Nassau Vacations

Nassau, the capital city and commercial centre of Bahamas, is located on the island of New Providence. Nassau vacations give tourists an opportunity to explore rich colonial history and pirate history, in a sense, as bankers and financiers maintain Nassau as a shelter. Nassau vacations appeal to a variety of travellers, including singles, couples, and families. Those who enjoy casino action, golfing, a quick getaway, and top quality sun and sand will definitely appreciate a Nassau holiday. If nightlife is a priority, casinos and nightclubs located at major resort hotels will certainly provide adequate entertainment. Nassau vacations also offer visitors plenty of opportunities to do some serious shopping, with upscale stores available on Bay Street, an interesting straw market, duty free shopping, and local crafts and conch shells for sale. Good shopping opportunities are also offered at the cruise ship port. For the sporting adventurer, deep sea fishing, parasailing, water skiing, and cricket, are available, to name a few. For those wishing to explore the wonders beneath the clear Caribbean waters, Nassau offers good snorkelling and scuba. Golfing is also available to suit a variety of skill levels.

Getting Around: Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), the main point of access to the Bahamas, is located just 16 km outside of Nassau. Transportation options include taxis, bus, scooters, and horse and buggy – it is easy to get around. In the British tradition, driving is on the left side of roadways, and city congestion may inspire tourists to consider exploring on foot. For those interested in visiting Paradise Island, boat transportation is available or guests may travel by car along the bridge.

Where to Stay: The Atlantis is outstanding and truly unique for the Caribbean. Otherwise, Nassau offers a variety of hotels, including a mix of high and low-rise like Breezes Bahamas and Wyndham Nassau. Hotels may be all-inclusive, have breakfast plans, or include no meals, providing great choice for those who visit.

Weather: Average temperatures during prime seasons range from 21C and 27C, with summer high temperatures climbing to 32C. Winter low temperatures rarely dip below 15C at night.

Attractions: All-inclusive Nassau vacations provide a great variety of points of interest, including historical, natural, and modern attractions. The Atlantis, a Las Vegas style hotel, is a wonderful modern attraction that most visitors to Nassau admire. Be sure to take a tour of Fort Charlotte, an outstanding historical fort designed to protect Nassau from invaders, built in 1789 by Lord Dunmore. A 40 minute boat ride to Blue Lagoon is also recommended for the pop culture buff, to see where the television show, Gilligan's Island was made. Not to be overshadowed, the Nassau vacation beaches, including Cable Beach, are outstanding.

Nassau is a bustling little town that is well worth exploring. What are you waiting for? Book today!

RIU Palace Paradise Island: Great Value

We decided to return to Bahamas for our one year anniversary trip. We decided somewhat last miinute and saw a deal for The Riu Paradise Island. The price was right and it was an upgrade to the "Supreme Ocean View Suite". The only negative thing i will say is that this was far from a suite, it was a regular room like everyone elses! The room size was fine, we unfortuantely didnt get one of the newly updated rooms, but it was still nice. The view was mostly of the resort and the ocean on the side. After talking to other couples and familes, it sounded like they were all upgraded to suites at the front of the building. One couple was also on their one year anniversary and showed up on the same day as us but a couple of hours after we did and they were automatically upgraded to a much larger and nicer room. We told the front desk and the people doing the welcome that it was our anniversary upon our arrival, but there was no recognition of this. However, i was in no mood to complain this was a relaxing trip and i didn't want any worries! Overall, the resort was extremely clean and nicely done. Everytime i would go into the washrooms they were always being cleaned, as well as the pool deck and restaurants. The selection of food was amazing! I was very surprised! Every lunch buffet had something different each day and the dinner buffet was very good. One night they even had a ton of sushi rolls prepared, and they were great! The A La Cart restaurants were very good as well. My favourite was either Alexander or Japanese. The only downfall to eating at the a la cart was that there were only two seating times, 6:30 PM or 8:30 PM and they were all three course meals, but you had to wait for everyone else to finish each course before you got your next plate. There was one night that we left early and skipped on the dessert because we didnt want to wait any more. The pool was a great spot for me, i loved the built in lounge chairs that are seated in the water! The beach was clean and the ocean was beautiful. It is a public beach so it did seam a little crowded at times, and there are a lot of people trying to sell you things like coconut drinks and jet skis. Great selection of drinks, bartenders were friendly and fast. They had a lot of blended drinks that were amazing, like the frozen mojito. I didnt go on any excursions or visit the spa on site. However, this resort is so close to Atlantis we visited there a couple of times. And it is a short walk into town or you can take the water ferry. So there is a lot to do. Overall, for a last minute vacation i was impressed and we both felt that we got good value for our money. I would recommend this resort or another RIU resort.
