Lima sightseeing Our morning sightseeing tour explores the old and new parts of the city. The Plaza de Armas with the beautiful buildings of the Government Palace, the Town Hall, the Palace of the archbishop and the Cathedral are still the most important places in town. | 3 | Lima – Cuzco – Urubamba Valley Today we transfer to the airport for our flight to Cuzco. On arrival we begin a full day excursion to the Pisac Indian Market and Ollantaytambo. | 4 | Urubamba Valley – Machu Picchu Today after breakfast, we start a 2-day fabulous highlight journey to the Inca city of Machu Picchu. We board our train in Ollantaytambo for our journey to the small village Aguas Calientes. On arrival our small coaches take us up the steep roads to the ruins of the city, that for centuries remain undiscovered by the Spaniards, only to be found by accident in 1911 by Hirma Bingham. The beauty of its location and the genius that went into its construction make this Inca settlement truly one of the great wonders of the world. After a full day visit of the site we return by bus to the village of Aguas Calientes to our hotel for the night. (BB D)
Machu Picchu – Cuzco (2) Enjoy the ruins early in the morning, with an opportunity to visit Machu Picchu again, when no one's around. In the afternoon, we board our train and return to Cuzco. Upon arrival at the train station around 7.00pm, we transfer to our hotel. (BB)
Cuzco sightseeing After breakfast, we enjoy a sightseeing tour starting in the centre of the Inca empire, the Plaza de Armas, with its Cathedral built on the ruins of the Inca Palace. Our next stop is the Old Town with its restored colonial buildings, before we visit Sacsayhuaman, a ruin located on a hillside overlooking Cuzco, time to enjoy fabulous views of the city. Then on to the Inca baths of Tambomachay, Kenko the giant rock carved in a strange way, and the ancient site of Puca Pucara. This evening, we enjoy a dinner of local specialties at the Restaurant Tunupa. (BB) (HD)
Cuzco – Juliaca – Puno (2) This morning after an early breakfast, we board the 'Andes Train' for our journey which takes us across the Altiplano, past lamas, alpacas, and through desertlike landscapes. We ascend through snow-covered mountain tops as our train reaches the Aguas Calientes station with its hot springs and continues to the highest station of our Andes journey, La Raya. During our journey lunch will be on the train. Then on to Juliaca to board our bus which takes us to Puno on the shores of the Lake Titicaca. After a late arrival and check-in dinner will be at our hotel. (BB L D)

There are 40 small floating islands, where the Uros, descendents of one of the most ancient people in the Americas, continue to live a very simple way of life as their ancestors did. Next, we stop to visit the archeological ruins of Chullpas de Sillustani. The necropolis, which is one of the largest in the Americas, and one of the most impressive in the world, lies on a peninsula, bordered by the beautiful lake of Umayo. The Chullpas or Aya Wasis founds are gigantic funerary monuments built by the Kollas. These quadrangular 12 meter high circular structures challenge the laws of equilibrium as they are narrower at the base than the top! Later we return to Puno and our hotel for dinner and overnight. (BB) |
