8 things you might not know about Couples Resorts Jamaica

Last Updated on June 22, 2020 by Laura Cooper

The Couples resorts offer unparalleled romance along the beaches of Jamaica. Wake up along the white sand shores and palm-fringed Seven Mile Beach in Negril or along the private hotel beaches in Ocho Rios. The Couples philosophy boasts no kids, and no distractions meaning you can best relax and enjoy the laid back atmosphere that Jamaica offers with its no problem attitude and One Love ideology. In addition to the beautiful ocean view suites, gourmet dining, and Red Stripe beer ready for two, we have 8 things you might not know about Couples Resorts:

1. You can experience the Jamaican mountains and shoreline all at once

Couples Resorts Jamaica are nestled along the shores and in the mountains

Couples Sans Souci

Visit Couples Sans Souci, tucked into the mountainside along the Ocho Rios coastline to experience the best of both worlds: crystal clear waters and the lush vegetation and mountainside that stretches across most of the island. Here, find hidden grottos, winding walkways, staircases between villas, and secluded spa cabanas overlooking the turquoise and emerald waters below. This resort is for the traveller looking for a truly quiet, relaxing Jamaica vacation: with only 150 guestrooms, find villas and look-outs nestled along pathways between the palms and vegetation that make this resort the private paradise that it is. Soak in a mineral pool at the base of a waterfall and enjoy three beaches here, including an au naturel beach, to get the full feel of relaxation and freedom in Ocho Rios.

2. You can visit a private au naturel island at Couples Tower Isle

You heard that right! Visit the island (you guessed it – with a tower) in the bay across from the resort for an au naturel experience with your sweetheart. Complete with a pool, bar, and beach chairs scattered across the island (note: there is no beach here, simply reclining chairs along the cement-poured to make the island accessible amid the rocky shores), enjoy some private time here on the stretches of island that reach out into the ocean blue. The au naturel island at Couples Tower Isle is considered social, with organized pool games in addition to the relaxing time people are looking for.

Not interested in baring it all? Visit the island between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. with comfort: you won’t be required to be au naturel and will be allowed to visit with camera in tow for shots of the resort from a different angle.

3. You don’t have to worry about tipping – it’s actually not allowed

Couples Resorts Jamaica wants you, the guest, to enjoy the all-inclusive vacation experience with no worries. Don’t worry about having Jamaican dollars or USD on hand – tipping isn’t actually allowed at Couples resorts. The resorts run on a profit-sharing plan, to ensure that all employees are paid fairly and evenly: you might see the bartenders, servers, and maids, but there are plenty of other roles and employees working behind the scenes to ensure that your vacation is what you’ve dreamed it to be: paradise. Your room fee also includes a gratuity for all staff members, so tipping is already taken care of. The best “tip” you can give a staff member is a positive review on the customer service questionnaire you’ll see upon check-out: staff are rewarded based on these comments.

It should also be noted that the Couples resorts are on a cashless system: make sure you have a credit card before purchasing anything in the gift shops.

4. You can visit another Couples resort if you’re a past visitor

Trading Places, Couples-style. Past visitors who are part of the Romance Rewards program can try something new at another Couples Jamaica property: swap between Couples Negril and Couples Swept Away or between Couples Tower Isle and Couples Sans Souci on the northern coast via complimentary shuttle.  With trading places available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, this is a great chance to get to know another property, or re-visit an old favourite during your Negril vacation or Ocho Rios vacation.

Other Romance Rewards levels (which range from First Love to Passionate Love), might include resort credits, an included bottle of wine, departure gifts, and massages. Romance Rewards levels are based on number of nights stayed at the Couples Resorts, from 0-5 nights to 24+ nights.

5. You can help support Jamaican school children through the Issa Trust Foundation

Children at the Free Hill Primary and Infant School

The Couples Resorts Jamaica brand established the Issa Trust Foundation as a non-profit organization in 2005. The foundation supports schools in Negril and the Free Hill Primary & Infant School in Free Hill, St. Ann, approximately 30 minutes outside of Ocho Rios. Offering maintenance, school supplies, art supplies, and monetary donations to the school, the resorts (and visitors to the resorts) are able to have a part in promoting education to young Jamaicans. Couples Tower Isle organizes excursions on Fridays to the Free Hill Primary & Infant School with the $65US fee being donated to the school. Donations of school supplies can also be left at any of the four Couples Jamaica resorts to be delivered to the schools.

6. You can dine on the beach by candlelight for ultimate romance

Couples Resorts Jamaica offer romantic offerings like weddings and candelit dinners

Let the Romance Concierge take care of all your special needs at Couples Tower Isle, like onsite wedding ceremonies, honeymoon requests, or a simple romantic candlelit dinner on the beach or the island. This romantic atmosphere, where you’ll feel the warm sand between your toes and the gentle breezes off the ocean, is available for an added fee of $170US for beach dining and $240US per couple for island dining. Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary or just looking to enjoy time with your partner, enjoy Couples private label wine, a three course meal of Caribbean flavours, and the unforgettable service Tower Isle provides.

7. You can visit if you have a same-sex partner

Couples Resorts do accept same-sex couples at the resort, but marriages of same-sex couples are not allowed due to Jamaica’s laws. Singles are not accepted at Couples Resorts, as they are built for romantic settings and one-on-one experiences. While Jamaica is not accepting of same-sex couples, the Couples’ policy is to encourage “all couples in love” to enjoy their romantic vacation away.

8. You can stick to your fitness routine at Couples Resorts Jamaica

Couples Resorts Jamaica offer a large fitness section at Couples Swept Away

A stay at Couples Swept Away is perfect for the fitness guru not wanting to give up their fitness routine. With 10-acres of sports complex across the street from the accommodations which stretch across 17-acres of white sand beaches, there is something for everyone here. Resident tennis professionals offer on-site classes throughout the week, with a 25-minute session included in your Jamaica vacation price. Enjoy the lap pool, open-air gym, air conditioned aerobics studio, quarter-mile jogging track, and a spa on this side of the facility. Visitors to any of the Couples resorts can burn off the pina coladas by taking part in the water sports offered on site, ranging from glass-bottom boat tours, scuba diving, snorkeling, aquasize, paddle boards, and more. What better way to enjoy the aquamarine waters that line Jamaica!?

Not enough to convince you that Couples Resorts are the perfect spot to enjoy your next Jamaica vacation? Test out one of the four resorts for yourself. You might just find your one love.

  1. We were married at Couples San Souci on the 19th Sept. 2012 and are returning 14-22 Sept.2018 to re-new our wedding vows. Would we qualify as “repeat” guests because we both would like a day visit to Tower Isle?

    • Hi Patrick and Lisa: if you call to talk to one of our travel agents, they’ll be able to help you with this. You can find more information about Couple’s Romance Rewards repeat client program here: https://couples.com/romance-rewards
