Will return but won’t take the Preferred package as it wasn’t worth it. The Beach is amazing but people with mobility issues will struggle to get in and out of sea due to steep sandbank. Pools weren’t very clean and didn’t pass my sniff test (they didn’t smell like chlorine). The World Buffet had amazing food but atmosphere temp was too hot. No A/C nor ceiling fans. Stifling hot inside with ovens and grills going.

Great Place for R&R
Beautiful, clean and elegant…this resort employs people who really care about your vacation experience. The beds are comfortable, the rooms spacious and clean. Wide variety of restaurants to choose from depending on your mood…24 hour coffee shop for drinks and snacks too! Everywhere you looked, staff were busy maintaining the beautiful grounds or power washing the walkways. Lots of entertainment if you want it or quiet spaces if not. Live music at the lobby bar every night if you wanted to have[... read more] a nightcap. Lots to do for the kiddies as well, water play area and different planned activities nightly…something for everyone!

Beautiful resort with food handling problems
The resort itself is very beautiful and clean. The pools were always clean and inviting. Our room was also very lovely. our problems begin with a severe sickness after eating at the Portofino restaurant. I had shrimp on my Caesar salad and it was very ill the next day.

Great Family Vacation
Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the resort. The beach is fantastic and the staff are welcoming and very friendly. It was worth the extra money to enjoy the amenities of the Preferred Club. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Wonderful time at Dreams Dominicus
We stayed as Preferred guests. Definitely worth it to stay under the palapas in the preferred beach area.
Having a butler to meet all your needs is a bonus as well.
The beach is 10/10. White sand and clear calm water.
The food was very good. Loved the idea of no reservation needed for restaurants. The buffet had a lot of choices. The beef was a bit tough but otherwise all meals well prepared and presented.
Quite a few bars with lots of drink choices.
Overall definitely recommend this r[... read more]esort over many others I stayed at in Punta Cana.

Beautiful but a little messy
We really liked so much about this resort. The only problem was that our kids both got sick (presumably food poisoning) on day three, then I got sick (again assumed food poisoning) on day five. So all of that put a big damper on our vacation and we had to miss all of our excursions.

Amazingly clean resort
Employees were everywhere, ensuring that everything was clean. Before entering any restaurant, guests were given hand sanitizer. The beach sand was white and the water turquoise.
In the deeper water, they had sunk a line of large concrete reef balls, used to grow coral and attract fish. Every day that I snorkelled, I noticed different fish. One is able to walk a long stretch of beach, but every beach has a hotel established on the property.
If you don't have a tolerance for loud music,[... read more] played until 11, be sure to ask for a quiet room.
I particularly like the Italian restaurant. The service was excellent, and the food was very good.

One of the best beaches in La Romana
We have just retuned from Dreams La Romana listed as an almost 5 star hotel from Preferred Club .It is not a 5 star hotel and the Preferred is not worth paying for especially if you are placed across the street in a different building with a noisy street in between the Dreams main resort which is almost a cute village crossed in the middle by a giant pool.
Thank you first of all to our butler, a dedicated caring lovely Kiss who has done daily everything in her power to make our stay enjoyable. [... read more]Thank you also to Maximo who was always there to help us with transportation back and forth to the preferred beach. You rock both. The resort is big enough and spread on a large area leading to a wonderful beach: clean, calm vawes, no seaweed. Communication in the resort is difficult as most people do not entirely understand or speak English or French. The food makes this resort a 3 star unfortunately with cold mushy food, minimal choices and no ice cream in buffets:3 days after returning home :we are still treating ourselves with digestive pills to get through the day.
Thank you to animation team who did an amazing job and to our maid Rosa who has done an awesome job also keeping our room clean.
We are beach lovers and didn't touch any pools but the sea.
Rules in the A la carte restos make no sense especially that it is not a 5 star hotel with no 5 star services: wear sleeves on your shirt for dinner in the preferred patio, wear long pants and no open toe sandals in the French resto.

Wonderful resort , best beach and water
We’ve been pleasantly surprised by our stay in Dreams Dominicus La Romana! The room was a great find—spacious, with two bathrooms and two floors, which made it extra comfortable. The beach is simply amazing, and having good coffee available anytime was a real treat (Coco Cafe). The resort itself is well-kept and enjoyable.
The food is average, but we were never hungry—there’s always something to eat. Overall, it was a happy and relaxing stay, and we’d gladly come back!

An excellent resort!
Our group of 2 families (4 adults and 3 youth) had a wonderful stay here for 9 days in mid-March.
I have a lot of positive things to say about this resort, beginning with the Entertainment Staff. A big reason why we enjoyed this resort was Jerry. Jerry is an absolute delight and one of the highlights of our stay. He involved my 12- and 15-year-old boys in the games and activities throughout our entire stay. Always friendly and welcoming, smiling, dancing and entertaining! He even got my 15-yea[... read more]r-old son to dance! In addition to Jerry, other entertainers - Champion, Chicken Boy, El Baby added to the fun. Champion’s auction at the beach was another highlight!
The staff all around was great – from housekeeping to pool/lobby bar, dining and towel staff. A shoutout to Marcelo at the pool bar for his positive and fun energy!
Room was one of the nicest we have had at a resort, spacious and clean. Towel service was also excellent. No need for towel cards and the towels were always fresh and clean.
A La Carte restaurants were excellent – no reservations was a huge bonus, and we never waited more than a few minutes for a table.
Coco Café was great to have on resort – my husband and I went here for our morning coffees every day. Barefoot Grille at the beach was also great – pizzas were excellent for a midday snack.
The shows were entertaining – especially the Water and Circus shows.
Beach is beautiful – turquoise water and white sand. While not a challenge to get chairs at the beach, lack of shade was a bit of an issue. One of my only complaints is that those who pay for Preferred Club get better access to shade.
My only other complaint was the lack of activity post-11pm. And that’s saying something for someone who normally goes to sleep at 10pm! Some musical entertainment until midnight would be a nice addition. And while there is a sports bar and disco across from the a la carte restaurants, these were not well-publicized and therefore nobody seemed to go to them. The same holds true for the teen club (which my kids used but they were the only ones there).
All in all, an excellent stay at an excellent resort, thanks to Jerry and the rest of the entertainment staff.

Dreams Dominicus La Romana
We travelled as a group of 5 adults to celebrate a milestone birthday and had stayed at other Dreams locations previously so had an idea of what to expect. We also booked as Preferred Club.
Pros:
The beach and ocean were great, a little more waves than usual for La Romana but we had unsettled weather during the week so that's to be expected. The bar service on the beach was great, the girls came by frequently are were very friendly. We booked a cabana for a day and had a lovely day wit[... read more]h wonderful service.
Our room was a Master Swimout Suite in building 62. The room was lovely, spacious and I especially loved the alcove patio and sun beds. Very close to the beach and restaurants. Mini bar was restocked every day.
Cons:
The room location was very noisy. The pathway between our swimout pool and the building next to us (60 I believe) is constantly used by hotel staff as a general walkway to and from the main areas. There is constant foot traffic, housekeeping carts, service carts and golf carts rattling back and forth over the cobbles. Unfortunate because its the perfect spot for an afternoon siesta but you won't get the peace and quiet to actually have the siesta.
The room was also beside the main entertainment square with the stage about 50 feet from our bedroom door. No hope for a quiet nightcap on the patio or an early night after a long day of travelling. The shows went to about 10:30 - 11:00 pm.
The room also had cockroaches. They did spray the room a couple of times and I didn't see as many afterwards.
The restaurants were hit and miss. We ate at all the restaurants including the buffet. Some dishes were quite good and others were close to inedible but mostly it was just okay. One thing I noticed across all restaurants is the heavy use of salt in their dishes. The food was plentiful and portions were generous. It was a challenge on a few occasions with the language barrier but that's not uncommon in the DR. The staff though tried really hard to please the guests and we had a great time with the majority. They went all out for my husbands birthday both at the buffet at breakfast and at the French restaurant for dinner.
Our Butler Gustavo is a gem. Such a genuinely nice guy that takes pride in his work. I cannot say enough good things about him. He checked in with us every morning, made reservations, decorated our room and made my husbands birthday special.
Would we return to Dreams Dominicus? No we wouldn't but we still had an enjoyable vacation.

Very good stay
Dreams Dominicus is very good vacation spot with crustal clear warm water and very nice amenities, buildings, and rooms.
I have to say, the service was 5 stars. I have requested additional towels, I got them within 10 minutes (!)
Gym is new, sparkly clean with nice equipment. Yoga teacher Casie made my days!
The only thing that was really not 5 stars was the food. I would give it 4 stars maximum. It was not bad, but just not on the level of this hotel.
The hotel is small, I lik3d that. But i[... read more]f you like to walk, it is not for you. The sea is shallow, but you can swim. An the water is so warm! The pools are nice and clean. The only thing I did not like very much becide of food was the crowded beach. The beach chairs in the Preffered section were placed so close to each other, you could not pass in between. So, people were lying too close to each other. Because of that I gave 4 stars to beach. It did not have very bad impact to our stay.
We had very good vacation, thank you tripcantral!

Great times at Dreams!
We went to Dreams Dominicus La Romana for our Honeymoon and had a great time! This is resort is low key and relaxing. The staff were so kind and helpful. The food was excellent. We especially loved the buffet and Italian restaurant (Portofino). They had great gluten free options at all meals, and the a la carte restaurants clearly labelled the gluten free options. We went during September and it was not very busy - we never waited for the restaurant and were always able to find a lawn chair. The[... read more] beach was absolutely gorgeous - we watched beautiful sunsets and there was zero seaweed.

Lovely vacation for all the family!
Great beach with clear water and little to no algae. Enjoyed the kayaking. A variety of pools that were well suited for young children and not too busy. Food was varied and good. We loved the easy accessibility to the restaurants with no limits or reservations needed. Lots of positive attention for the three little ones. Grounds and rooms were very clean and well-maintained. The three- and seven-year old enjoyed the kids' club. We did not choose the Preferred Club as we did not feel it was worth[... read more] it for us. The one negative was the lack of sufficient shade on the beach. Also, the recommendation I would make is to advertise the Kids' Club and their activities, possibly as you do the adult activities. I informed a few people I met about it after they complained there was nothing for the kids.

Great resort
2nd time at this resort it did not disappoint.
There are some minor things have changed since COVID as the hotel may be cutting back to save on expenses. The only item that I didn’t like was that the Pool towels are no longer readily available on pool chairs or on stands. You now have to pick them up from a towel hut and you can only get one per person after they verify your room number.
Food was good we stayed at the preferred club and really enjoyed the food and service at the beach [... read more]restaurant.
Room was clean however we did not get the preferred club amenities despite having paid for preferred.
Beach is great the the pools are beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay and will return.

Amazing Resort. Dreams Dominicus in La Romana is the best resort we have been so far. Everything was perfect. Room, food, entertainments, drinks… most impressive things was the cleanliness of the resort and in particularly the rooms. We will definitely recommend.

Ok resort
We were at the preferred club part and the beach was nice but if not for that the beach on the other side was crowded and no shade.
We had booked a room with pool view and did not honour that when we got there.
Rooms were cleaned late in the day and not cleaned on 2 days of our 7 day stay.
Food was overall good and so were drinks. Service on the beach was terrible bringing us warm bear and leaving it there with the lid on the bottle.

Dream Dominicus - La Romana DR
The Dreams Dominicus is a very nice and well maintained property. Our room was really nice. We had room 64-103, which included our own pool. The beach was pretty good but certianly had some rocks under the water and you tend to find them the hard way...by walking into them. I really think Dreams should tell people about them. Otherwise the beach was great but a small beach front..
We upgraded to the preferred club as that is the only area that has palapas, however the cabana beds are at the fro[... read more]nt row so it does block the view of the ocean.
The food and restaurant were very good. Service was also very good.
The main issue we did not like at all was the upselling they do...
1. They really tried hard to get us to sit in on a 90 minute chat about timeshares. We actually had to get angry with a girl and her supervisor as they were pushing really hard. Finally I had a enough and told them to leave us alone
2. At some of the restaurants your given a "wine list" to purchase wine and they don't really explain there is also house wine available...
3. They constant ask you if you want a massage or romantic dinner.
I think they need to stop doing this.
So overall, we had a nice vacation.

Nice to Travel Again......
Dreams Dominicus La Romana is a beautiful , immaculate & spacious resort approximately 1 hour drive away from the hotel. The grounds and gardens are well manicured and preserved. The best part of the Dominican Republic to me has always and will always be the Dominican people. Their warmth, kindness and engaging nature is infectious. Needless to say, the staff in all areas (i.e. Bellman team, housekeeping , dining, car, front desk, customer service kiosk, etc.) were all extremely attentive an[... read more]d dedicated to making our stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
The hotel room was spacious, clean and well lad out. Our housekeeper, Ramona was fantastic and provided service with a smile. The mini fridge was always topped up, we had fresh towels daily and hot water was never an issue.
We did not take in a lot of evening shows but the Circus show was spectacular and reminiscent of Cirque de Soleil.
Food was okay both at the buffet and A La Cartes. The staff work as a team to ensure your needs are met in the dining room and tips while appreciated are not expected. We tipped accordingly. Yesenia was a stand out in the World Cafe for us. No reservations necessary, they are all first come, first served. The Japanese restaurant appeared to be particularly popular, given the long lines but we did not attend. We did go to the Seafood Grill & the Italian restaurant which were both okay. Dreams offers room service with a menu to choose from. It usually takes around 45 minutes from the time of order to the time of delivery. It should be noted that menus are different to ones previously posted online from travellers and that you will need to take your phone with you to access menus via QR codes at both the restaurants & a channel on your t.v. You can also have lunch on the pier as long as there are no events going on.
Drinks / Bar - readily available and served with a smile with the exception of one miserable male bartender at the beach bar & grill who didn't seem too eager to fill our Bubba mugs, even though it would mean fewer visits from us and no one would have to make sure we cleaned up after ourselves.
The Spa was gorgeous and clean. We had massages which we enjoyed and then were given 1 hour in the hydrotherapy section where you could find a Jacuzzi, pool and cold pool on the roof so you still had access to the sunshine and fresh air.
The beach was not to our standard and a little disappointing, in that, it was unkempt and a lot of erosion had taken place. There was a lot of seaweed and rock at the base in front of the hotel, as you entered the ocean. A problem that could easily be resolved by having a crew attend to this every morning. It definitely does not look like it does in the picture. However, once you waded into the water it was warm and reasonably clear. We found it more enjoyable to walk a short distance towards Catalonia hotel and enter the ocean there as it would appear as though they cleared their section of the beach. It was also notable that there was a divide between "preferred guests" (paid upgrade) area & the commoner section. They had a security guard monitoring the area. Loungers in both sections were much closer than we would have liked if the hotel was fully booked. We observed that towels were laid out on all loungers in the "preferred guest" section to give the illusion that it was busier than it was, and collected at the end of the day. Beach towels were handed out according to preferred guests versus commoners. No difference in the access to the beach, only lounge chairs / cabana like structures.
Souvenir shops were available on site and market vendors were present on two of the seven nights we were there. There's also a vendor market on the beach if you go left of the pier.
Saona Catarman Tour - there were two options for two different prices. one was $80 U.S & the other was $90 US. We opted for the latter taking in Blue Lagoon Beach (which includes lunch), Natural Pool & Saona Island. The crew was entertaining and lots of music en route. Our favourite stop was the Natural Pool, we could have stayed there the entire day and been happy. Deep Lagoon was a nice beach. Saona was a disappointing due to lots of beach shoreline erosion.
Air Canada Terminal @ Pearson International - we arrived early given the horror stories we had heard from others about getting through security in the post COVID era. Thankfully, we had checked in online and only had to do luggage drop off. There were Air Canada staff available to assist with the check in kiosks and we moved through this section rather quickly ,ten minutes at the most. The security line was busy but we managed to clear security in around 35 minutes & people were generally cordial. Upon return, we fully expected to be waiting on the tarmac, to our surprise we were in the terminal within five minutes. Customs & luggage pick up 30 minutes total. We made arrangements for curb side pick- up.
Airport Punta Cana, Dominican Republic - This international airport knows how to clear passengers coming and going. I was last in the D.R 25 years ago and this experience was no different. It doesn't seem to matter how many people are moving through the terminal, they clear house in 15-20 minutes and send you on your way. (And yes, I mean customs, luggage and in your mode of transportation). Impressive. Upon our return, same thing. We did online check in, dropped off our luggage and cleared security within 15-20 minutes.
Dominican Republic Online Form for entry & exit of the country were pretty straight forward once you understood what they were asking of you. It's basically their customs declaration card & a few COVID screening questions. For return, it seemed like they just wanted to make sure the person leaving was the same person who entered. Both forms generated QR codes which you needed at the airport coming & going respectively.
ArriveCan - what a waste of time. A lot of rig-a-mo-roll for nothing. It generated a QR code which no one asked for upon return, so unless it's linked to your passport in some way, I couldn't tell you why it was necessary to fill out. You still have to complete the Canadian declaration form via kiosk upon your return in the arrival terminal. Green sticker on your passport and you're good to go. Pink sticker means you have been randomly selected for COVID screening.
This was a much needed break for us and we found ourselves able to relax & feel safe at this resort.
