Cofresi palm beach and spa

Very out dated but it was just fine, we stayed there before and new what to expect. But it's not a good resort for elderly or mobility problems people. Way to many stairs it does not say that anywhere.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly at Cofresi Palm Beach Resort

The Good: The staff, the two main buffets and some of the ala carte restaurants were alright (not all of the ala carte restaurants were open or available). The small gym was clean and available. We had requested a ground floor room and that's what we got. Our room was cleaned daily. The Bad: There are 160 stairs between the beach and the lobby. We managed, but if you have mobility issues you'll be in trouble. Some of the buildings and walkways are in poor repair. The reception desk staff did no [... read more]t provided any useful assistance even when asked several times. There was a frequent sewage smell. The pools were gross dirty with hair and plastic cups. The only way to get service was to tip the cleaning and maintenance people. The Ugly: Our room was in very poor repair. The furniture was old (armchair was broken, beds were almost unusable, the closet doors were falling apart). The towels and linen were old but clean. The bedsheets were so thin that there were holes in some places (we use stuff like that for rags at the cottage). The pillows were lumpy (I know that sounds like a dumb complaint, but there were really bad). There was no roller in the toilet paper holder, so toilet paper sat stacked on the back of the toilet all the time. The toilet didn't flush properly. The bathtub wouldn't drain for hours after a shower. The shower hose and wand leaked. The sliding door was impossible to open and close. The main door wouldn't close without slamming it (I'm sure our neighbours hated us for it). There was no TV for the first four days and then not one English channel. The room phone was hit and miss. The clock radio didn't work and there was no control for the air conditioner.

Disappointing stay at Cofresi!

We booked a 7-day all-inclusive vacation stay with my girlfriend at Puerto Plata's Cofresi Palm Beach Resort through TripCentral. It was an all-inclusive, SUPERIOR ROOM with Airport-Hotel Transfers included. After consistent delays from the get-go, we checked into our assigned room and immediately noticed several serious issues related to cleanliness, maintenance, and overall room condition. The room lacked in multiple key areas: 1. Ventilation System – Unsanitary and Poorly Maintained The  [... read more]air vents are visibly covered in dust build-up, mould and dark residue, resulting from a lack of proper cleaning over an extended period. This raised concerns in us about air quality, hygiene, and potential health risks. Additionally, the ventilation system is noticeably loud, impacting our sleep and overall stay in the room. 2. Bathroom – Lack of Cleanliness The shower curtain, faucet, and tub are stained and visibly dirty, also containing visible dark spots and marks that suggest mould or mildew. This indicates the bathroom has not been properly cleaned or maintained before our arrival, which is unacceptable for a newly checked-in room. The room also did not come with any of the standard issued towels and washing equipment, like body and hair wash. 3. Door and Structural Condition – Damaged Fixtures The door frame near the handle is cracked and visibly damaged, showing clear signs of wear and lack of repair. While the front door was able to be locked, the door on our balcony was not, making it very easy to step in and out of the room. This not only reflects poor maintenance standards but also raises concerns about safety and security. 4. Overall Room Condition The room appeared outdated, poorly maintained, and not properly prepared for new guests or anyone, for that matter. These types of rooms should not be given out to anyone. Multiple elements (ventilation, bathroom cleanliness, structural damage) collectively indicate a systemic lack of upkeep rather than an isolated issue. Given the above issues, we confronted the staff of the resort and were sent from one department to another with no help and forced to stay in the room for a night longer than we should've cause the resort was fully booked, although that was a lie, as they had options available with an extra cost ($). That is totally unacceptable, and the false information provided by the resort staff is clear misinformation which they knew about. After switching us into a different room almost two full days into our trip, we got sent to another part of the resort with the same room level but better room conditions. While the rooms were suitable for newcomers, there were quite a few problems with these units as well. The front doors in the new room broke down quite often, causing us to travel to the lobby on a consistent basis to have a technician come and replace our keys or the key entrance fobs to the room. While this is not a major issue, the neighbours around the room were. In this section of the resort, there were a lot of mentally unstable residents banging and kicking things around throughout the whole day and night. Oftentimes, we couldn't get any sleep from the shouting and kicking of objects. We called the front desk and security on multiple occasions during our time there, getting no answer on most nights, with some nights a singular security guard coming to do a routine check-up on the unstable residents. It was a chaotic and stressful time for the whole duration of the trip. We filed a formal complaint with the SunWing representative who was available on the scene, but besides switching us out of the initial unsuitable room, he was not of much help. The staff around the resort did not seem to really care about any of these issues and were quite dismissive with their actions and tones. After all these issues, all we got as an apology was a fruit bowl and a cheap bottle of champagne sent to the room, which we couldn't consume cause of the stomach flu we caught from eating at their buffet. Hope this review helps a family or an individual in their booking decision with Cofresi and similar resorts around the area. For the amount of money being asked, I would rather book at a totally different region or a different part of the country altogether.

Older resort with some issues

Hotel grounds are very large. Many hills and stairs. Rooms need upgrading. Not enough chairs on the beach or pools. Party of 5 people on our stay. Everyone got sick for a day or so. Staff are hit or miss.

Horrendous Resort!!!

The bad: This is the worst resort I have ever stayed at!! The front desk customer service is awful to non-existent. The public washrooms at the lobby were so bad they had to place pilons in front of the doors to stop people from going in to use them. During our 7 day stay, we had 3 hot showers, 3 cold showers and one day with no shower because there was no water!! Our family members had no a/c, no television, no telephone, and no coffee pot. In their room, they had 2 lukewarm showers, 3 days [... read more] with cold showers and 2 days with no water to shower with. One day my sister had to go find a mop bucket of water and carry it up 3 sets of stairs just to flush her toilet!! Although we were promised beer and bottled water in our rooms, we had to buy bottled water because they weren't supplying it, even though it was requested multiple times per day. In our room, our toilet broke and when we called the front desk to ask for maintenance they hung up on us 3 or 4 times. When I finally walked over to the front desk to speak with someone, I got eye rolls and name called (I do understand some Spanish). They tried to get me to go in a van with an unknown man "to find maintenance". I refused because I had read the stories from others who were driven to remote spots on the resorts and abandoned to walk back. Mark heard maintenance men working upstairs from our room and blocked their exit until they looked at our toilet, which they then fixed, although they had not been informed of the issue. The smell of raw sewage was overwhelming multiple times per day - really bad!! For a handicapped person or someone with a disability, the number of stairs was overwhelming to get from one spot to another. The main lobby/courtyard area has 1 bar to serve everyone!! Although there are 3 other bars on the Cofresi resort, 1 was at the beach (multiple levels of steps), and 2 were shut down and left moulding. The good : the pool was great, the scenery was nice and the food was adequate. We were told that Air Canada and Air Transat vacations have stopped selling packages to the Cofresi resort because it is in such bad condition!! I would not recommend this resort to my worst enemy!!

Cofresi Palm Beach

A little older built resort, very big, getting around is by shuttle bus or walking in short distances. Beautiful palms and lush greenery. Many pools, the best is the adult only. Some rooms had problems with the air conditioning not working, the cofresi part of the resort would need more renovation.

All in all a great experience

The main public areas (lobby, pools and buffets) were well maintained, although maintenance to some infrastructure (roof thatching, some moldy hallways) needed attention. In addition, I'd strongly recommend making the narrow closed in area in front of the only entrace to the main buffet a 'Non Smoking Area' as cigerette smoke smells took away from the dining experience.

WASTE OF MONEY - DON'T GO

ROOMS OLD VERY OLD. OUT DATED AND WORN OUT. NO HOT WATER FOR 5 DAYS, MOLD IN ROOMS, VERY NOISY, LOTS OF STAIRS. BEACH IS DISGUSTING, VERY DIRTY. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. FOOD HORRIBLE. STAFF SO-SO IF YOU GET A GOOD ONE. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR WEBSITE - OR UPDATE IT. MUST BE 25 YEARS OLD. THE PLACE DOES NOT LOOK ANYTHING LIKE IT , NONE OF THE PICTURES ARE ACCURATE. IT WAS LIKE WE WERE ON SURVIVOR, IT WAS THAT BAD.

Worst place ever

⭐ Absolutely the Worst Resort Experience – Not Even 0 Stars Our stay at Cofresi Palm Beach Resort (Jan 20–27, Booking #149939083) was extremely unsafe and unacceptable. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place, especially seniors. This resort is unsafe, poorly maintained, and completely unprofessional. I will never return, and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Resort poor

We really didn’t have a good experience. Room was leaking water from air conditioning. No hot water for three days. Towels and bedsheets are very shabby. Worst was so many steps to take from beach to lobby,dinning area. Not relaxed at all.

I don’t recommend this resort at all. There is no nothing working. No hot water.air conditioning not working. Phone was not working. Pool was very dirty. Very hazardous place for walking. Bed sheets were not clean.

2 star at best

This includes the Cofresi and Presidential suites. The issues were so numerous we need to warn people before coming even if the price is a steal. Property in bad repair. Cold water Showers that won't drain. Broken iron. Dirty cracked pools. Watered down bottom of the barrel alchohol drinks. The food was the worst part. Which was surprising based off the reviews. Other guests and us commented how we had to stash bananas and crackers in our rooms just in case. The al a cartes were good but again issues; you can only book 3 total and the ones you want are always already fully booked. Was asked 50 times do I want to buy a massage, buy excursions, buy cigars but I couldn't even get a decent meal. We had to eat off the resort to get a decent dinner. The internet limit is one hour a day and you have to move around to connect. The entertainment is minimal. Resorts are a 2 star disguised as a 3.5/4. Wouldn't stay here again even if it was free. Wouldn't recommend. Wouldn't return ever. The staff very friendly, the staff were some of the nicest people I've met in my entire life. My complaints are with the poor management and resort owners who are skimping on the food and allowing the property to stay in bad repair.

Lousy Beach. Good Value

Hard to beat for the price. Good food, lots of booze, nice pools and lousy beach. Seriously, the beach had open sewer and smelled awful. We had to tip to get good rum. Our room was not a suite as advertised. Lots of nice people but not so much at the reception desk.

Regular resort

Room is in very bad condition. La comida debe ser mejora, el pan no lucia y sabia fresco. Alguna de la comida del Buffet parecía reciclada. Debería prohibir fumar en cualquier área del Resort. Sin embargo la gente que trabaja en el Resort son muy amables y gentiles.

Loved it

Although we were warned of Renovations, it was of no inconvenience at all. The hospitality and food were fantastic. We had our personal shuttle to and from the Resort, that was very much needed, zero stops along the way. Thanks Cofresi for the memories!

Lots of fun!

The resort has alot more than what is said online, they have foam parties, silent disco nights and fun things to do during the day while being around the pool. A lot of fun for younger adults! The food was pretty good and many different options to pick from for dinner, either buffet or making a reso at one of the restaurants. Many different pools, and easy and fast walk to the beach.

Never go back again

I’m gonna be writing a formal complaint or sliding door fell off almost squished my partner the bathroom window fell out. The ceiling was leaking in front of the safe.. the bathroom leaked water all underneath the sink and all over the floor and countertop. The first room we were put in was full of mould on the second room we got had all those issues and others. Horrible resort

We vacationed at the Cofresi Palm Beach Hotel in Puerto plata, Dominican Republic on April 4th to 11th. I had family meet my husband and I here there for a total of 7 people. This hotel is definitely not for anyone however has a mobility issue. There is no elevators and so many stairs. I meet 5 members of my There are shuttles but always had to wait for them and were not frequent. The beach was not near our room so walking for me was very difficult. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I wouldn't even give it a 1 star.

It was okay

Well organized pick up and transfer to the resort from airport. Fast check in too. The junior suite room was exactly as we saw online. With one surprise, a view of the pool and beach! We were close to the pool, bar, snack area and beach(3 mins). Room was always done and mini fridge full with water, beer and pop. AC worked amazing especially since it was soooo hot. Just what we needed. One thing we didn't like and annoyed us to no end was the constant staff asking if we wanted massages. Also, when getting a junior suite you may get a deal that includes some VIP privileges. We had that. We figured we could see where everything was, like the bars and restaurants. Boy were we fooled. Totally not that at all. We were taken to a big white building that says "lifestyles vacation club". We were told to sit on these fancy couches and then someone came for us. We were told to come with him he was our tour guide. Ok. Off we went. 4 hrs later ..no lie, and 2 pissed off people(myself and my husband) the "tour" was done. They didn't show us the different pools, or stores, or restaurants or bars! No. They showed us all the options out there to become "vacation club" members. Not a "time share"(which is exactly what it is) after I finally stepped up and said "I'm getting angry. We are NOT doing it so stop trying" we were finally set free ...and no they didn't take us back to our resort which was a far walk in the heat. We caught a shuttle instead. Which is a great addition at the resort I might add. The shuttle runs every 15-25 mins. Tell them where you want to go and they take you! And seeing how it's a Stay at 1 Play at 3 Resort, it comes in handy and really appreciated! The food was ok. Nothing fancy but we didn't starve and we ate healthy. Only issue is there isnt a restaurant open 24/7. So if you miss breakfast you wait again until it opens for lunch, same again with supper. But the staff there were great! They even befriend you and remember your faces. Not alot of entertainment. We pretty much just hung with friends and drank and made our own fun. No bars open down by Cofresi resort (where we stayed) past 7pm. So we had to make our way up to others. When I say up, I mean all up hill...with many many sets of concrete unlevel steps. Not fun in the heat or when you are hungry or tipsy. But again thank god for the shuttle. They aren't shy on the booze either. I actually had to ask for less alcohol in my drinks because they were so strong. But hey won't complain on that end! Great offering. If you book a trip and get a later time to leave resort, make a plan. We had to check out of our room 1130am. Didn't leave til 720pm for airport. To stay in the room and extra 1 1/2 hrs it was $20.00 usd. After that it was $10.00hr usd per person up until 5pm! Ya no thanks. There is a locked room where they store your luggage and can have access to. That is when the Bellhop is there.. Don't fall for the "you can use hospitality room" crap either. Said you can go in to shower before you leave. What a joke ! We sat there infront of the desk for 2.5 hours waiting for our turn. We kept being told "check back in 30 mins" or "yes you are next what is your name". Joke. We asked 3 times and got "oh sorry someone is in there" then when we said " we have been here you said you could see us and will tell us when free and now it's not" we were pissed. We didn't get to shower after spending our last day there...so imagine what a comfy flight we had. They also don't include soap or shampoo in the hospitality room and 2 towels and apparently it was disgusting with a broken shower head. Guess we dodged a bullet. Don't lose your bracelets. $200.00usd to replace. Don't lose your blue towels. $40.00 usd each for a new one. Also don't leave in your room at check out. Bring them to the front desk! Bring cash Don't use card They seem to convert from Pesos to Usd then Canadian. We thought it was only USD to Canadian exchange when using CC. Nope. When we saw our online statement we near died!! Book your excursions on resort only. Not with anyone on the beach. Recommend the ATV 3 hour tour and party boat(booked at water sports store on the boardwalk at Cofresi) what a time! We had Mexican A la Carte. It was ok. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Then we had Italian. It was very good. Atmosphere was not so good. So loud, lots of yelling. Couldn't have a conversation across the table. Didn't stay for dessert because of headache from the noise. Overall, we had a great time and made the best of it. Met up with our friends who also came and met some new ones! Just keep an eye and pay attention to the negatives mentioned above. Hesitant on going again though because 5/6 of us got super sick the first few days home. We weren't on the same flights so had to be the resort.

Gone downhill

We visited this hotel 10’yeats ago and had a great experience. This yea we tried it again and it was not the same experience. The grounds were dirty, pools all needed repainted lawn chairs broken everywhere. Garbage laying around all over. The staff was more interested in telling you what they would charge you with than helping. We all had food poisoning out last night and were sick for 10 hours. Entertainment was lacking and there was no Sunday vip party as advertised. Would never visit again.
