The Calgary Stampede is built upon the region\u2019s rodeo heritage. The rodeo tradition dates back to the 1600s, and was brought to the forefront in Calgary in 1912 when Guy Weadick organized a cowboy competition. From tournament-style rodeo to extreme jet skiers and a chuck wagon event: the GMC Rangeland Derby, there is an action-filled lineup for the whole family to enjoy! Not to mention the nightly entertainment, water and light shows, Family Feud Live, many rides and games, activities for children, arts and crafts, marching bands, and unique markets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are four stages that host local and international talent.\u00a0 Carly Rae Jepson, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks, and KISS are the headliners this year. Dragonette, Down with Webster, K-OS, and Hedley are other notable acts, among many others.\u00a0 Visitors look forward to the selection of exclusive food options available each year.\u00a0 Feeling adventurous? Deep-fried Doritos, chocolate-dipped jalapenos, pickle shooters, and chocolate bacon apples are just some of the absurd fares being featured. We suggest you try one for the rest of us!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Stampede is coordinated by a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Western culture and committed to developing a sense of community. \u00a0The organization focuses on youth and agricultural programs but also encourages volunteers and participation in their other community initiatives. They emphasize their commitment to animal care and work closely with their partners to protect more than 7,500 animals that partake in the Stampede.
