It’s a Festivus for the rest of us! If you don’t know that line from Seinfeld, I recommend watching the entire 10 seasons to get up to speed on Sein-language.
Anywho, last week’s rerun got me thinking about all the silly festivals that are happening all around the world this summer, and I wanted to share some of my faves:
The Silly Olympics in Camp Bestival returns in 2012 from July 26th to 29th at the scenic Lulworth Castle, set amidst England’s dramatic Jurassic coastline in Dorset. Book a cheap flight to England and support the 2012 Silly Olympics!
Seussical The Musical: In our very own backyard of Guelph, Ontario. Granted it’s not really in the category of “summer festivals” but it’s a Dr. Seuss Musical and who doesn’t love all the little Whos down in Whoville, with little Cindy Lou Who, who was no more than two?!
La Tomatina is held on the last Wednesday of August every year in Bunol, which is near Valencia, Spain. Thousands of tomato tossers come from all four corners of the world to participate in this ‘World’s Biggest Food Fight,’ where more than 100 metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets.
The 15th annual International Pickle Festival takes place this November 18th in Rosendale, New York. Bring your appetite, bring your pickles!
Don’t miss the Garlic Festival in Gilroy July 27th to 29th. A small village in California coveted the title of Garlic Capital of the World. And so the Garlic festival was born. Be sure to catch the “Garlic Festival Queen Pageant” – and bring some TicTacs!
The World Beard & Mustache Championships are back this year in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 11th. Veteran’s Day got bumped to the 12th!
Do you know of any silly summer festivals you’d like our travellers to check out? Tell us all about them!
