What Should I Expect?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Airport security is a necessary evil, and most travelers are co-operative and understanding that this is all in the interest of their safety.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to arrive early at the airport, and the whole security experience is less taxing.\u00a0 It is only frustrating when you are in a big hurry, and worried you will miss your flight.<\/p>\n<p>If you are fortunate enough to be flying business class, there is sometimes a priority lane in some airports which you can use to avoid some lineup.<\/p>\n<p>The first step is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/liquids-aerosols-and-gels-what-can-i-carry-on-board\/\" title=\"Carry-on Liquids, Aerosols and Gels \u2013 What\u2019s Allowed?\">liquids and gels<\/a>.\u00a0 You will be reminded about this, and asked to dump any drinks and excess liquids before checking in.\u00a0 Best to have your coffee or drink AFTER security or it will be a big gulp or a waste.\u00a0 All your liquids and gels must be placed in a small Ziploc bag which will be provided \u2013 any excess must be thrown out.<\/p>\n<p>Once you snake your way through the line up, you will need to prepare for the metal detection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have your\u00a0<strong>boarding pass<\/strong>\u00a0readily\u00a0<strong>available<\/strong>\u00a0as it is scanned (no need to have photo ID or passports at this stage)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Empty your pockets<\/strong>\u00a0of all metal and place them in the plastic bin (you don\u2019t need to put your wallet in the bin)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Remove your coat<\/strong>\u00a0or jacket (fold and place in the bin)<\/li>\n<li>Put\u00a0<strong>cell phones a<\/strong>nd any other electronic devices in the bin<\/li>\n<li>Remove<strong>\u00a0laptop computer<\/strong>\u00a0and put it in a separate bin<\/li>\n<li>Remove your<strong>\u00a0belt and shoes<\/strong>\u00a0(especially for travel to and through the USA)<\/li>\n<li>Place your\u00a0<strong>Ziploc bag of liquids<\/strong>\u00a0and gels so they are\u00a0<strong>visible and accessible<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Walk through the scanner\u00a0<strong>only when asked<\/strong>\u00a0(it needs to reset from the last passenger, and they have to pay attention when you walk through)<\/li>\n<li>Make\u00a0<strong>no jokes<\/strong>\u00a0or comments about security, hijackings, or terrorist activity \u2013 they will be taken seriously<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You may be randomly selected for a body scan.\u00a0 This is new technology being implemented, and today you can opt for a body \u201cpat down\u201d instead.\u00a0 The scan is quick and the image is reviewed by security personnel in another room.<\/p>\n<p>For the courtesy of other travellers, when through the scanner, push all your belongings to the very end of the counter.\u00a0 From time to time, security personnel may review the contents of scanned bags with you.\u00a0 Listen carefully to their questions and answer them directly.\u00a0 Electronic devices may be subjected to a swipe test \u2013 this is a test for explosive material and takes a few seconds.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Airport security is a necessary evil, and most travelers are co-operative and understanding that this is all in the interest of their safety.\u00a0 It\u2019s important to arrive early at the airport, and the whole security experience is less taxing.\u00a0 It is only frustrating when you are in a big hurry, and worried you will miss [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"parent":92,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"sidebar-page.php","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/101"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=101"}],"version-history":[{"count":12,"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/101\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":204,"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/101\/revisions\/204"}],"up":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/92"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.tripcentral.ca\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=101"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
