Babymoon? I’ll take it!

Babymoon? I’ll take it!

Baby is on the way and parents need some pre-chaos R&R…that’s where the babymoon comes in.  A babymoon is the vacation before the baby is born, making its way into Urban Dictionary and trendy magazines, claiming to be the perfect solution to pre-natal stress.

Similar to the weddingmoon — where brides escape the pressure and leave planning to persistent mother-in-laws and bridesmaids — a babymoon offers a retreat away from home. Babymoons are growing in popularity as a last hurrah before the promise of sleepless nights and diaper changes.

These vacations for mother-to-be and their partner are meant to focus on the relationship before another member joins the family. Some might opt for an adult-only resort, as a guarantee of peace and quiet before the storm. And luckily, you won’t have to lug the baby gear on this trip!

But is it for you? Maybe you’re optimistic about busy family vacations or weary about travelling while pregnant. But for most, this sounds like the perfect way to spend part of a pregnancy: Think pre-natal massages, loads of food to satisfy cravings, baby-bump beach photo shoots, romantic alone time, and sunbathing with a (virgin) strawberry daiquiri.

Travelling during the second trimester is common and generally considered safest. Choose shorter flights and pack proper medicine and snacks. After a babymoon at one of these resorts, you’ll be ready to take on your bundle of joy…and ready for your next (in the distant future) vacation.

Caribbean & Mexico: Pamper yourself with a luxurious tropical vacation full of rest, relaxation and sunshine. The 5-star Jewel Dunn’s River Resort in Ocho Rios caters to adults-only, complete with everything an expecting mother could ask for: pristine beaches, spacious and elegant accommodations, and an all-inclusive meal plan. There’s excellent dining, a good spa, and two swimming pools. Craving authentic Mexican food? Secrets Vallarta Bay is a 5-star, adult-only resort in Puerto Vallarta. This upscale, all-suite hotel features shops, a great spa, café, wide beach, and excellent dining.

Florida: For sun and serenity a little closer to home, Florida has some great options, especially in Miami, known for its amazing beaches and active atmosphere. In the quieter Fort Lauderdale, Harbour Beach Marriot is a 4.5 star hotel situated on 16 waterfront acres. Close to many shopping, dining, and entertainment venues, there is much to be enjoyed in the local area. Relax in the pool or whirlpool or treat yourself to a relaxing massage at the 22,000 square foot spa.

City Stay: Quick getaways to cities like Boston, Chicago and Myrtle Beach are great ways to get some sightseeing in. In New York City, enjoy a short stay and experience the magic this metropolis has to offer. Stroll through the streets with your baby belly, shop for new clothes for the two of you, indulge in sweet treats, and watch exciting shows on Broadway. Spend some quality time with your loved one at the 4-star Westin Times Square located in the heart of the action or the 5-star Ritz Carlton Central Park where the scenery is stunning.
