Not so great

Resort view was pretty the pool was great staff great very friendly how ever food was not good at all not much to choose last day was horrible found cockrochies in the room and the staff did nothing slept in the lobby

Amazing beach & property..but the entertainment not so much!

Our flight, airport, bus transfer and check in were easy. The food was really good (minus the Italian a la carte..it was almost inedible), but the buffets, snack bar and other a la cartes were all very good ..the Cuban soup was delicious!! The beach was so pretty, the sand was white, entry into the ocean was smooth, water was warm and clear. The entire resort was well maintained and the buildings look in good condition. The rooms are very old and dated, but we weren't in there much, so not a big deal. The beds could be bigger, they were a double. Overall we loved a lot about the resort, but we would never go back and the reason is the entertainment....it was very disappointing in all aspects. There was one day of beach/pool entertainment which lasted 20 minutes, there was pretty much no lobby entertainment and that is huge for us. The actual evening entertainment was pretty bad, not worth walking to it. Also, this didnt really matter to us, but there weren't many English speaking people at the resort ..the guests were mainly from Peru, Argentina, Brazil and Russia...we didn't meet any other Canadians, which was different.

Great resort!

We were pleasantly pleased with this resort. Very clean, extremely polite staff, good food and great drinks! Of course, the beach was beautiful, and the pool was quiet and clean. There was plenty of food every day and lots to choose from. I would definitely come back to this resort. We had a wonderful vacation!

Typical Cuba…fine for kids pools…

So as usual, the beach was fantastic. Pool was great and the pool restaurant was friendly servers and good atmosphere. Many people worry and complain about Cuba but you do have to understand where you’re going in all my visits to Cuba in 20 years. I only had one power outage, which happened the last night I was there Not a big deal. This is what I expect in Cuba and this is what I got I love the tropical fruit too bad. We didn’t have access to mangoes, but there was still at least 4 to 5 choices. The rooms are old and could be updated. However, they are functional and clean. The staff are always friendly and always love to receive goods and I’m always happy to bring an extra suitcase just full for them and I encourage other people to do that as well. My only suggestion would be if you have your own comforts then bring them and leave behind what you don’t need. I also liked that we had bottled water given to us every day instead of having to purchase it in the past. I would suggest that things are cheaper at the airport, but if you are in the markets, then definitely find what you want there. Sometimes things have been cheaper in the hotels and more expensive in the airport so although I write this today, I know the last time I went to Cuba a year and a half ago it wasn’t true so you really need to read recent posts also I would always suggest choosing the higher star hotel to hopefully get that better condition of a room. One thing I don’t like is how Sunwing has us leaving so late in the day and arriving so late and then we end up having to pay extra to do a late check out. I wish flights were a little bit more convenient and if not, then hotel check out should be negotiated with Sunwing for these kinds of situations. Also, it would be nice that Sunwing would have something posted in their hotel rather than us going and finding them the next day at 12 o’clock, which is inconvenient when all we wanna do is just relax on the beach and vacation however, these personnel are useful for people have not been to Cuba and need all the information. Also, this would be better value for money if Sunwing didn’t overcharge us for March break as it is March break it is not worth such a large amount of money and I would encourage people to go in another season or find a reasonable price for March break. It is not their high season, so it seems like it’s a killer more for us because of Sunwing charging us.

Great resort!

Beth suggested the Melia Peninsula and it was a great hotel. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It was a quiet resort, which was perfect for us. The food was good; we had no problem eating more than we should have - the fresh made pasta and omelettes were a hit. The beach and pool were lovely, and we had no trouble getting a lounger (didn't have to race down early to get a spot). Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

The Cubans are the greatest, they all treat you like royalty.

The best deal we've ever gotten. Really lucky it wasn't crowded, no line ups, fast service and great food/drinks. Rooms are great, air conditioned, hot water, no bugs. Only problem was the exchange,,,, DO NOT EXCHANGE ANY MONEY FOR PESOS!!!!! The Can$ is worth 3 times on the street compared to the bank exchange rates!!! Only bring Canadian CASH, or US if you feel rich and want to pay for that exchange. They love getting a Can$5 bill as a tip. So bring plenty(50-100) of them. Not recommended!

Beach was nice, pool was nice. Food was terrible, mostly cold and the same every meal. Not as we remember Cuba People and staff are wonderful. Choose another location. Best to try another country until things improve in a Cuba. This is definitely not a four plus star resort.

No bed sheets!

This is not at all a 4 or 4.5 hotel this is a 1-2 stars. For starters the keys to the room was given to us with no details of anything (no map, no instructions on how to access wifi, nothing!). The room did not have any sheets I complain 3 times and every time they said “okay we are bringing them to you” the 4 nights pass and we never got them. Wonderful Vacation

Travelled March 23-30. This resort is a nice size. Easily walk to the buffets and restaurants to beach to pool. We were in building closest to beach. The beach is gorgeous! One of the best. There was always lots of beach chairs and hen we were there. It was pretty windy all week so were not able to take out the kayaks or catamarans etc. but still lovely. The pool is nice however the only complaint there would be that they do not have many chairs around the pool. There’s always something to eat. There was egg every morning at the omelette station and lots of other choices. The coffee at the bar beside the buffet is much better than the coffee they give you in the buffet! The entertainment was ok. There was a show each night in or outside of the lobby. The rooms were the worst part. Our room was ground floor. There was mold and mildew in the closet and water dripping from the air conditioner. The beds were not the most comfortable but were fine. Water leaked all over the floor after every shower. Our maid was great though. We always had toilet paper and towels and water n the room. Our safe worked and the door locked. No issues with our key cards. All in all we had a great vacation. The staff were great! So friendly. And the price was great.

Just O.K

> The staff was very friendly, the room was clean and shower amazing with lots of hot water. The beds , 2 stuck together not the best. The beds were hard with flat pillows. The wifi not the best. The beach was perfect. The food, a good variety , very disappointingly cold. Same menu lunch and supper. My husband and I got sick with diarrhea the last 2 days and last 4 days in total. Sorry to say but we would not go back to this resort.

Wonderful Resort

Melia Peninsula was amazing… Rooms were spacious and clean. Staff was wonderful and personable. The beach was amazingly clean…lounge chairs always available. Only down side which is unavoidable no matter where you go in Cuba is food shortages and variety…but what was available there was plenty… Bring condiments and snacks and enjoy the Cuban culture

Over Rated

The pictures on line are very old and deceiving, the outside water fountains had either no water in them or had 6 inches of green water in them.The food overall was good, the La Cart restaurants were great, staff ( with the exception of our room maid) were very friendly and helpful. Had some shortages on Cola and white wine. Would not recommend, and would not go back. Another downside is the villa layouts, you are either close to pool and beach and have a long walk for bars and food or versa.

Beautiful place

The grounds were very well kept .The rooms were clean, could use a little updating but pretty good. The food was great for Cuba. Lots of alcohol, but ran out of different mixes everyday. The pool was well kept. Internet worked well and was free. The beach was nice. Entertainment was good. Staff were great. For the price you should not complain.

Terrible ?

Poor cleaning management really rude ....terrible food and drinks... but great stuff except management really really rude...I will never go back....they never clean my room.lots bugs ? and super dirty rooms

Tired looking resort

We stayed here five years ago and had a good experience so we thought we would go again. Unfortunately the resort was rundown. Rooms didn’t lock. Mattress very old and lumpy. Food is just okay but we didn’t expect too much in that area. Definitely book the restaurants if you go for fresher food. After 3 when lunch closes at main buffet you only have the pool bar for limited fried foods. Pool was lovely and beach as always amazing.

Shocking

We were shocked to see so many things wrong with this hotel. Where do i start? I will write in point format: - Was surprised that food was good. Especially ice cream. - Beach is amazing - Staff are friendly - No animation for kids (Animation team is siting and smoking next to the pool) When i asked why they are not playing sports with guests, they told me that they have no ball. ;( - Rooms are very old and not renovated. - Safe in room broken - Cleaning was fast and efficient, bu [... read more]t bed sheets unchanged all week - Door lock on room door was broken - The Gym has some good equipment, but sauna is in bad shape. - A la carte restaurant puts tap water into water bottles they serve. We all got sick on our last day. I later saw how they fill water into the water bottles. - Front desk employees look surprised and seem like they are there as a favor. Generally speaking, this hotel is far from 5 stars even by Cuban measurements. 3 Cuban stars at most.

Great Resort

Ground is beautiful ( need more light in the night) Service was great in the dining room area Staff are friendly Rooms are clean but outdated . The snack bar staff were great Atmosphere was very quiet . The accessibility room was lacking thoughts It had enough room for regular showers + the seating hand held shower Not enough bars to hold on for the elderly. Overall it was a great week and a great place .

7 day stay

Nice grounds, Beautiful beaches, Not bad pool, WiFi was adequate Friendly staff, Maintenance was satisfactory, Meals were repetitive but fine, Not enough activities, Enjoyable evening entertainment, 3/5

1 star resort

This was the worst experience ever in Cuba. Nothing really worked properly at the resort. Rooms were not clean, we did not get clean towels or water. It was a struggle to find someone to help. They were just not interested. Not enough food.. only pasta and rice. I would not recommend this resort better to pay more and go somewhere else. Especially if you are travelling with kids!!
