The islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique are known for their reefs. It\u2019s the most popular, but large enough that it doesn\u2019t feel crowded. If seclusion is what you\u2019re after, head to La Sagesse, Bathway, or Levera Beach.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to go chasing waterfalls, Annandale Falls is a short drive from the capital city of St George\u2019s and has a paved pathway. Tour the island\u2019s forts (Fort George, Fort Matthew, Fort Frederick) or make a stop at the Grenada National Museum, Carriacou Museum, and Rome Museum.<\/p>\n<p>The River Antoine Rum Distillery is the oldest functioning water propelled distillery in the Caribbean. Westerhall Estate is another spot to see the rum making process and taste some samples.<\/p>\n<p>Famous for its spices, Grenada is a major source of nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and cocoa &#8211; earning itself the nickname \u201cSpice Isle.\u201d Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partner.viator.com\/en\/10465\/Grenada-attractions\/Belmont-Estate\/d967-a20140\">Belmont Estate<\/a> on the northeastern coast (an hour\u2019s drive from St George\u2019s) to discover the spice plantation, dating back to the 1600s. (The Grenada Chocolate Company is next door!) Grenada also boasts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partner.viator.com\/en\/10465\/Grenada-attractions\/De-La-Grenade-Nutmeg-Garden\/d967-a14923\">De La Grenade Nutmeg Garden<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partner.viator.com\/en\/10465\/Grenada-attractions\/Gouyave-Nutmeg-Station\/d967-a14920\">Gouyave Nutmeg Station<\/a>, plus various other spice, herbs, and botanical gardens throughout the islands.<\/p>\n<p>Grenada is home to the oldest operating rum distillery in the Western Hemisphere, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partner.viator.com\/en\/10465\/Grenada-attractions\/River-Antoine-Rum-Distillery\/d967-a14959\">River Antoine Rum Distillery<\/a> (est 1785) where you can learn about its production.<\/p>\n<p>Grenada also has one of the Caribbean\u2019s most picturesque capital city, St George\u2019s. The waterfront promenade is called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partner.viator.com\/en\/10465\/Grenada-attractions\/Carenage\/d967-a4771\">Carenage<\/a>, lined with colonial-era buildings, duty-free shops, restaurants, and cafes. Enjoy snorkeling at Sandy Island, a marine protected area known for clear blue waters and stunning coral reefs. Hike to High North National Park with the highest elevation on the island (at 955 ft) for amazing panoramic views and wildlife like iguanas and many bird species such as hummingbirds.<\/p>\n<p>For the most scenic beach on the island, take a half mile hike to reach Anse La Roche Beach. If you enjoy water sports, kayaking in the Oyster Bed, a pristine ecosystem accessible by a short boat ride from Tyrell Bay, is a great experience. Grenada\u2019s central resort area is Grand Anse.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>When to go and for how long<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Average temperatures in Grenada are fairly consistent year round, with lows of 25C and highs of 30C. Rainy season is June to November. If you want to experience a party, visit during Carnival in August for the last, best and safest Carnival in the Caribbean.
