Can you feel the romance in the air? OK, I know it’s super cold out there right now (at least it is here in Ontario!), but that’s all the more reason to warm things up with some Valentine’s Day romance. We asked our travel agents which cities they think are the most romantic (excluding the obvious, Paris) in the world… and here’s what they told us:
Venice, Italy
Follow in the footsteps of Casanova, one of the most famous lovers of all time. Explore the beautiful romance of Venice as you sip wine and watch the sun set on St. Mark’s square. Enjoy the view from the Campanile bell tower, or settle into the golden balconies of the restored opera house to enjoy show. And, of course, when the weather warms up a little, take an intimate gondola ride for two.
Honolulu, Hawaii
With its warm sun and salty ocean air, Honolulu sparks the passion within vacationers and locals alike. With its friendly people and sunny beaches, Honolulu is a popular choice for destination weddings and honeymoons. There are many sunset dinner cruises to enjoy, as well as some truly magnificent luau shows. Imagine resting under the coconut palms and gazing out at the secluded beaches. Ahh, a tropical paradise.
Rome, Italy
Set the mood with a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of Centro Storico. Visit Tivoli’s Villa D’ Este for a stroll through the sensual gardens where you’ll hear the soothing sounds of the many water fountains. Some couples enjoy a romantic serenaded dinner cruise along the Tiber, while others prefer a rooftop garden restaurant overlooking the Spanish Steps, offering an endless view of the Eternal City.
London, England
Some say that London is the new capital of romance. Would you agree? Is it the misty waters of the River Thames? Perhaps it’s the many hillside parks, beckoning for blankets and picnic baskets. With so many lakes, rivers and bridges, London does offer a great deal of romantic options for the outdoorsy type.
Bora Bora
Whether you’re planning a destination wedding or a getaway to rekindle the romance, there’s no better place than Bora Bora. Filled with lots of romantic hotels, the service you’ll find here is truly special. Enjoy spa treatments and massages on your very own private beach and wade in the soothing turquoise blue waters. It’s all about relaxation and romance in Bora Bora.
Santorini, Greece
From volcanoes to hot springs, Santorini is a must see for singles looking for love and couples who’ve already found it. You’ll find plenty of boutique hotels in Greece, which offer the perfect setting for a quaint, romantic getaway. Santorini is considered to be one of the most romantic of the 56 Greek islands (known as the Cyclades), and has actually become known as the Honeymoon Island because of its spectacular sunsets, dome-topped churches and white-washed villages.
Barcelona, Spain
You don’t have to be a Latin lover to enjoy the passion of Barcelona. See the stunning artworks, murals and facades throughout the city. Discover the spectacular architecture dating back to the 3rd century BC. Take a peaceful stroll along the beach at sunset and experience the ultimate panoramic view of the city from the Tibidabo Mountains.
