We sent some\u00a0of our travel agents to check out the new Riu Republica<\/a> resort in Punta Cana earlier this summer, after the resort opened in June.\u00a0Here’s what they\u00a0had to say:<\/p>\n

1007 rooms: double rooms, triple rooms, family rooms, suites, and jacuzzi suites<\/p>\n

4 restaurants: buffet, Italian cuisine, Asian cuisine, steakhouse.<\/p>\n

5 bars<\/p>\n

3 pools<\/p>\n

\"Jennifer<\/a>Jennifer Collard (ext\u00a07242)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Overall rating:<\/span> “Solid 4-star out of 5”<\/p>\n

Value:<\/span> “Right now, the price is great value for being adults-only”<\/p>\n

Beach:<\/span> “The beach is AMAZING; there seemed to be lots of palapas, but it was hard to find shade because they were all taken.”<\/p>\n

Pools:<\/span> “Shallow and warm. There were ramps in both pools and there was one quiet, one lively pool. The swim-up bar is actually separated from the activity pool, with lots of shade around both pools.”<\/p>\n

Food:<\/span> “The buffet was tasty with tons of variety. I noticed some of the stuff wasn’t labelled so well with links like allergens, and I didn’t see a gluten-free section, and their specialty restaurants are more like smaller buffets. The only a la carte is the Steakhouse.”<\/p>\n

Notes:<\/span> “There’s something called the Sensimar Section, which is exclusive to European clients with an extra pool, specific block of rooms, and an exclusive specialty restaurant. Also note smoking is allowed in the sports bar.”<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Alexandra<\/a>Alexandra Biddle (ext 7425)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Overall rating:<\/span> “4 out of 5 stars”<\/p>\n

Value:<\/span> “Great value for a great beach destination”<\/p>\n

Pools:<\/span> “All pools have zero entry and are warm and relaxing, and the swim-up bar area feels like a pool itself. It’s quite large and has tables and seats in the water set back from the swim-up bar so you don’t feel crowded. It has a Vegas pool feel with fun music.”<\/p>\n

Food:<\/span> “The buffet had a lot of variety; you could see the chefs constantly checking up on the buffet. They had a meat station, fish station, pasta station, and a Caribbean station. There were lots of choices for vegetarians, as well, which can sometimes be hard to find when you’re on vacation. The sports bar was also open 24 hours and had nachos with cheese, hotdogs and hamburgers, and cookies…you could just help yourself to these options.”<\/p>\n

Rooms:<\/span> “One of the things I loved about the rooms were that the balconies had chairs and a towel drying rack, and the wall outlets have a built-in USB outlet for your cords.”<\/p>\n

Notes:<\/span> “The WiFi even worked at the beach!”<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Teelah<\/a>Teelah Brown (ext\u00a07379)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Overall rating:<\/span> “4.5 out of 5 stars!”<\/p>\n

Value:<\/span> “Great opportunity to experience a brand new Riu resort at 4-star pricing”<\/p>\n

Pools:<\/span> “The pool on the opposite side of the swim-up is quite large, more quiet, and has sun bathing chairs built into the pool for resting and relaxing.”<\/p>\n

Beach:<\/span> “The beach is white powder sand, and easy to access. Lots of new beach chairs and palapas, and sometimes the staff set up a bar at the beach so you don’t have to walk back to the pool bar.”<\/p>\n

Rooms:<\/span> “The Riu Republica is a high-rise hotel with lots of quick elevators. There are 1,007 rooms with either 1 King or 2 Double beds, and a mini-bar stocked daily. Each room has a sitting area, double sinks, very large glass shower, flat screen TV with several English channels, bathrobes, and digital safes. The beds were very comfy!”<\/p>\n
