Typically, you are allowed one bag (in addition to a normal sized purse or laptop) and all of your carry on luggage items should be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you, or in the overhead bin. There is a certain amount of tolerance for this, which comes and goes in waves. For periods of time, certain airlines might get very stringent about carry-on baggage and have sample baggage “sizers” at the gate.
If your carry on luggage articles don’t fit, they wont be allowed on board. This can be a real pain, as they will check it right at the gate, and you may not be prepared to have the articles as checked luggage (fragile etc). So, a word to the wise, take a normal sized bag, and that’s all. Only take with you what you really need until you receive your luggage.
