Toronto International Film Festival 2013: Insider Scoop

Toronto International Film Festival 2013: Insider Scoop

Last Updated on June 22, 2020 by Amanda Stancati

Next week marks the start of the Toronto International Film Festival, a time when new films are screened to cast members and the eager public.  It is also a week of fun and parties, red carpets and glamour, when A-listers and their fans flock to Toronto. While it may be difficult to get a glimpse of the stars among the crowds and excitement in an already bustling city, hotels are usually a great place for celeb-spotting, since they’re filled with special guests and host interviews and social gatherings.  We’ve spoken to hotel insiders to learn more- and to compile a list of hotels you should (inconspicuously) frequent.  Go for your morning walk in the area or grab a cocktail at the hotel lounge.  You can thank us later.

The SoHo Metropolitan Hotel
General Manager: David Kelley

What he’s looking forward to

“The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most exciting events in the city. Every year we look forward to being part of the event and the energy it brings to the hotel, as well as Senses Bar. We’re just around the corner from the TIFF Bell Lightbox, which puts us in the middle of all the action!”

Why this hotel is a star favourite

“We are a small and private affair. We eat, breathe and sleep ‘discretion’ when it comes to our guests, celebrities and non-celebrities alike. We also have several secluded entrances and exits to manage our talent in and out of the hotel without anyone knowing. It’s part of our cache.”

Who they’re expecting this year (any hints?)

“Now, we cannot divulge before or during any of our guest’s stays so for that, you will just have to wait and see. We have long standing solid relationships with the studios and our reputation ensures they use us year and year again.”

Special guests they have hosted in the past

“Madonna (Guy Ritchie), Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Jude Law, Mariah Carey,  Jay-Z, Usher, ColdPlay, Alicia Keys, Elle Macpherson, Pink and Timbaland to name just a few past guests. We’ve also host some great TIFF after parties including It Might Get Loud (A documentary on the electric guitar featuring the Edge, Jimmy Page and Jack White), and Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman’s film, Trespass.”

Four Seasons Hotel Toronto
Chef Concierge AKA ultimate champion of TIFF: Liloo Alim

What she’s looking forward to

“The movies, of course! I am especially excited to see Blue is the Warmest Color and The Lunchbox.”

Why this hotel is a star favourite

“Despite the fact that we are a great hideaway from the craziness around the lightbox, at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, we also completely understand and accommodate our guests’ needs. We are efficient, discreet and respectful of their privacy.”

Who they’re expecting this year (any hints?)

“Our lips are sealed! ;)”

Special guests they have hosted in the past

“Oprah Winfrey, Penelope Cruz, Kate Blanchett, George Clooney, Robert Redford and the list goes on.”

Ritz Carlton Toronto
Director of Sales and Marketing: Daniel Newberry

What he’s looking forward to

“Unveiling our four brand new guest suites.  These have been specially designed for our VIP guests who require larger accommodations.  At 900 sq. ft., they feature all the modern luxuries one has come to expect from The Ritz-Carlton.”

Why this hotel is a star favourite

“Location, location, location.  Across from Roy Thomson Hall and just steps away from the TIFF Bell Lightbox, The Ritz-Carlton Toronto’s central location makes it convenient for VIP guests to  access everything that’s happening during TIFF.”

Park Hyatt Toronto

What they’re looking forward to

“Toronto is a very exciting destination with lots to see and experience year round.  During TIFF, there is heightened electricity to the city…an extra buzz that makes this an even more exciting time.”

Why this hotel is a star favourite

“We offer each guest a very personalized experience. Our seasoned team ensures that our guests are comfortable while creating their stay to specifically suit their individual needs and preferences. In addition to luxury amenities, we are also home to Award-Winning Stillwater Spa and one of Toronto’s favourite spots – the Roof Lounge. ROOF II is open exclusively during TIFF, which invites guests to experience two favourite hot spots while enjoying stunning views, 18 stories above Yorkville.

Our location…As one of Toronto’s most celebrated neighbourhoods of style, guests are able to experience the ultimate fusion of historic charm and modern seduction. At their leisure guests can enjoy over 700 boutiques, cafés and restaurants at our doorstep.”

Why you should visit the Roof Lounge

“The Roof Lounge (open year round) and ROOF II – which is open exclusively during TIFF are both on the 18th floor and open to the public. Our TIFF inspired libations and classic cocktail menus are always a crowd favourite. Both venues offer small plates, large plates for sharing and a late night menu.”
