As of July 19, 2017, all flights departing from Canada into the U.S. will follow a\u00a0new electronic screening process. It’s nothing major, but you may notice tightened security for passengers visiting the U.S.<\/p>\n
If you’re travelling with a personal electronic device larger than a cellphone (such as tablets and laptops), these electronics\u00a0may be subject to further screening, as per the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Transport Canada’s enhanced security measures.\u00a0Have your devices easily accessible and fully charged, with the cases and packaging removed in case they require further screening.<\/p>\n
In addition to\u00a0enhanced electronic device security, enhanced overall passenger screening, increased security protocols in passenger areas and around aircraft, and advanced technology, canine screening, and other measures will be taken to ensure safety.<\/p>\n
This security measure applies\u00a0to all commercial flights to the United States and affects 280 airports in 105 countries that are the last point of contact before entry into the U.S. There are 2,100 average daily flights to the U.S. transporting 325,000 average daily passengers.<\/p>\n
WestJet and Air Canada issued notices advising people to arrive to the gate early in case of delays.\u00a0For U.S. bound flights, arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to departure to allow time for airport security.<\/p>\n
