Great resort team

ruben and yuri provided a comfortable and unforgettable experience for me and my friends, and within that we met new people that also shared the same positive experience. i would definitely come back.

Terrible vacation

The travel agent did not warn us how bad things were in Cuba. She said it was a great resort and in fact it was the absolute worst. Food is expected to not be great but it was the worst ever I’ve had in Cuba. The weather yes beyond our control but was terrible. Days to get beach towels then accused of stealing washroom towels, minor power outages, water being shut off, having to shower with hair towels. As well as the entertainment being so not up to par. Traveling there with a family of two and [... read more] three children I; I believe something should be given back in return for this terrible vacation. I’m one to stick up for the beauty of Cuba and this vacation has completely changed me mind and the price paid for this? I am so upset about it.

Terrible resort.

We needed a bottle of water to make fluids, because my daughter had a fever, and we had to fight to get it. Complete disregard. I have photos of the liters of water left in the rooms; they are the liters that the hotel fills up, and they were dirty and rusty.

We had an amazing time!

We had an awesome week. The whole experience was great. We enjoyed the beach, the pool, the food and the staff. Our maid kept our rooms clean and comfortable. We were travelling with our daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter who is 2 1/2. Any concerns we had about travelling with a toddler were for nothing. She had the best time!

Awesomeness!

Loved my return visit.I was there in 2019 when it was brand new. Iberostar has yet to dissapoint! Clean, consistent standards all around, staff amazing and helpful always. Rooms are class act. No phone service in room , didn't worry me. Food amazing for this country.The only poor experience was that a request from the reception desk for a cab that could get us to a market in Holquin, resulted in a non English speaking driver, and his young "interpreter", who could barely speak English herself.He [... read more] had a very substandard cab with really bad suspension . I hurt my back from the banging. Dropped us off in a largely closed down area. no market to be seen. They had no idea what we were saying. The resort is super, thank you !

Love the resort

it was the third time we stayed at this resort. Hurrican Melissa did some damage to the roof at the Reception & Lobby bar,but it was repaired while we were there. The rooms and grounds were in good order.

Amazing Resort

We had such a wonderful experience at Iberostar Selection Holguín! The resort is absolutely beautiful — clean, well-maintained, and surrounded by stunning views of both the ocean and lush gardens. Iberostar Selection Holguin

The grounds are beautiful. There was a drought so the fountain features were not working and very dry landscape unfortunately. The hotel rooms were very clean. I did have a pack of hair ties taken from our room, so I would suggest locking or putting valuables and small items away. The water was shut off 3 days out of the week for 2 hours in the afternoons. It was very uncomfortable to say the least. Due to the gasoline shortage, the resort ran out of popular soft drink our second day there and had still not been replenished upon our departure. We booked an ocean view room, but it was not very nice at all. There were many trees before the ocean was nicely visible. The main beach was more than a 10 minute walk from our room and the shuttles were not running regularly due to battery issues. There were really not enough shuttles for that size of a resort. We had no body wash in our shower and never refilled. The staff was amazing and very friendly. They tried their best to work though any issues. The entertainment was ok. Not much entertainment during the days at all. I did not find the entertainment team very engaging with the guests at all. The Mediterranean and Japanese A La Carte venues were fantastic, but there needs to be more emphasis during the ride from the airport to hotel to pre-book them as soon as possible. They book out very quickly. The tours we booked were great. City and Sunset Catamaran. The cost into the city at $25 pp was a bit much. I gauge it at no more the $15-18pp would be a better deal. We were unable to check into our return flight on the WestJet app or Sunwing web page, but the check in at the Holguin airport was very fast and easy. The resort was clean, and very well maintained. We did have a lovely time regardless of any small inconveniences. I would rate it a 4 star property at most.

Honest Review

Check in was very quick and the reception desk staff very nice. We stayed in a beautiful room on the third floor overlooking the beach. The room was kept very clean and the beds very comfortable. The grounds are large but walkable. They have carts that will drive you around. The resort didn’t appear to be full, however the pool was packed every day and didn’t seem big enough for the amount of people that were there. We always managed to get chairs at both beaches. We were disappointed that  [... read more]we couldn’t take out kayaks or go on catamaran rides. We were told that their rescue boat was broken so it wasn’t safe to go out. The drinks were pretty bad, so best to stick to wine or beer. The food was as expected. Omelettes or eggs for breakfast which were very good and Canadian bacon was good and very popular. There was only white loaf bread for toast. No selection of breads and rolls like at Iberostar Selection Varadero. Cinnamon loaf and homemade donuts were very good. Fruit was mostly Papaya, Gauva and Bananas. Lunch and dinner buffet was limited and repetitive, but it was well cooked and the buffet staff were all fantastic. Best dessert was the ice cream. Public bathrooms didn’t seem to be cleaned too often and a child was sick in the lobby one evening and it was over 20 minutes before it was cleaned up. I wasn’t very impressed on our first night sitting in the lobby and having a roving band come by our table. They played a song and immediately asked for “tips for beautiful music”. I think a better approach would be to have them playing in a specific area in the lobby, with a tip jar nearby. They were doing work at the resort while we were there. Re-tiling fountains and work on the waterpark. This resort is really lovely with a lot of potential but I don’t see returning to it in the near future.

Trip to Holguín

I’ve been to Cuba several times. This visit was a sad one. The hotel facilities and grounds are clean and the staff, especially the buffet staff, are very nice. The little beach is good for young children. But a walk or ride to the other side of the bay is needed to enjoy the real beach. No water sports available because they lack a rescue boat. So you cannot use their kayaks, pedalos etc. the water park was closed as it was broken. Of course we never go to Cuba for the food but thi [... read more]s time there was very little and what was available was repeated daily. The bar drinks were extremely limited and what they made was hardly drinkable. There is no entertainment to speak of. In the past we found Cuban resorts put on very nice shows. No games room. Two pool tables with one pool cue, for example. As much as I wish to support the people of Cuba I will find another way to do so through charitable organizations instead. We paid over $1700 per person which is no longer reasonable. I know the cost will be much higher to go anywhere else, but it’s about the value for your dollar.

Super resort

To begin with I’m handycuped and got a room with walking shower and grab bar all over. The room itself is big and kept very clean,our cleaning lady Reisa was very efficient and pleasant . The grounds are beautiful and the little golfcarts take you wherever you want to go. Now to the dining The Buffet dining has plenty of food and they have 3 Specialty Restaurants. The bars are well stocked.

Great place

Very happy with the overall experience at this resort. Beautiful room, food was adequate despite food shortages in Cuba, beach was excellent and pool was clean and huge. The staff was extremely welcoming. Make sure to bring Canadian bills to exchange their coins because the bank doesn’t accept them. We used $1 tips in USD and brought larger bills to exchange with the locals/staff to help them go to the bank.

Nice resort

It has all you need to enjoy a calm and quiet vacation. It is a nice resort, the common areas are very well maintained. We had great time at the swimming pool, the beach is very pretty, but definitely the people made the difference. The employees at the resort are very friendly and try really hard to please the tourist. The rooms are big and comfortable (humidity was high so there was a wet odour). Great Stay

We stayed at Iberostar Selection Holguin. Hotel was beautiful, rooms are big, bright and super clean. Service was amazing. Beach and pool were absolutely stunning. Entertainment was nice, they are trying to make your stay fun for sure. Dining was average, however that's not a fault of the hotel, it's due to the food shortage that all of Cuba has. having said that, we did not sleep hungry, and we always found something nice to eat. I would totally recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for a nice time at a reasonable cost.

Amazing resort and friendly staff ? ?

Very nice and clean room only problem the shower area no door water leak outside the stand shower. but all the resort was very nice .the staff so friendly and helpful the beach amazing the pool so clean I want to go again with my family.

Selection Iberostar Holguin

This hotel is well maintained, clean, and modern. The staff was polite and helpful. Shoutout to the trolly drivers and the kids club workers, they were amazing. The pools and kids area were great, always lots of chairs and places to sit. The ocean was nice and clean no seaweed. Unfortunately due to shortages in Cuba the food was a major issue. There was plenty of food but not many options. Pasta, for supper and lunch everyday, rice and fish also. Not much meat, no eggs. Only watermelon for fruit [... read more] and cucumbers and tomato for veggies. By day 7 eating was a chore and not very pleasant. The snack bar ran out of everything and were serving weiners on pineapple. This wasn't the fault of the hotel of course, it really showcased the state Cuba is in with shortages. Bring salt, ketchup, and any condiments you may enjoy. The only suggestion I have for the hotel would be the entertainment. It is a very quiet hotel, the pool entertainment was water Zumba, night entertainment was the same every night, no beach party or anything like that. Overall I would say 6/10 due to food shortages and lack of entertainment.

A great vacation

Had a great stay. Staff were always greeting us and helpful. Very clean and well kept. Pools were always clean and maintained. Kids area was top notch. The ladies in the kids area had a great focus on the children. As did the lifeguards. Cleaning staff kept our room clean and we always had water every day. Top stars to all the staff and managers that work hard to keep the guests happy. As has been said about all of Cuba about the food. Yes the choices are limited. This isn't the staffs fault. Great resort

Great for families, modern rooms, beautiful beach, amazing staff , over all a great week, food was to be expected for Cuba, wish there was more fruits and vegetables, alcohol was a hit or miss, would definitely return for the value

Beautiful resort. Grounds are well kept, beaches are stunning, food was great and they are very accommodating of allergies/preferences. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. Above all the people are so warm and welcoming, working so hard and always smiling!
