One of our Top Cuba Experiences

We were pleasantly surprised with this location. A great layout to access and enjoy the various features and exterior spaces. Pools beautiful and clean. There are some buildings a few moments away , we were in building 4 - a short 10 minute walk to the as expected BEAUTIFUL beach. One of the key features was the exception food. The main buffet was very good, many thoughtful touches. The Italian and Indian alacartes were fantastic. Our room was very good, comfortable bed and everything you need [... read more] and very clean. Great beverage variety. Another key feature was the staff and customer service. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. The evening entertainment in the theater and lobby entertainment very enjoyable. I would describe this location as accessible. There were numerous ramps in and out of the main lobby as well as among the pool levels. The public washrooms were always very clean and well stocked. I would definitely return to this location.

Disappointed

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are nicely, renovated, clean and comfy. The bartenders at the poolside bar as well as a snack bar were the absolute best!! The housekeepers were so sweet! We loved the pools. I did encounter multiple crabs in the pools.. a huge one crawled under my foot at the swim up bar, but definitely out of the resorts control. We heard such amazing things about the food at Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo and was hoping it would come through. Beach restaurant was closed our entire stay, my little one was looking forward to pizza. Lots of repetitive dishes, some were edible. We witnessed a bad case food poisoning from the à la cart international menu by another family staying on the resort. Lastly, due to hurricane Melissa approaching; our flight was delayed 5 days prior too leaving, I went to the front desk to ask to extend our room for a few hours. Original flight was set to depart at 4:25pm, that changed to 9:25pm arriving into Toronto at 12:50am. Please keep in mind that there is roughly 150 hotel rooms and there were probably about 100 vacant rooms. There was maybe 50 people at most at the resort during our stay. It was not busy at all. We were first asked if we were repeat guests, I said no. I feel that if we were repeat guests then we would have been treated different. They the told me that it will be $20 an hour to keep our room. That they don’t give anything for FREE. My husband and I decided not to pay that. Then we then were told we had to pay $20 deposit for each beach towel. We had no choice as we were still in the pool. We then went to our room and began removing our luggage and by 11:20am the housekeepers were outside our hotel room door ready to clean… check out was at 12pm. We had spoke to other guests that were repeats and they were absolutely baffled in the outcome. Sadly, we will not return to Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo. We love Cuba, the people and the culture.

Could have been better

The hotel grounds were beautiful. The hotel was in a bad shape considering it’s only 8 years old. Our first room was awful, then l asked them to give me what l paid for, which was a king size bed and ocean view. We got that finally, but why the stress? All they had to do is give it to us in the first place. A nice room for Cuba. Water had to be asked even though it’s suppose to be in your room every day. Everyone that l spoke too had paid different prices so l was the only one that paid more which l don’t understand why???

Very good resort

Very clean resort, excellent service, nice view of the ocean, snack bars - one is open 24 hours, beach bar, Italian restaurant beside beach where you can have lunch instead of going to a classic buffet. Buffet space is air-conditioned, clean, choice of grilled fish, beef and pork. very nice resort. Planing to go back. I am rating this resort 4 and 1/2 stars.

Very Good Resort

The grounds were kept very exceptional and everything was easy to find. The pools and the beach were amazing. As far as the food goes the alacartes were very good but the buffets not so good (very little variety, no salads and no decent fruit). That being said the most exceptional part of the resort was the staff whose service was outstandingly and friendly.

Not a 5 star

Our room had to be changed twice. I had requested a king size bed, got 2 singles and the bathroom door had no handle to close. Our towels were never changed and constantly requesting water for our room. The second room was what we wanted in the first place. So why all the stress? The grounds were quite beautiful and the food was good considering it’s Cuba. There is no store to buy any sort of snacks. The staff hardly spoke English and one male at the bar in the lobby didn’t even understan [... read more]d the word hot. Like a hot coffee or hot water for tea. Reception was amazing though. Very helpful and informative If you want an older group of people, this is the place to go. No loud music. Just relaxing atmosphere.

Decent resort!

The lobby was great! Open, spacious, clean and elegant looking. The grounds were also pretty nice, the landscaping was awesome; nice planted coconut palm trees, grass and pools made the scenery very beautiful. The dining areas were also great, the Indian and Italian restaurants were a little small in size, but they only book a certain amount of people per night to ensure everyone gets a chance to experience it once for the week. The main buffet area, where you eat most days for breakfast, lunch and dinner is pretty big in size but the food gets pretty repetitive. You end up eating the most of the same things for all your meals. It’s not a problem if you don’t mind eating the same things, but the food is either too salty or not salty enough. Other than that, you can adapt to the taste. As for the hotel and the rooms, they need some work. The AC can be an issue in some rooms and I believe the toilet/tank system is an issue in most rooms. They tell you, as long as you’re not putting TP in the toilet(it goes in the garbage they put beside the toilet) your toilet will work fine. Other that tht, Grand Mutha Cayo Guillermo is pretty decent!

Ok resort

Grounds were lovely, people were very nice, pools were very dirty, buffet food was repetitive & cold, a la Cartes were good, but also cold. Rooms were nice, but buildings need some TLC. Was water on floors everyday, leaking from rooms. Beach was long walk & no wait service like was advertised. There was no Entertainment at pool or beach, very disappointing. The views were very nice. Great views

Will not return to this resort. If you are not a repeat guest you are not important. We arrived for a two week stay sept 30 - Oct 14 . in which we booked in May. Three other people joined us last minute and have been here before. When we arrived the three received their rooms at 10:30 am and we had to wait mine was 2:30 another 4:30 and the other 6:00 p.m. when we got our room keys they did not give us wifi password so had to return to lobby to get that. The rooms were great very clean but on s [... read more]econd and third floors in which we requested bottom floor due to mobility issues. Couldn’t be moved because they were full. This place has 500 rooms and had 308 guests. The pools were cloudy and slimy the lifeguards sat in their chairs on their phones for 8 hours a day. The swim up bar does not serve beer. The kids were all in this pool eating popcorn and having their pop or juice and their cups were left in the pool along with a lot of popcorn. The entertainment was a joke. They come to pool crank music on a speaker and leave. The beach is a walk and a further walk to the chairs. The beach bar is at the start of the beach and the chairs 5 min walk away. So if you want a drink it’s a walk. If you need a bathroom it is not at the beach. I am not a picky eater and this was terrible food was always cold and the Buffett never changed from noon to supper. They did have a roasted pig for thanksgiving. The workers were all great and friendly but there is no management going on there. These people need to be supervised so they actually do their jobs. The garden keepers and lawn people never stopped. And yes I know it’s Cuba I travel There a lot. I bring my gifts and I become friends with a lot of the people. I will still travel to Cuba just not this resort.

Awful

Services was awful, food was the worse I had in Cuba. The maids were great room was cleaned daily. We had no water for a day and night worse place I’ve been to in Cuba , they promise things but nothing is done, been to Cuba over 10 years this resort was bad,

Fantastic vibe at this hotel. Clean rooms Great layout Incredible staff everywhere on the resort Food options all over Great beach Different pool options Fantastic entertainment staff We unanimously knew after 24 hours that we would be coming back to this hotel. ( there was 3 of us different ages in 3 separate rooms)

Cuba August 2025

Airport While waiting for luggage, women's washroom, 2 stalls, no toilet seats, no paper, and a woman working there with a bucket of water to flush. When leaving, waiting for the plane. Women's washroom 4 stalls, no toilet seats. Resort Cons The first 2 days, they had vodka, then none. No vodka all week. There were no cans of beer for room mini fridge all week. The green bracelet is for Cubans visiting the resort. Pink is for returning guests. When waiting for drinks at  [... read more]the bar, the bartender would serve the green bracelets first. Ignoring other guests, regardless of who was there first. A guest asked for a birthday cake, and they were charged $45. The cake was dry and did not taste good. All the desserts looked good but were not tasty. Pros House keeping, maids, were excellent. Staff in general were friendly, happy to answer questions, and polite. Beach was wavy and difficult for me to swim in. When I was there in December, the water was calm, with very small waves. Pools were clean, and the water was warm. You had to ask a staff member for lounge chairs but they had a lot. They take Canadian money now! The buffet always had the same foods but a lot of options. They had clams and mussels. They did not have them in December. My friend uses a walker, and we got the wheelchair accessible room. It was great. There was a seat in the shower for her to use. She was very happy.

Lovely resort

I spent five wonderful days here. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. By the second day, the wait staff anticipated my drink of choice. Everything is very well-maintained and very clean. I loved swimming in the three different pools. My only complaint would be that the map you were given isn’t really helpful and the resort isn’t well sign posted. I needed to watch a YouTube video to find the path to the beach.

Always a good time at the Muthu

We were a group of 7 women. Three of us were repeat guests. Arrived early, so we parked ourselves in the lobby and enjoyed some beverages. Shortly there after our rooms were available. Our keys cards and info were delivered to our table by a lovely lady from the front desk. (I wish I could remember all the names of the outstanding staff) so many I remembered from prior trips an they remembered us. The woman who does the a la carte reservations is amazing. The rooms were spotless, shower, toilet, fridge never had an issue. Water and beer replenished daily. We celebrated two birthdays and an anniversary while there. One of those birthdays was a 60th. They went above and beyond. Decorated our table are and presented the most delicious cake, turning down the lights while the staff and all us patrons sang happy birthday. Always going the extra mile. The sports bar had the NHL playoffs available to watch( the didn’t last year) but obviously acquired it knowing the Canadians wanted it. They had a Canada Day, poutine included. They had a beach party, they had the lobby set up for dinner. All these special themed events during low season. Their attention to detail shows in everything they do. It was a great holiday.

Wonderful stay

The stay at the hotel was really good. The ambiance was wonderful. The staff was really good as well. The room was nice and clean when we first went in all the staff members were really welcoming, and I had a really good time at the pool as well as they have a lot of activities for kids and all the people to do.

GREAT RESORT

ONE OF THE BEST RESORTS IN CUBA. Very friendly staff .awesome beach grate for kids easy to get in and out of the water clean sand. food was good always had fresh meat and fish on the grill and at the buffet. I went there for scuba diving the dive shop is about a 30 minute walk down the beach .COCO DIVING, very good staff an some of the best diving in CUBA. we seen a lot of life including groupers baracuda turtles and sharks .I can't wait to go back.

Amazing Resort

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and I had no problem. The grounds are very well kept and clean. The pool area is very nice and I had no problem finding a Palapa or some shade and ofcorce the beach is the best for me the water was clear and clean and you can walk out quite far and you don't have to run to reserve a Deck chair because there was plenty of them and a lot of shade. Good place!!

It was my second visit there this year. The staff are really nice. The rooms are keeper cleaned and had no issues. We spent our time by the ocean. I have no problem walking, but went this time with an 80 year old. It’s a little far and washroom are also far for the elderly. Besides that, it’s a great place to visit.

Great Location

First time in Cuba and I cannot express how magnificent a holiday we had. The resort was top notch with a clean comfortable room, beautiful beaches, amazing food and outstanding staff. Will definitely go back again as every thing I wanted in a holiday was delivered here. My appreciation to Jenn Black who arranged everything and made this experience all I could ask for.

Very nice resort..

We have been to Cuba several times and this is one of the better resorts we have stayed at...The layout of the resort makes it easy to get around, the grounds and pools are well kept. The beach has lots of chairs for everyone and you can walk for miles on the beach. The food was good for Cuba and of course the staff are very helpful and friendly.. The room was clean and well kept with great staff.
