St Lucia

Twin volcanic peaks called The Pitons rise up over two thousand feet of tropical beauty. St. Lucia is unquestionably one of the prettiest of the Caribbean islands. For those who appreciate natural beauty and geographic wonder, this vacation spot blends perfectly with the usual sunshine and beaches of a Caribbean holiday. This volcanic island has pristine rainforests with stunning waterfalls, and beautiful plantation valleys dotted with orchids, hibiscus, and bougainvillea. Beaches in St. Lucia are somewhat narrow, but the golden sand is soft and the surf calm, depending on the hotel in question. Some hotels are situated on black volcanic sand. The roads are narrow and winding throughout the mountain terrain, making travel from the bottom near the main airport (Vieux Port), to the top near Castries a good hour and a half drive. Soufriere is home to the world’s only “drive-in” dormant volcano, and Sulphur Springs gives visitors the impression that they are in a bleak moonscape rather than a tropical island. Most hotels offered are located in closer proximity to Castries, a pretty and colourful port for cruiseships, featuring many boutiques and duty free shops at nearby Pointe Seraphine. A variety of international cuisine is available in restaurants in Castries, in addition to good dining in hotels. Outside town, Marigot Bay and Rodney Bay offer marinas with crewed and bareboat yachts for charter for an exciting day of sailing in this picture-perfect destination. The gentle people of St. Lucia have a storied history of being occupied by the English and French off and on throughout the colonial period. The location of hotels outside Castries leaves most visitors dining at their hotel, other than the odd night out. There is a good selection of International restaurants to choose from. Nightlife is low key, other than the weekly “Jump Up” street party on Friday nights at Gros Inlet.

As a premium priced holiday, St. Lucia offers a unique blend of quiet natural beauty coupled with modern infrastructure, that few other destinations can match. Depending upon the hotel, we are comfortable recommending St. Lucia to even the most discriminating traveller.
