We did a girl's getaway at this resort in The Diamond Club. Let me start by saying that the short drive from the airport to this resort was AMAZING. No two hour drive to the Mayan area. Having been to several resorts in the past, I do have to say that the Royalton Riviera is in the top two when it comes to the overall experience. The rooms are large, beautiful and always very clean. There are so many pools and they are all beautiful and clean. We loved the three pools in our area the most. We me[... read more]t and spoke to so many people from all around the world. Loved, loved the atmosphere in the Diamond Club.
The grounds are well kept and we rarely saw any bugs, not a single bee at any of the bars. The staff in the pool area and the restaurants were always so kind and went out of their way to make us feel special. A huge shout-out to our bar tenders, Oscar and Emanuel, to our towel boy Juan and to a wonderful server in the Buffet named Oscar.
With the cost of food these days, we expected to be disappointed but instead, we were very impressed with the quality of the food in the buffet and most restaurants. We did not enjoy the Caribbean or Steakhouse restaurants. The Italian and Japanese restaurants are a must. For lunches, the buffet is open as well as a few restaurants like the Italian in the Family section. They also have food trucks at each pool section. They were practical but I prefer a lunch restaurant by the pools.
We had premium drinks at the Diamond Club lounge and pools and a large bottle of Baileys and wine in our room, as well as beer, juice and pop in our mini fridge. All the bartenders made us amazing drinks throughout the week and treated us like royalty.
Unfortunately, the beach was unusable because of the algae and the smell coming from the ocean. I am not a beach person but I do like to walk the beach in the evenings. But our biggest disappointment was the entertainment both during the day and in the evening. There were no obstacle courses or fun games like I have experienced in the past. The entertainment staff was small. They had simple games like Bingo and water polo but did have 2 short foam parties in the main pool twice in a week. At night, they had a few fun evenings such as The White party and the Karaoke night but most other nights we were very disappointed. Even the shows that seemed to be hired externally were very short and not the best (Micheal Jackson, Mexican, Fire Show). I did hear from a few other guests that since the rise in the costs of living, many resorts chose to cut costs mostly in the entertainment department so as to not affect other departments such as food, cleanliness and hospitality.
We are 4 middle aged woman who have been to many resorts. We made every day count by interacting with staff and other guests. We all found the Royalton to be probably the most beautiful resort we have been to, we enjoyed the food (not bland like most resorts), we spent a lot of our vacation in the pools, did a few excursions not too far away and simply had a wonderful week in the sun. We definitely recommend vacationing at this resort.

Very good resort. Just thought the beach was very disapointing.
Just one down fall. The rooms are far from the main areas.
.We went to lay on the beach, very windy lots of seaweed. i wish we could have spent time at the beach. Would go at different time of year.
Otherwise overall it was worth it.

Beautiful resort with lots to do!
The Royalton Riviera Cancun is a beautiful resort with lots of things to do. The staff are very kind and the grounds are well maintained. The basic rooms are comfortable, but don’t expect too many frills. The Al La carte restaurants book up, so you need to book them the moment you arrive and get on wifi, otherwise you won’t get in to any.

Was a good resort
We had a nice time, service was a little lacking and drinks took long. The room was nice but the jacuzzi tub on the rooftop didn't work so what was the point of having it.
The main hallways of the hotel were quite dirty and it was hard to get pool chairs if you were not down by 6am.

Gorgeous and Delicious
This beautiful resort is on a stunning stretch of beach, and if the ocean isn't your thing, there are so many pools! The food everywhere is great - at the buffet, the themed restaurants, even the poolside food trucks. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the whole place is just lovely. Our room was spacious and very comfortable.
If I had one complaint it would be the evening entertainment. The evening shows are held outside by the main pool. There is not enough seating to accommodate every[... read more]one and the shows themselves are difficult to watch while standing. In other resorts there are cultural, comedy and music shows to watch after dinner in a separate theatre, and often a disco-like space for dancing and drinking until late. If you enjoy this kind of late-night vibe, we didn't find it here.
We did take a couple of excursions which were amazing. Catamaran trips to Isla Mujeres, cultural tours of Mayan ruins and other trips are available at reasonable rates. We really enjoyed our week!

Royalton Riviera Cancun – Not Senior Friendly
I stayed at Royalton Riviera Cancun with my family, and my experience was very disappointing.
We were placed on the 4th floor, and the elevators were not working most of the time. I have knee pain, and going up and down the stairs daily caused me significant discomfort and pain. There was no assistance offered, and staff showed little concern for my situation.
Customer service throughout the resort was poor and unhelpful.[... read more] Requests were ignored, and there was a general lack of care and hospitality.
For a resort that claims to be luxury and all-inclusive, it was not senior-friendly and did not accommodate guests with mobility issues.
I would not recommend this hotel, especially for elderly guests or anyone with knee or mobility problems.

Royalton Riviera Cancun – Extremely Disappointing Experience
This was our first time booking a 10-day all-inclusive stay, and unfortunately it was the worst vacation experience we have ever had.
Our trip started poorly even before arriving. Our flight from Toronto was delayed four hours due to maintenance. We were given $15 meal vouchers for our party of five (two rooms), but three of the vouchers did not work at Toronto Pearson Airport. I had to repeatedly stand in[... read more] line at Guest Services to have them reissued, only for them to fail again. This was extremely embarrassing and stressful, especially since my children were hungry and exhausted. I ultimately had to pay out of pocket.
When we finally arrived at the resort late at night, the experience did not improve.
• Long check-in lines
• No welcome drinks
• No bell service
• No assistance with luggage
• No one showed us to our rooms
The customer service was very poor.
The most serious issue happened the day after arrival. After dining at the ZEN restaurant, I became extremely nauseous and dizzy. Later that night, I woke up to vomit in the hallway, slipped, and hit the back of my head hard, losing consciousness. I was disoriented and could not recognize my surroundings or family for several minutes. My husband had to lift me and put me back into bed.
The hotel’s emergency response was slow and careless.
• The doctor and manager took a long time to arrive
• No ice was provided for my head
• No urgency or compassion was shown
Eventually, an ambulance took me to the hospital. At the hospital, instead of immediate care, the focus was repeatedly on how much I had to pay before tests could begin. After testing, there was very little explanation or care provided.
When I was discharged, we called the hotel multiple times requesting pickup — no one answered. We had to take a taxi back to the resort for $80 USD.
When we returned to our room, the vomit on the wall and beside the bed had not been cleaned, even though room service had supposedly been done. Shockingly, five days later, when the hotel manager finally checked on me, the mess was still there.
To make matters worse, the hotel manager later came to my room asking me to sign papers in exchange for a Bali bed ($180 value). The paperwork included language stating I would not sue or leave a negative review. I refused to sign.
Additional issues during our stay:
• Elevators were out of service about 90% of the time
• We were on the 4th floor with an elderly parent who has knee pain
• Constantly carrying a wagon up and down stairs
• Excessive mosquitoes
• Overall lack of care and accountability
This resort failed in basic customer service, cleanliness, safety, and emergency handling. For a property that markets itself as luxury and all-inclusive, this experience was deeply disappointing and unacceptable.
I would not recommend Royalton Riviera Cancun to families or anyone expecting proper care, safety, and hospitality.

Royalton riviera cancun
Everything was great, the room, staff, service.
Perhaps they could have a smoking section by the pools.
You could smell the smoke from a few guests smoking by the pool.
I would go again if there is very little or no seaweed. We like swimming in the ocean and we were not able to this time. The water was brown.
The pools were great, and we enjoyed them.

Disappointed
Once we finally got into our room we asked 4 times for extra bedding. The day I took it of a housekeeping cart. The resort shows no compassion with anybody with a non-visible disability! My six year-old autistic, grandson lost his bracelet We searched for it with no success. Explained the situation and we’re still required to pay $150 US replacement.

Nice resort but definitely not a five star
I stayed at this resort from March 31st to April 7th. I do believe in doing reviews as i do use them to determine if i want to go to them.
THE GOOD- simple, easy check in and out, nice property and close to the airport to reduce your bus time (both to and from). I was upgraded to ground floor with swim out area but didn't use. I felt the swim area was not practical for our use. Also too close to your neighbor so no real privacy if you wanted it. Buffet was very large and lots of variety[... read more] of foods which i consider standard to most other resorts. The service and staff in the buffet was very good. Not sure if many people tip the staff but they do a very good job.
THE BAD - the terrible smell in most areas is present. i did see this in previous reviews but not sure what causes this. It also appeared in the buffet on one side. Pool chairs and umbrellas is a serious problem. This is a problem for most of the day as this resort does not manage towels with towel cards. You can get as many towels as you want and reserve chairs in various areas. I did notice that many of the chairs next to us were never used but had towels placed on them early in the morning. This seems to be a problem in most resorts but more noticeable at this one. I did walk to the Diamond Club pool and Hideaway adult area and it seemed very crowded and also no chairs available early in the day. It was very windy all week so there were not many people at the beach. There were many chairs available which explains the crowded pools and lack of chairs. As this is a very large hotel, i am not sure if this problem goes away. The process for booking the A la carts is very disappointing. this is done by using an App on your phone and really doesn't work. When i tried to book, my option was for dinner at the steak house at 9 or 9:30pm. Really doesn't work for me. When i walked by the Hunter steak house the next day, i asked a staff member that was outside the restaurant (it is a buffet in the morning as well) the nice lady said only bookings can be done by the app. An employee that was at a guest services stand near by stopped me and asked me what my problem was. When i explained to him that the booking process for meals sucks, he made a call and booked me in for dinner that night at 6:30pm for 2 of us. When i asked how this could happen, he explained to me the Prime Resort sellers get some bookings for people that they can offer the "time share" features for. I did make it clear that i would never get involved in this offering. I did end up going to dinner that night and it was good but not great.
I also was disappointed with the bartenders at the pool area i stayed at, as the service was not very good for a so called "5 STAR" resort. At times, there was only one bartender working which made no sense based on the number of people at or in the pool. Also I did ask specifically for Canadian Club Whiskey many times and it was never provided. I do think that this resort wants to push the cheap drinks to guests and save money. I did find out that this resort is shutting down in the summer for renovations but i felt the property was acceptable, but not the service. I have stayed at a 5 star Royalton before but can confirm this is not one. I was also offered the Royalton Prime program but ended that conversation very quickly as i don't believe in making a commitment to a "time share program" that makes it difficult to terminate.
I am not sure I would give this resort another try down the road.

Very good overall, but a few minor issues....
The hotel and property are quite nice and well maintained. No concerns with cleanliness or safety. But I do have a couple of comments about things that could definitely be improved.
1. Beach chairs and pool side seating: it seems that the ratio of people to available seating is way too high. You end up with people "reserving" lounges with towels at 7 am, and then not showing up to use them until several hours later, despite signage stating that chairs can't be reserved. This should be policed b[... read more]y resort staff, and not left to individuals to work out. We were involved in one confrontation caused by this.
2. Restaurant reservations: we had a group of 10, and it was impossible to get a reservation unless you got on the app at 12:01 am. And then go the restaurant which is fully booked, only to find that it's half empty. I saw this several times.
Other than those things, it was very nice.

Loved this resort!
We really enjoyed our stay, nothing bad to say about this resort the staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Was Very clean lots of choices for food that was absolutely amazing! And the 24/7 room service was a bonus. I rated the beach a 4 only because of the seaweed but the resort works continually trying to remove it.

A big deception for us
Many issues :
-Base sewage odors inside the room, bathroom and outside the patio I couldnt sit down there and I can't put my clothes to dry.
-My face and son's completely changed . (iritation and pimples) I never had any skin problems. We both came with clear skin.We had stomach aches and diarhee.
-My son's eyes got burned
-I falled down due to negligence the roof was leaking and there was no signage. I still have back pain
We request a full refund as it was a disaster. We did not enjo[... read more]y our vacation and found the hotel not honest at all.

Great resort
you have a beautiful resort there, but the thing is there is too many steps going up into something or going down into something like by the martini bar that step that goes up there is very dangerous. I seen so many people fall there and I was one of them, unfortunately and I have the huge bruises to prove it. My hip is so sore.
I would like to say I wouldn’t recommend it to seniors, but I seen younger people falling as well. Very dangerous even your staff said it was dangerous.

Best Family Vacation!!!!
This resort far exceeded our expectations!!! We were a group of 8 ranging in age from 8-68 and the resort had something for everyone! The resort was gorgeous, well maintained, had tons of activities and the food was awesome! The buffet had almost every food imaginable. We definitely did not go hungry!
Some reviewers have complained about the resort being outdated. There are some areas that are currently under renovation (Feb 2025) but it did not impact our stay at all. Overall, the property[... read more] is gorgeous! Our only word of caution is the pressure to attend a 90 minute presentation about the Royalton membership program. It’s NOT 90 minutes and unless you are interested in a membership program, don’t waste your time like we did.
A special shout out to Erick who helped make our stay so enjoyable. The sea turtle and cenote tour we booked through the resort was also incredible.
Overall, we LOVED this resort and would highly recommend it. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Would not recommend
Honestly, don't go here. The customer service is beyond horrible. The resort is pretty clean, but overall experience wasn't great.
We went for my brothers 40th birthday, and the first day we arrived they said they would provide him with a complimentary cake and champagne on his actual birthday. They never did this. So I went back to customer service and politely told them they didn't bring the cake and champagne, and now that his birthday had passed there was no need to do it but I wanted them [... read more]to know they dropped the ball. The man apologized and said he would make sure they delivered the cake and champagne the following night - guess what? They forgot again. The people working there are not helpful, a little rude. The cleaning staff is nice. Our room was clean but when we first arrived there was not a single towel in our room, or garbage can, the remote's batteries were dead, no steamer in the steamer basket. I called and they brought me all the items (except the steamer, we never got this) but not a good first impression. The app is horrible, so good luck trying to make dinner reservations. It's always missing certain activities on the app, but we would walk by the main pool and see something going on, but it wasn't listed in the app. Anyway, overall I'm glad my brother had a good time but I wouldn't go back to this resort.

Don’t waste your money or time
I was really hoping this would be a great place to go despite all the negative reviews. Well wrong!! The reviews are bang on. I thought pre booking our room in the Diamond Club area and trying to stay clear of the negative feedback I was hearing would be good! Wrong!! After paying 100$ US to pre book our room, we waited to leave for our 2 week vacation. We finally arrive and the airport was a breeze so yay!! We get to the hotel and arrive in our room building 6 only to listen to the grinding an[... read more]d welding of the metal structure right beside us. We listen to this for 3 days with no end in sight. We listened to it all hours. We finally asked to be moved and they accommodate us to building 4 and OMG the smell!! It was coming out of the shower drain and all you could smell was something I would compare to cat pee or animal pee. The more the shower was on the stronger the smell. We asked to move to another room and they let us see the room above us only to go inside and run the shower and BANG!! There is the smell. The manger of the resort came to the room and you could see by the look on his face that he can smell it as well. There is a definite problem with this resort. Not to forget to mention the gas lighting for time shares and how they want you to attend the presentation and then you will get your hotel credits to use. The Royalton app only works when they want it to work!! I thought all the reviews could be wrong but they are not!! Please check your reviews before booking this resort. The food was good but this resort is very busy. Thank goodness for our waiter at the Hunter steak house, we had a reservation every night. We made sure we made it worth his time to save us a time slot for dinner every night. He was amazing. We opted not to use the butlers that were assigned for us as they were not helpful to us at all. We paid the fridge stock staff to keep up with the coffee pods as they would only give 1 or 2 a day. So he would stock up for us and we tipped him well. There was so many staff there trying to sell time shares or trying to get you to go to the presentation. I wanted to be at a resort with my spouse for some R & R since we work hard and saved a long time to go to this resort. I will not ever return to this place. Don’t waste your time or your money here. Pick a different place. Also the Hideaway side had the same smell! We are not picky people. We just wanted a place to relax!!
