Featuring turquoise waters, entertainment options for all ages, and a sophisticated environment, everything about the Bahamas evokes grandeur. A popular choice among sun-seekers, the Atlantis appeals to the young and young-at-heart, singles and couples, and even business travellers. There is something about the Atlantis that speaks to people’s hearts. Let’s just say, it’s called Paradise Island for a good reason.

Jessie Newbigging gives us an insider scoop of her recent experience at the Atlantis Resort.

Cove Atlantis

The Cove Atlantis is gorgeous. It is the high end property in Atlantis. It features a private adult-only pool for guests at the Cove and for the penthouse suites guests at the Reef Atlantis. It has very modern, clean, large, and luxurious rooms. The Cove is about a five-minute shuttle ride from the Royal Towers (where the DIG and casino are).

Reef Atlantis

This hotel is the second newest in the Atlantis. It’s a bit further from the Royal Towers, but close to the Cove. It’s an apartment-style property with rooms that have kitchens with stoves, fridges, microwaves, and utensils. The rooms vary from an open plan studio to multiple room suites. The higher room category you select, the more grand the rooms get. All rooms are big, clean, and modern with lots of light. It’s a good option for people wanting to save money.

The Three Towers

Centrally located by the beach, the rooms in the Royal Towers are fairly spacious, clean, and nicely decorated; although the bathrooms are a little dated. Fridges are full but are on a weight system similar to Las Vegas. The lead-in room category comes with a French balcony, but if you prefer a full balcony, opt for a suite. WiFi at the hotel costs $21 per day.

Adjacent to the Royal Towers is the Coral Towers, which is also connected through the casino. It is older than the Royal Towers, but the rooms here are nice and offer a full balcony.

Beach Tower is a five-minute shuttle ride from the Royal Towers. It is perfect for the budget-conscious families. Rooms are clean and fairly large, and come with a full balcony.

Amenities

Grounds at the hotel are large, well-kept and beautiful. There are plenty of fountains, statues, and aquariums. It takes a long time to walk from lobby to beach.

The hotel offers the best kids club I have seen! The price is about $45 per session per child. The facilities are new and have something for children of all ages. Activities and amenities available include cooking classes, cupcake decorating, an arts and crafts room, a huge playhouse, and an outdoor area. The Atlantis also has a Teen Club, which had a huge “gaming tree,” which consists of 25 flat screen TVs on all sides of a stand, 25 gaming chairs, and its own disco. The admission prize for teens is $25 per teen per day.

Excursions

Park passes for people not staying at the resort start at $140 for the day and are limited depending on occupancy.

We took a ride in the lazy river which was great fun. The Atlantis has its own dolphin swimming and sea lion interactions. We did the shallow water dolphin interaction. The staff and tour were amazing!

There is also the Dig, which is a marine life exhibit. It is a unique exhibit of underground tunnels and caves that have glass windows into the aquariums. It houses over 50,000 aquatic animals, including sharks, barracudas, piranha, eels, and jellyfish, to name a few.

Dining and Casino

There are lots of high class shops located in the area. The price for breakfast buffets is about $28 and dinner can go above $50. There is a Marina area where people park there million dollar yachts. In here, you will find reasonably priced foods like pizza and Quiznos. At night it was busy and had live bands playing. It was very easy to get to from the Atlantis. We just took a water taxi down at the pier which cost $4 per way.

I loved the Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill ($$$$). The best buffet is Mosaic which is only available on the Cove and Reef dining plan, not the regular guest plan. In the casino, there is a nightclub called Dragons. The prices for drinks are high, so be wary if you’re planning to splurge (Martinis $16, beer $10, mixed drinks $15).

Overall, the hotel is fantastic! But you definitely need to have a large budget to enjoy the hotel to the fullest. It offers 5-star dining, which was incredible, but it also had the 5-star dining price tag. Since it’s not an all-inclusive resort, families would rack up a high bill very quickly on their visit here.

Breezes Bahamas: A Great Alternative to Atlantis

For those wishing to stay close to the Atlantis, while enjoying the perks of an all-inclusive property, the Breezes Bahamas is the place to go. The hotel is a solid 3-star property that features a long walking beach on Cable Beach. The hotel is small and compact, with a recently refurbished buffet section. The pools are lively but don’t offer a lot of shade. There is a pool bar and a snack bar nearby with delicious French fries and BBQ. They don’t have the largest food variety but still enjoyable. I thought the rooms were good in size. All the rooms came with flat screen TVs, French style balconies, and newer bathrooms. WiFi is included at this property. Overall, it’s a great alternative to the Atlantis. It can be quite busy but a great party hotel!

To learn more about our available all-inclusive vacation packages, call Jessie Newbigging at 1-800-665-4981 ext. 7405!
