We had a fabulous trip!!! Playa Pesquero was wonderful! Everything we could possibly want and more. Here’s a breakdown of the highlights:
Food
We had absolutely no complaints about the food. It really is all about the choices you make. If you don’t like chick pea stew for breakfast, then skip it! lol Plenty of other food to choose from! Honestly, the breakfast buffets offered so many choices. Their fresh bread at every meal was to die for! Best I’ve ever had. So fresh. Literally melts in your mouth.
Okay, their butter, milk and ketchup taste different than ours. But we all liked the butter and the milk was good too (a little creamy – I don’t think they have 2%) but admittedly I stayed away from the ketchup. I just didn’t prefer it. Actually, right before we took off to Cuba we ate at the Casey’s restaurant at the airport. The server told us about the ketchup in Cuba so she stocked us up on ketchup packets! lol Very nice of her.
So many wonderful restaurants to choose from at Playa Pesquero. We made dinner reservations at 3 of them and we enjoyed every single one. We especially loved their Caribbean and Seafood restaurants. Their seafood soup and tomato soup was to die for! The only food complaint we had was at the Grill restaurant. My husband and sister-in-law ordered the roasted chicken and it was slightly under cooked. I ordered a grilled turkey breast and it was super yummy.
Lunches were equally awesome. All the restaurants were conveniently located either near the pool or the beach. We had no problem walking to them. Also, they had two food stations set-up in the pool area, one that served fish & chips and shrimp & chips, and one that served hot dogs. If you felt like having a snack between meals, it was right there! They also had cotton candy in the boulevard area. And the ice cream parlour of course! The kids loved it (and the adults too!)
Room
First of all, I just want to say thank you so much for requesting pool view for us. We were in Building 59 which was located right next to the pool and a short walk to the beach. In fact, I had a view of the beach from my balcony (a tiny one, but a view nonetheless). Also, we were right next door to my brother and his family, so another bonus!! Thank you so much for making sure the tour operators/hotel knew we were traveling together!!!
As far as the rooms are concerned, no, they are not the luxury you would expect to see at a Marriott or Hilton. They are simple rooms. But very spacious and very clean. The bathroom tub had a little rust around the edges, but no big deal. Sometimes in the late afternoon (around 5 or 6) the water pressure in the shower was low and the temperature wasn’t as hot. I suspect everyone was leaving the pool/beach to go back to their rooms to shower and get ready for dinner. But this didn’t happen all the time. And it really didn’t bother us.
Housekeeping did a great job keeping the room clean, making sure the fridge was stocked, and of course surprising us every day with their cute towel creations! Something we looked forward to everyday.
Beach
What can I say? Spectacular!!! The white sand, the turquoise water. Just beautiful. And so much to do. Kayaking, snorkeling, paddle boating, wind surfing, etc. Sometimes finding lounge chairs for all of us was a challenge (especially if you arrived at the beach later in the morning), but a beach attendant was always nearby and happy to bring us as many lounge chairs as we needed! Oh and did I mention the sunsets? Gorgeous!! They have a seafood restaurant and a pizza hut right on the beach. We literally had to walk 20 steps to go have lunch. So convenient.
Pool
The pool is amazing!!! It is huge! We stayed on the side where it is most shallow (and close to our room), mostly for the kiddies, but also because it was much quieter than the opposite end of the pool where the rowdy party people tend to be. The swim-up bar is located on the rowdier side and there was always music/dancing/contests going on but we preferred the peace and quiet on the shallow side. I highly recommend reserving lounge chairs early in the morning! We always lucked out with a nice shaded hut that accommodated all of us!
Lobby
The main building at the resort was a great place to hang out after dinner. They have a lobby bar, a coffee bar (amazing cappuccinos and lattes!), there’s a currency exchange counter, a theatre with nightly shows, and plenty of tables and couches to sit on and just have a drink and listen to the piano player or band.
Well, that covers the main points. By the way, the bus ride from the airport was 50 minutes, a bit of a jaunt, but a nice drive. A lot of people have asked me if I went outside the resort and I said No! No reason to. Everything we wanted and needed was right there in our resort. Yes, there are excursions available, but we didn’t feel like leaving the place. And other than money for tips and a few souvenirs, we hardly spent a dime there.
All in all it was a fabulous trip. Memories to last a lifetime for sure.
Thanks so much for recommending Playa Pesquero and taking care of our needs! I will definitely pass your name [Debbie Maguire] on to my friends!
Best Regards,
~Teresa, Barrie, ON
