Hotel Nyx is a charming little gem

It took us weeks of careful research before deciding to book our first family all-inclusive vacation in Mexico at Hotel Nyx Cancun, but it turned out to be the best vacation we had in a very long time ! Not too far from the airport and within walking distance to La Isla shopping center, Nyx is a winning ticket for tourists (like us) who enjoy a quaint smaller hotel with an amazing staff, delicious food and a generous sized beach. After sundown, the discrete lighting brings them all together in a magical way. Honorio ( Jojo) was more than just the first friendly and polite staff to welcome us to Nyx and guide us to our rooms, but always ready to offer an advice or an unbiased recommendation. A little mix-up with our deluxe rooms on our arrival was promptly corrected the next morning at Reception by David and Meike who went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction was guaranteed. The deluxe rooms assigned to us initially were in tower 1 and tower 6. While both were modernized, the room in tower 1 was so small that the king size bed almost filled the whole room and facing the lagoon made it almost impossible to sleep due to the constant traffic noise on the Kukulkan Ave. The next morning we have moved to other rooms in the main tower which were still very clean, with comfortable beds, significantly more spacious and quieter, but lacking much needed updates. The complimentary champagne bottle was a nice touch and it was well received ! The house keeping did an amazing job, refreshing our rooms every day and refilling the fridges with water, soft drinks and beer. One of the fridges had a malfunction at some point, but the dispatched maintenance tech showed up promptly and resolved it on the spot despite being almost 10PM. The quite elegant Balam restaurant from the lobby serves amazing breakfast and dinner, while the beach restaurant will fulfill your lunch needs. Both serve a good variety of delicious choices and even the pickiest eater will have its taste buds tickled. Our compliments to the Chef and the kitchen staff for the delicious and rich selection of dishes, deserts and pastries which totally dismantled the all-inclusive buffet stigma as being cheap, boring and repetitive. Hugo and Gerardo made our meals even more enjoyable with their great service, while Jose JJ and Jhohn kept us well “hydrated” with masterfully crafted drinks at both the lobby bar and the pool bar. Daniel put quite a show while preparing our tasty Teppanyaki dinner at the Japanese Umami restaurant one evening, but Chianti Italian restaurant on our last night did not impress at all and made us regret missing out on what culinary wonders the buffet dinner had to offer. For those interested in expanding their taste experience with some gourmet out-of-this-world tacos, the Tacos Villanos is conveniently located just outside the Nyx entrance ramp. It only took the 4 of us about $100 to get hooked on their tacos and to set our bar so high now that we cannot even enjoy other tacos anymore ;) The beach is beautiful and there was no shortage of sun beds with or without shade. Being the top of the season for sargassum, the beach was cleaned every morning and only a small amount of the sea weed was present. We were impressed to learn one morning that the life guard was not there just to protect us humans, but he also promptly came to rescue about a dozen baby leatherback turtles that got tangled in the seaweed accumulated overnight on the edge of the beach. A couple of Nyx employees were radioed in and quickly showed up with a proper crate to take the hatchlings to a safe place until their proper release the following night. The swimming pool was nice and clean and it seemed to be quite enjoyable with lots of engaging activities during the day, but cannot comment more as we always prefer the beach and swim in the ocean. The lobby was comfortable and as spotless clean as the rest of the hotel and it offered a cool refuge from the unforgiving August heat during the noon-ish hours. Two big screen TV’s will let you watch your preferred sport or you can show your skills at the pool table for 10 pesos per game. The designated smoking area is just outside the double sliding doors as you pass the pool table. The day wouldn’t have been complete without the nice evening entertainment mix of music genres, various talented local artists, DJ and even a karaoke night, all the way to 11pm. Should you have an early morning departure on a tour or back to the airport (like we had), please inform in advance the friendly reception staff and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find a nice lunch box prepared for you. On the second morning of our stay, we had the pleasure to meet Jacobo, the Air Canada Vacations rep which was very friendly, yet professional, and he provided us with all the essential information we needed. He quickly gained our confidence and without any pressure or sales pitches, we decided to book a day-long tour to the one of the 7 wonders of the world: Chichen Itza. It turned out to be a wonderful unique experience and the best tour we ever had. Do yourselves a favour and if you do decide to book this tour, ask for PATTY13, the tour operator that has Jose and Patricia as your guides. Jose was our super talented guide (for the English speaking group) and besides the awe inspiring objectives visited, he was the star of the trip, keeping all of us entertained with his hilarious style but also fascinated by a blend of stories and historical facts. A quick note: should you decide to bring your passport on this tour, you’ll have the opportunity of having it stamped with a special mark depicting the temple of Chichen Itza that proves you have visited one of the Seven Wonders of the World. I do realize it is a very long review, but writing just a simple phrase wouldn’t do justice and would also be unfair to ALL the friendly, polite and hard working staff that have contributed to an enjoyable and quite memorable week-long stay at Nyx Cancun. A big Thank You to all and we can’t wait to return here on our next vacation !

Good resort

Although we did not get the room we booked, this resort was clean and the staff aimed to please. The staff on the beach were amazing and made sure we were well looked after. The restaurants were underwhelming, especially for Mexico.Also not everything on the al la carte menus were included which was disappointing. I can understand an upcharge for lobster or certain cuts of steak, but for pasta dishes and cocktails not to be included was very disappointing.

Great resort

Nyx hotel Cancun is smaller resort in the hotel district, very clean grounds, rooms are clean and modern, if you get a room on the lagoon side it can be noisy with traffic noise very busy road, the food is fantastic lots of variety and the drinks did not disappoint the staff are helpful and friendly there are a few flights of steps from the main lobby bar area to get down the main pool and beach

Nice resort

The resort was nice- the beach and pool were good and the location was great too (close to the La Isla mall). The food was okay (I wish there was better dinner options but you can go off resort to a nice taco restaurant). Front staff could have been better- never received a tour of the hotel.

Amazing resort

Had another great week at NYX resort as we were there 5 years ago. Its a small quaint resort with a beautiful beach, 3 great restaurants and super friendly and helpful staff ... a special shout out to Maike at the front desk who went above and beyond to make our stay super memorable.

Lovely Resort

We booked a Master Suite to get a glass railing on our balcony and are glad we did. The hoterl is lovely and well kept. Maintenance crews are always working to keep things ship shape. The location is great being close to the Isla Mall. The staff are very friendly always ready to help. The cleaning lady was the best, always having our room cleaned and made up while we were down for breakfast. The food is amazing, especially the Italian and Japanese restaurants. The only issue I had was at the spa [... read more] where I tried their Thermal cycling treatment which consists of a warm rain shower, a steam room and a cold shower. The problem was, the steam room runs at over 200 F so after a couple of minutes, I felt unwell and came close to passing out. I guess the other thing to note is the large amount of stairs in the hotel that you have to navigate to get anywhere you are going. Fine for the younger crowd but not so good when you are 70! But all in all, we loved our stay....in spite of the storm that kept us off the beach for our entire week, but that isn't the fault of the hotel.

Fantastic hotel nyx

Well greeted as we arrived. Food is fantastic. The rooms are clear entertainment was very fun. Beach service was excellent. We were there 4 times and we are going back for our fifth fantastic little hotel.

Amazing Service

Excellent room, ocean view . Great service on the beach from Julio. The Deck beautiful location by the ocean with many options of good food and wine. Italian and Japanese top notch. Thanks 3rd visit and Planning return trip next Year !

Great

Food, drink, service, pool and beach area exceptional ? All the restaurant were great. On the negative side, if you reserve a regular room, well it’s a flip of a coin, we where 3 couple, some got a decent room, some got a pretty weird room, like no doors for the bathroom, some rooms are in a kind of basement. When you check inn to the resort, they offer you a bunch of upgrade for the rooms, now we understand ? But even with the rooms situation, this resort is still one of the best I’ve been t [... read more]o, and the room were very clean and the price was great. Thanks to the great staffs for a great time. We would go back for sure with a little upgrade for the rooms.

Second time there.

I thought the hotel. NYX was very clean. Very well, keep up the people were always trying to help you. Service was Excellent Staff was very well Front desk always willing to help. Food is excellent. The beach was very nice, very well kept up. Looking forward to going back next year.

2nd trip to NYX

Out of 5 stars, I give it 6! Fantastic service, the staff are excellent and always happy to help you. The hotel is beautiful and perfectly located, the food is always fresh and very good, we can't wait to go back!

Excellent Hotel

Hotel NYX was great. Excellent staff, food and the Master Suite was beautiful. I have been to Mexico 13 times and this was by far the best food and staff I have encountered. I will plan to return. Great entertainment team as well.

Great Resort But....

It is small but well maintained. There are a lot of stairs but everything is easily accessible. Upon check in we were not told that there was an Air Canada Rep on level 2 until the last day when we inquired on our check out time. Also, on check in we occurred 3 x $32.00 for Environmental fees that we were not made aware of when booking the trip or when received the tickets. So that was an expense that took away from our excursions because we had three rooms to accommodate everyone. Also, the [... read more]y knew we were a group and never even tried to get us close together we were all over the place on the resort. The food is also great and the beach is smaller now compared to our stay in 2008.

BUDGET RESORT

It is an ok place, staff is trying hard. So many things that need to be improved though-not enough chairs around pool, beach; long wait for meals; too many stairs for people with mobility issues; shower and sinks not draining; entertainment lacking...many more to list. I would personally not return.

Amazing!!!!

This hotel is a hidden gem!!! We had an ocean view room which was huge! The beds were extremely comfortable. I travel quite a lot and I can honestly say that the food and drinks were the best that I have had. Only breakfast is buffet style and the rest of the time are a-la-carte restaurants. The only negative is the beach chair situation. There are just not enough of them and they are all taken by 6:30 in the morning.

Worst experience

When we arrived we were informed that our all inclusive wasn’t actually all inclusive. We could upgrade for an additional 50$ a day per person. The drinks were terrible almost as though significantly watered down. Your not allowed to take food to your room - because that’s not included and they want to charge you more. The food was actually terrible. Don’t stay at this resort. I’m fact avoid cancun is our advice.

Memorable Honeymoon

A very well needed vacation at NYX hotel which exceeded every one of our expectations! The hotel staff is what makes this place truly magical. Everyone from the front desk to staff by the restaurant are so pleasant and kind. Our room was on the 4th floor and because of my partner’s disability we asked to be moved somewhere more accessible. We got upgraded to a much bigger room in the main building. Had the pleasure of eating at the Italian and Umami restaurant. Both were excellent. Night Enter [... read more]tainment was pretty good, although It was a bit crammed at the lobby. Buffet breakfast was excellent. lunch is not buffet style and served by the staff. Dinner was the best part as it changed every night. Many Special thanks to all the staff specially Miguel and Ifran by the lobby, Chef Roberto from at umami restaurant(very humorous and funny), Estafan from the Italian restaurant, Ruben at the Deck, and many more which I can’t remember the names right now. Thank you NYX for these amazing memories and a perfect honeymoon!

Very nice resort

It is a very beautiful resort. Booked a ‘regular’ room and we were offered an upgrade when we arrived. We looked at the room we booked first. It was a small dark room (no windows) a double bed and a dresser. Needless to say we took the upgrade. We were then moved to a beautiful suite. We had a living room, separate bedroom, 2 bathrooms and a wonderful balcony. The hotel staff were following a strict covid protocol. They all wore 1-2 masks and they sanitized guests hands upon entering the r [... read more]estaurants. All menus were available thru QR code The restaurants were nice. I appreciated that this resort only has 1 buffet and that’s for breakfast. All restaurants are sit down with wait staff. We went to the Italian restaurant and it was fine. However Umami (the Japanese restaurant) was amazing. However it is important to note this resort is NOT accessible. It was 51 stairs between our room and the pool. There are more stairs to the beach

Very nice Hotel

This hotel is great.....the pool, the beach, the foods are EXCELLENT. The room is very clean, the service is super and everyone say Hello with a big smile, they are always happy to see you. It was my second time there and it is still very good !!!!!

Amazing Resort

NYX Hotel was definitely a very nice choice to make as our getaway! The entire Staff are very cordial and make you very comfortable! The COVID protocols are maintained by wearing masks inside and staff wear them the entire time, indoors and out! They do their Buffet by you going up and choose what you want and they serve you. We found that saved on a lot of food going to waste. The food at this Hotel is OUTSTANDING!!
