It’s the company that makes your vacation great. Whether you’re at a star-studded cocktail party or a simple picnic with friends, anywhere is somewhere when you have pals by your side.
As a spirited socialite, a successful travel experience is marked by celebration. You thrive on energy. You love lively cosmopolitan cities where the night never ends, the shopping is bountiful, and it isn’t hard to find a party. When you’re at home, you’re constantly planning gatherings or seeking a dinner date. When you’re on vacation, there is most certainly never a dull moment. You enjoy good conversation, lots to keep you occupied, a vibrant nightlife, classy hot-spots, and maybe some unique characters to make for amusing memories. From Miami to Dubai, there are countless places for you visit. Experience concerts, casinos, and clubs to make the most of your vacation. To start off your checklist, here are some bustling cities to consider.
WHERE TO GO
An obvious choice, Las Vegas had to make the list. The Strip is the heart of Sin City. Its never-ending casinos, world-class shopping, superlative dining, and luxurious hotels scream opulence- loud enough for everyone to hear. Don’t expect to get any sleep here, active doesn’t even begin to describe the nightlife scene. Enjoy circus acts, comedy shows, musical performances, visit casinos, nightclubs, and lounges, or simply take a walk down Las Vegas Blvd. You don’t need an excuse to indulge in your every whim. Whether you want to spend all day at the pool or spa, gamble all night, strike up a conversation with Elvis, take a roller coaster ride, or spend an afternoon in Paris or New York, you can do it all.
What to watch out for in 2014: For thrill seekers enticed by ziplining, SlotZilla is set to open early this year in the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. Cowabunga Bay, a 23-acre water park, is opening in the summertime in Henderson, Nevada. Back on the Las Vegas strip, the 550-foot tall High Roller Observation Wheel is slated to open in the Linq district in the spring. Las Vegas will also have new celebrity chefs taking over the restaurant scene. Chef Morimoto (Iron Chef), Guy Fieri (Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives) and Giada De Laurentiis will open restaurants in The Mirage, The Quad, and The Gansevoort hotels respectively.
Cancun has always been the party destination of Mexico – and is a spring break favourite. If you’re in search of some sunshine, tropical drinks, and good times, this is the place to be. Beautiful beaches, famous golf courses, and archeological sites define Cancun. With so many resorts to choose from, there is something for everyone – whether you’d like to enjoy water sports at the beach, mingle poolside, or dance the night away at the disco. And, you could fit a bit of relaxation in there too! Venture off the resort to visit downtown markets and experience bartering for unique treasures, blaring music, and outdoor restaurants. At night, visit local bars and nightclubs and enjoy jazz or dance music venues. Nearby, Playa del Carmen features restaurants, shops, and entertainment on the pedestrian-clad Fifth Avenue.
What to watch out for in 2014: The Hard Rock Hotel Cancun, known for its trendy, rock ‘n roll vibe, is famous for its deluxe accommodations and star-studded guests. This year, take a trip to see their live concerts.
New York City
Glamorous, eventful, multicultural, and chaotically brilliant, New York City is a must-see for socialites. There’s a reason why Blair Waldorf and Carrie Bradshaw were queens of the social world. In NYC, the possibilities are endless. The shopping is bountiful, the restaurants are delectable, and the busy streets are inspiring. Daytime and nighttime entertainment is ample, and there are so many meeting places to choose from. Strike up a conversation with a street artist as you soak up the energy in Times Square. Enjoy a matinee on Broadway Avenue, go for a run through Central Park, peruse the shops in SoHo, or go for dinner with friends in Little Italy or China Town. At night, wine bars, famous nightclubs, comedy shows, and more await you.
What to watch out for in 2014: Times Square is event-central. Prior to this year’s Superbowl in New Jersey, Times Square will host Super Bowl Boulevard, featuring live concerts, tobogganing, and autograph sessions. Then on Valentine’s Day, visit the square to renew vows, take photos, and earn discounts on hotels and attractions. June 3 is the Taste of Times Square food and music festival. And of course, the notorious New Year’s Eve celebrations continue its tradition almost a year away.
This German capital has one of the best music scenes in Europe, and one of the most vibrant nightlife scenes. You can party any night of the week, all night long- literally. From romantic lounges to punk venues to simple hang-out spots, Berlin has it all. Its party atmosphere is laid-back and casual, not overly swanky. Pub crawls are popular – but the best spots are hidden so ask a local. Every type of music can be appreciated here. Dance halls range from salsa to disco to rock and roll to electro themes. Popular cabarets feature song and dance shows, acrobatics, and artistes. Berlin is also a great place for shopping. You’ll find interesting boutiques, markets, and souvenir shops.
What to watch out for in 2014: Karneval der Kulturen or Carnival of Cultures, takes place from June 6-9. The animated three-day street festival celebrates music, dance, art and culture with parades and performances. November 9 also marks the 25 anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. A series of events, tours, and exhibitions will take place around that time, including a light installation with illuminated white balloons running along the length of the wall.
If you love to dance, you have to visit Argentina to enjoy salsa, jazz, and tango music. Take tango lessons yourself or watch people practicing in San Telmo’s Plaza Dorrego. Fall in love with designer boutiques, posh neighbourhoods, and the hyperactive nightlife. Old-fashioned cafes, classic pubs, and trendy bars offer you many options for a nice night out with friends. In Buenos Aires, the shopping is fantastic. Head to Palermo Viego for elegant boutiques, Recoleta for designer flagship stores, and San Telmo for vintage shops.
What to watch out for in 2014: Passion floods the streets of Buenos Aires during the Buenos Aires Tango Festival which begins on August 14. Various venues throughout the city hosts performances and workshops and the famous Tango World Cup takes place.
