Everything You Need to Know About Montego Bay

Welcome to Jamaica’s Montego Bay. It’s the second largest city in Jamaica and one of the most popular Jamaican tourist destinations. Whether you’re arriving by cruise ship or by plane, this is one place you won’t forget. MoBay, as it’s also known, is for those seeking sunny days, natural beauty, and a bit of adventure. There are opportunities for family outings, romantic voyages, and a fun-filled time with friends. Gloucester Avenue’s “Hip Strip” features trendy restaurants, art galleries, shops, and nightlife. Take a stroll to experience the local culture, duty-free shopping, and authentic cuisine. Bargain at the craft markets and admire paintings, pottery, and jewellery. Maybe pick up some spices and rum for yourself from a local vendor.

With popular golf courses, lively music festivals, and historic attractions, there is so much to do and see during your vacation. And then there are the beaches. The white sand shores and clear waters are heavenly. Enjoy reggae beats and savour jerk chicken on the more lively beaches, or opt for the peaceful areas where it’s just you and the calm of the water. There’s a youthful spirit about Jamaica- and you’re invited to be part of it.

Montego Bay

City Basics
From the Airport: If you’re heading to Montego Bay, Sangster International Airport is where you’ll land. Taxis, hotel shuttles, and car rentals are available. Board your tour operator’s airport transfer bus and you’ll be taken to your resort.

Getting Around: If you want to explore areas off of the resort (and we suggest you do), you can make arrangements with your travel agent from home or book excursions in your hotel lobby. You may also take a taxi to different destinations. If you rent a car, remember to drive on the left side.

Attractions

Doctor's Cave Beach

Doctor’s Cave Beach
This beach is believed to have healing powers from mineral springs. Located between the Marine Park and the Hip Strip, the golden sand stretch and calm, crystal-clear waters are famous. While no music or vendors are allowed to preserve the serenity, the beach can get busy with local families, cruise ship passengers, and resort guests.

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville
On Montego Bay’s “Hip Strip” is Margaritaville, the place for delicious food and of course, margaritas. A star favourite, you’ll find loads of fun here, including a waterslide winding from the rooftop and a giant trampoline.

Rose Hall Great House
Explore the 1760 plantation house that belonged to the “White Witch” Annee Palmer who was notorious for her cruelty. Whether you take a tour during the day or at night, you might have the misfortune of running into her ghost.

Montego Bay Marine Park
A snorkeler’s paradise, Montego Bay Marine Park is 15.3 square kilometers. Discover varieties of fish and coral reefs on your own at one of the public beaches or take an undersea tour on a semi-submarine or glass bottom boat excursion.

That’s not all! There are so many things to do! White water raft, explore animal sanctuaries, visit a working plantation to view coffee, pineapples, plantains, and other crops, or go horseback riding. You may also take a day trip to see the Bob Marley Museum and Dunn’s River Falls.
