From the end of October until mid-March, Michoac\u00e1n welcomes over 200 million monarch butterflies. The Mexican Tourist Board<\/a> says that according to legends, \u201cthe Monarch butterflies arriving in Mexico at this time of the year are believed to be the souls of the deceased returning to earth.\u201d The sanctuary in El Rosario, which is situated 1,000 feet above sea level, is the most popular spot for visitation. Sierra Chincua is a better option for visitors who are unable to hike up the hillside of El Rosario, while the small town of Angangueo is a worthy alternative if you wish to take part in the Festival de la Mariposa Monarca in February.<\/p>\n
