Day #Description
1Arrive Guayaquil, Ecuador
Welcome to the magical islands of the Galapagos, an enchanting region filled with amazing wildlife and a wonderful climate. Your Collette vacation begins with a flight to Guayaquil, the economic capital of Ecuador.
2Guayaquil - San Cristobal Island - Board Ship
Your journey to the spectacular Galapagos begins by departing Ecuador and heading 600 miles off the western coast of South America. Comprised of thirteen major islands, five minor islands, and scores of smaller inlets and rocks, this unique archipelago covers an area of 8,960 square miles. Upon arrival in San Cristobal, you transfer to the MV Santa Cruz for a 7-night cruise. This first-class ship has 47 cabins with central air conditioning, private bathroom facilities, and a glass-bottom boat for underwater observations. Following lunch, visit the Interpretation Center at Puerto Baquerizo Moreno and enjoy a relaxing stroll in the town of Puerto Baquerizo. (B, L, D)
3Bartholome Island - James Island
At Bartholome Island, a hike to the summit is a great way to start the day. Return to the ship for breakfast and then enjoy a panga ride around colossal Pinnacle Rock. Snorkel with the Galapagos penguins before an afternoon walk to see land and marine birds and observe a fur-sea lion colony. (B, L, D)
4Darwin Bay - North Seymour Island
An early morning cruise brings you into Darwin Bay where you disembark for an easy stroll while observing hundreds of birds including: great frigate birds, red footed and Nazca (masked) boobies, gulls, herons, finches and more. Snorkel at this beautiful natural harbor, or for those who are more adventurous, snorkel along the cliffs, looking for hammerhead sharks. An afternoon walk along the coast of North Seymour Island allows you time to discover and observe many bird colonies. (B, L, D)
5Santa Cruz Island
Experience the Charles Darwin Research Station and see giant tortoise pens, an impressive prickly-pear cactus forest and many land birds. Santa Cruz Island alone has 8 species of Darwin's finches! (B, L, D)
6Isabela Island - Fernandina Island
Cruise into Bolivar Channel where the cool waters give the Galapagos a less than tropical landscape. This environmental change is acknowledged by the possibility of seeing dolphins and whales. At Tagus Cove, a protected natural harbor, an uphill walk takes you to Darwin's salt water crater lake for a superb view. This afternoon brings you to the youngest island, Fernandina, where you can observe penguins as well as flightless cormorants. (B, L, D)
7Isabela Island - Urbina Bay
This morning, enjoy a walk to Urbina Bay to look for giant tortoises and land iguanas. Following a volcanic event in 1954, this area was left with gaunt marine skeletons, making this walk remarkably interesting. The afternoon brings you to Punta Moreno to observe unique lava flows and small lagoons with bird life. (B, L, D)
8Hood Island - Gardner Bay
Walk along Gardner Bay, the cleanest white coral beach you can imagine, and witness sea lions, mockingbirds and finches. Stroll on lava terrain to visit its unique sea bird colonies, including waved Albatrosses (April-December) and the famous blowhole. This evening, join your fellow travelers for a Captain's farewell dinner. (B, L, D)
9Disembark Ship - San Cristobal Island - Guayaquil
Disembarking your ship at San Cristobal Island, you follow the same route as Charles Darwin to Kicker Rock, a small inlet whose cliffs are home to many sea birds. Board your flight for the mainland and the city of Guayaquil. The remainder of the afternoon is at leisure. (B, D)
10Guayaquil - Depart for Home
You depart for home with wonderful memories of these ^enchanted islands.^ (B)
