From the Airport: The Madrid-Barajas Airport is the city’s main international airport. You may access the underground system from the airport to reach the downtown area. The metro line 8 runs to the Nuevos Ministerios station in central Madrid and takes about 15 minutes. You may also take a half-hour taxi ride into downtown Madrid. An additional €5.50 is applied to fares to and from the airport. Look for the official Madrid taxis with a white base and red stripe.
Getting Around: If you would like to rent a car for the duration of your trip, the airport has a variety of car rental companies on site. Otherwise, the metro is a great method, or there are buses and trains that run throughout the city.

The Golden Triangle of Art
Madrid is home to three art galleries, boasting great works in both number and reputation. The three distinct museums each have their own sensibility. The Museo Nacional del Prado houses classic works of Spanish art history such as those by Velazquez and Goya. In the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia you will find works by Picasso and Salvador Dali, but also cinema and photography. In the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza are private collections of avant-garde art, and pieces by Monet, Van Gogh, and Cezanne.
