We had stayed last fall at the Barcelo Maya Riviera for my 60th birthday and our daughter and son-in-law’s honeymoon. We were so impressed that my wife and I decided to return this year to celebrate her 60th birthday with our sons.
Upon arrival we checked all 4 of us into 2 separate rooms and I informed the front reception personnel that one of our sons had a severe peanut allergy and to keep them out of their room which they noted, and also asked them if they could send something up to our ro[... read more]om for my wife’s birthday celebration to which they said “they’d try.”
Last year they sent to both our room and our daughter’s, a special dessert and a bottle of bubbly for our separate occasions. It made it special and memorable. This time, even after a few days staying there, they kept restocking peanuts in our son’s room even after talking to a supervisor at the front desk about how serious of an issue this was to his health. I felt like it wasn’t taken seriously and even though I was told the manager would be notified, there was zero follow up and more peanuts stocked daily.
My wife also never got any special treats in our room for her birthday. Between our 2 rooms we had to call and make daily reminders to refill the fridge with water in order to brush our teeth, restock towels that weren’t during daily cleaning as well as restocking Kleenex, body wash and soap, all which were included in the price of our room and became a real annoyance. Only one night of our 7 day stay did we get a knock on our door with staff asking if we needed refills on anything.
On our arrival day, we booked all the restaurants for the week both at our resort and 4 others that we could choose from. We were surprised that many restaurants were completely closed on certain days, so we were limited in choices of where to eat as well as day and time and had to pick some times as late as 9:45 which wasn’t ideal. We found that the later seatings we were very rushed with food coming out cold, and lights starting to be turned off in the restaurants while we were hurried to finish our meal. This happened at the Santa Fe (American Steak House) restaurant, The Rodizio (Brazilian Steak House) and the La Comedie (French restaurant), on our 3rd visit (due to limited choices and times), where the power kept surging and we actually couldn’t leave, because the doors wouldn’t open for a bit.
There was a convention happening at our resort late in the week and when we tried to take the bus for our dinner reservation at The Palace, convention participants dominated getting multiple buses so that hotel guests were denied boarding and told to get off. My wife and one son were taken by a golf cart that seated 2, but with the driver there were 3, and my wife had to hold onto our one son so he wouldn’t fall out. It was a disaster. Upon return I voiced my frustration with the front desk supervisor who didn’t seem too concerned about not having transportation available to guests staying at the resort. The accumulation of deficiencies made what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable holiday into one in which we were glad to return home. This was not the vacation that we had anticipated it to be and we really hope that they make some serious improvements, especially with them knowing about the severe peanut allergy and yet still stocking peanuts everyday into our son’s room. That could have been fatal.

Love this place
We love going to the Barcelo’s, we have been to this resort many times over the years . We especially enjoy the Maya Riviera Adult only , we have been 5 times since the end of Covid . We enjoy the pools , always lots of chairs . We don’t have to get up early to get a seat in the shade. Food is amazing, my husband had a good selection of Scotch’s .
We went with family, no problem to get a restaurant reservations at all. The staff were great very helpful and friendly

Terrific stay
Seriously loved everything about this hotel. Food was excellent, pool was very clean and very large, adults only was the way to go. Room was clean and spacious. Service was excellent. If i have to complain about anything it is that the rocks in the ocean but hey that is not the hotel’s fault. Thank you very much for a lovely stay

Barcelo Maya Riviera Adults Only - Great Resort
Third time at the Riviera adults only resort and 9th time to the entire Barcelo Maya Grand Resort complex. This time for 11 nights in an oceanfront junior suite which we regularly have.
Never disappointing. Great food, good selection of restaurants, very very clean and welcoming.
Food quality is excellent, we regularly saw the food staff checking the temperature on the buffet with digital thermometers to ensure food safety,
Never a problem to get loungers around the pool or at the bea[... read more]ch.
Although mother nature brought seaweed the Barcelo grounds team was out every single night and day to rake it up and cart it away as best they could.
Very attentive restaurant staff, they remember you from prior visits and maitre 'd's check with you during the meals to ensure all is well.
We will certainly be back next year

Barcelo Maya Riviera - Mexico - Adult only
This was our second time staying at the Barceló Maya Riviera, and overall we had a good experience, although there were some differences compared to our first visit.
The room was very spacious, with an extremely large and comfortable bed—big enough for several people. It was always clean, and we really enjoyed having a Jacuzzi on the balcony. The sound insulation was excellent; we couldn’t hear any noise from neighboring rooms. The air conditioning worked very well, which made the stay even mor[... read more]e comfortable. However, the refrigerator was not consistently restocked—it was only refilled two or three times during our one-week stay.
The food was very good most of the time, with plenty of variety, although one day the selection was limited. We appreciated that it was possible to book à la carte restaurants, but reservations were quite difficult to secure. We managed to book only two restaurants during our stay. We tried the French restaurant, which was very good—we even had lobster there. Unfortunately, we had to cancel another reservation because the only available time was too late (9:30 pm). On one occasion, we were advised to try walking in to a restaurant, but we were turned away.
The beach is nice, but there are some important things to know. The shore and water entry are quite rocky, with sharp stones and broken shells, so water shoes are highly recommended. Near the shore, the water can appear a bit cloudy, but it becomes clearer as you go further out. You can see some fish, and if you walk to the pier, there are many more, as people feed them there.
One downside was that it was difficult to find available sunbeds. Many guests reserved them very early in the morning (around 7 am) by leaving towels or personal items, especially near the pool and beach.
The staff were wonderful—friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Overall, we enjoyed our vacation, but compared to our first visit, it felt different and less organized, especially when it came to restaurant reservations and beach seating.

Very nice
Very nice , clean and well maintained . Excellent staff friendly and always willing to help . The buffet had food for everyone (from hotdogs and hamburgers to ribeye steaks and lobster) . My only issue was that the food was luke warm at best . Did three a la carte, Italian , Mexican and Japanese . The Italian was good the other two were OK .
The beach was cleaned daily from the sea grass , the water is a little murky and very rocky . The rocks cleared once you got about 20 or 30 feet [... read more]from shore , a pair of beach shoes might be a good idea . The pools are beautiful , I believe there are five .
Overall it was a wonderful experience , be prepared to walk its a large facility and is attached to 5 other resorts . There is a shuttle service . Would definitely return !!

Great adults-only resort to unwind and enjoy the sun!
Easy shuttle process organized by the airline to the Barcelo resort (around 1hr 15 mins from Cancun airport). The overall property is quite big with six different resorts, with the hotel on the south end being the adults-only resort. It is a modern-looking hotel compared to the rest of the property and had great amenities (large pools, good access to the beach, lots of options for sports/fitness activities, and lots of variety of restaurants in the adults-only resort and across the property).
[... read more]
The beach is pretty rocky by the adults-only section, but you can walk about a hundred yards to the left and the seabed is a lot smoother and easier to access. Restaurants have good variety and are pretty good across the respective cuisines. Buffet is also a good option for a variety of dishes, especially the desserts and fresh fruit. We got a premium swim-up room which was nice to enjoy a quick dip if you didn't walk to go all the way to the main pool area. The towel game is very much in play in the mornings with most chairs snagged by around 8-9am.
The late night shows are great with several options across the various resorts, the ones at the adults-only hotel isn't quite as strong as the others, but you can take the shuttle to attend the other events such as Broadway musical hits, circus, salsa performance etc.
All in all, very good resort and great value to enjoy in Riviera Maya.

Relaxing
My husband and I had a wonderful Relaxing vacation. The whole resort was beautiful and very clean, staff is top notch and the food was Excellent.
The only thing I was disappointed in was trying to walk into ocean it was very rocky. The beach was beautiful but very difficult to just walk in and enjoy the ocean my elderly parents would not be able to go in the ocean for this reason.

Amazing Inauguration Visit
As our first ever all inclusive visit to Mexico our agent "Karol" nailed it. The resort was amazing and the weather was great. The room was spacious and very clean. The garden view was tranquil and private. The bar fridge was not cool enough and it was fixed as soon as the front desk was contacted. Our experiences at the 4 a'la carte restaurants were first class all around. The buffet varieties were plentiful throughout the day and the service was outstanding. Our time at the pools were very rel[... read more]axing and the pool side and bar service was top notch. All of the staff at the resort were very friendly and professional. We would highly recommend this adults only resort.

Great resort
Barcelo Maya Riviera is a great resort. Checking in was easy and the room was in great shape with all modern conveniences. There was a bit of a damp smell in the room sometimes but I believe that this has to do with the weather and not the maintenance of the resort. Everything was very clean and the landscaping is beautiful. The food was great at all the à la carte restaurants and this was the nicest buffet I have ever experienced. We had a great time!

Lovely Resort!
Hotel was beautiful - still under renovations but very modern.
The room and beach were beautiful! The staff were especially polite, hardworking and friendly.
Only area of improvement would be the food. I think the buffet could use more variety. In addition, could have more options at lunch and possibly have the buffet as a dinner option.

All you need at Barcelo Maya Riviera
The hotel is very well designed. One of the best features is how they lay out the infinity pools. All of them nudge right up to the beach giving you nice views of the beach and ocean while relaxing in the pool. The beach is large with many areas to sit in the sun or shade. The entrance to the water was rocky but with some water shoes it was no big deal. These things don't personally bother me - its nature - like going up north or anything else you will have to deal with some environmental factor[... read more]s.
The food was great - The buffet breakfast was all you could ask for and the lunch and dinner was on the mid - higher end of the scale when comparing buffets. The restaurants were all very good, our favorite being Agave (Mexican cuisine) specifically the taco bar where you sit around a bar table and watch them prepare you all the tacos you want. Sapporo (Japanese) was also great - the teppanyaki grill is like every other - a fun show and great food. The other one we tried was the Italian which was good- the pasta was decent but i enjoyed the pizza more.
One fun perk is the ability to go to all the other resorts, we walked around the first couple of days and you can grab a drink anywhere and explore. We did have dinner at the steak and pasta restaurant at the palace and it was one of our favorite meals and we found even the service amazing that evening. The other resorts have some small water parks (kid friendly resorts) we used the mini golf once for a little adventure (free) they also have bowling and other things in the mall at your own cost.
Overall all the staff was amazing and friendly and worked very hard. However the resort as a whole doesn't seem to accommodate or give you that feeling of being "treated like royalty". Don't get me wrong they do a lot for you and are great but I found the premium level did not have many perks besides 24 hour room service. We never used the premium lounge as the lobby bar was significantly better in the evenings and nights. I never got premium drinks, even when i asked for cans or corona i was told no. We were celebrating a honeymoon and asked if they did anything for that. We were told yes they would have something in our room or set up something nice but all they gave us was a dessert at dinner. Nice of the recognition but a little ironic at and all inclusive. Again this is me finding issues to complain about, in no way did this ruin my trip at all. The resort is beautiful the staff is great and i had an amazing time. I enjoyed it more then the Hideaway at Royalton i previously stayed at.

Amazing Experience
My wife and I visited Barceló for our baby moon. We doth were impressed with how clean and beautiful the resort was. The food was great and the perks of being a premium guest was well worth it. The view and the beaches were beautiful. And I can not stop talking about the HUGE king size bed. I need it. I want it. I will have it. Thanks for wonderful memories.

Beautiful resort, but beaches are weird
Everything about the hotel is perfect! The service, the room, the cleaning, the food!
The only comment I have about this resort is the beaches. I understand the seaweed situation is out of the resort's control, but the rest is manageable.
On the first day we came, we went for a swim in the ocean and my husband stubbed his toe really badly on a random rock. We found many dips in the water where there was just rocks. I stubbed my toe, but not as badly as my husband (his toe was purple for 5 days[... read more]).
I feel like it's either lacking sand, or rock removal is necessary. But adding sand would make it more shallow than it already is... so you can't snorkel unless you go really far out (close to the ropes).

Lovely Resort
Stayed for a week with friends. Beautiful modern clean resort. Rooms are huge and well equipped. Lots of food options and access to the 5 family resorts located on the property. Staff were friendly and helpful. Worth the extra to book oceanfront rooms with beautiful views of water and sunrise.
Only thing that could be improved is the a la carte booking process. All manual, could be done online. Info about entertainment, resort activities, buffet opening times, bar opening times etc
