Our 2014 Bucket List

Last Updated on June 22, 2020 by Iris Sinilong

We’ve been thinking a lot about travel… (no kidding). With each new place we write about, we add another item to our list, just waiting to be discovered. Here are some of the destinations we dream of visiting one day:

Venice – Amanda’s Pick

Venice is magical. Celebrated for its art and architecture, Venice made its mark during the Renaissance period. It’s known for its classical music, fashion, cuisine, and festivals. I would admire the crafty glass work, taste delicious seafood, enjoy an espresso, explore art galleries and get inspired. I would walk Venice’s narrow streets and take a boat ride on the Grand Canal. The canals and bridges create a breathtaking landscape. Then I’d head to St. Mark’s square and visit the gothic palaces. This medieval city is simply beautiful.

Bali – Iris’s Pick

Bali is fascinating. It’s picturesque quality evokes feelings of peace, hope and joy. I would definitely give anything to experience its beauty in person. The places I would want to see in Bali include Ubud, which was featured in Eat, Pray, Love; Sumbuwa, which is home to renowned surfing spots; Kuta Beach, so I can socialize and party with the Balinese; and the Tanah Lot, which is popularly known for its stunning sunset displays.

Victoria – Amanda’s Pick

Victoria, Australia has an unspoiled combination of natural beauty and modern musings. It boasts gorgeous scenery, extraordinary wildlife, and urban charms. Melbourne’s stylish restaurants, cafes, boutiques and lively promenades make it the perfect cultural center.  The food and wine region of Yarra Valley is known for their vineyards and picturesque forests. On Phillip Island you can view penguins, koalas, and seal colonies while Great Ocean Road features beautiful beaches, waterfalls, lush rainforests, and wandering kangaroos. You will find more beaches in Mornington Peninsula, and a notable strip full of stunning mansions.

Prague – Iris’s Pick

The thought of Prague can be rather overwhelming, but in a really good way. It has so much history and culture just waiting to be unraveled. From the Astronomical Clock, which is a marvel of medieval craftsmanship; to the Lennon Wall, a paramount symbol for young political activists highlighting graffiti, images, and lyrics; and to the Vysehrad Complex which contains a fortress castle, cathedral, and burial ground of the most influential figures in Czech history. It just sounds like a perfect spot for day dreamers around the world.

Monte Carlo – Amanda’s Pick

Thinking of Monte Carlo in Monaco brings the word luxury to mind. Situated on an escarpment along the French Riviera, Monte Carlo embodies a type of French flair. Governed by a constitutional monarchy, it’s filled with the history of the Grimaldi family. The destination is known for the famous Monte Carlo casino, well-known museums and restaurants, and is host to many sports including the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, poker, boxing, and tennis tournaments. I would tour the charming Grimaldi palace, enjoy a coffee in the lovely gardens, lounge along the beach, and watch an opera and admire the architecture at Opera de Monte Carlo.

 Alaska – Iris’s Pick

Everything about Alaska seems to rhyme with the word adventure. This northern state bustles with endless opportunities for fun and exploration. Whether you want to discover the wonders of the wilderness, witness the beautiful aurora lights, or go on a pulsating dog sled ride, Alaska promises to be an experience you will always remember. I just don’t think you can ever go wrong with Alaska. And I reckon that Anchorage may be a great place to start!
