Great resort

I just got back from a week-long trip with my parents to the Riu Latino (August 2026). The resort is impeccably clean and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The pools are very nice and the drinks are great. The food is average, nothing spectacular but definitely edible and there is a lot of selection at the buffet. The only issue we had is that my mother has limited mobility and uses a cane, so we were unable to take advantage of the beautiful beach as it is a long walk in the sand  [... read more]to the beach chairs and to the ocean. People tend to stay up late at this resort and wake up late, so there is no need to wake up at 6am to go reserve chairs at the pool or beach. Even later in the day, there are plenty of chairs available by the pool (I'm not sure about the beach as I only walked down once), and usually chairs with shade are available. There are plenty of activities going on throughout the day, which is a great way to meet people. The resort is secluded, so you need to take a taxi, an Uber, or a tour to go anywhere. The resort has one shop but since it is so secluded, the prices are very high ($26 USD for a bottle of sinscreen), so make sure you bring everything you need. I would rate this resort 4.5 stars out of 5 and would definitely consider going back.

Our first time at the Riu Latino

Rui Latino is a modern, very clean resort that provides lots of entertainment with an amazing staff who provide excellent customer service. The food was good but be found the choices of entrees at the a la carte restaurants to be limited compared to other resorts we've stayed at. They have large water slides and activities all day long and with optional trips with provided transportation to sister resorts for Riu parties. We were there in August and it was extremely hot to the point that the temperature of the pools was like that of a hot tub. At a different time of year and for a young crowd this is a fabulous resort.

AVERAGE AT BEST

This resort is average at best. It is newer and quite clean. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was prepared nicely and the housekeeping staff always did something special for us. We weren't satisfied with the view even though we paid extra for Ocean View. The view is mainly of the courtyard. To see any of the ocean, you need to go onto your balcony. There was a bounty of food and options but limited gluten free. Kulinarium restaurant was not good at all and the power went out for 30 minutes while we were dining there. They asked us to leave without serving us our dinner so we left and then the power came back on so we returned to the restaurant but the staff didn't seem to be so happy. We were not impressed with the meal. The steakhouse was the second worst of the restaurants. It was way too bright and loud inside. The ribeye steak was all fat. The Asian restaurant was a buffet style and we ranked it third worst. We enjoyed our meal at the Milan Italian restaurant and we went back a second time. We never went back to any of the other restaurants. The buffet was a somewhat better option than the restaurants. We enjoyed the lobby bar before our dinners but the mosquitos were terrible at night and made it hard to enjoy a drink or two in the open air lobby. The pools were decent. We enjoyed our time around one of the quiet pools which is right next to the waterslides. It was much quieter than the other pools which tended to get very loud and rowdy as the day progressed. We went down the waterslides once during our stay. It is something different that other resorts don't have. People seemed to enjoy going on them. The landscaping is very sparse. The building itself looks very bland. There is zero character. It felt as though we could literally be anywhere. It was so nondescript. We love going to beaches but not this one. We were charged a beach cleaning fee when checking into the resort that we had to pay by credit card. There was tons of seaweed which they tried to keep cleaning but it just kept accumulating. The tractor would pass by all the time and we would smell the strong gas which polluted the air. Walking from the building to the beach was difficult as we had to walk a very long way through deep soft sand. There were no washrooms by the beach. The ocean had lots of seaweed and actual human feces on more than one occasion. It was so bad that we stopped going to the beach altogether and decided to stay by the pool instead for the rest of our vacation. It was disgusting and shocking...something we have never witnessed before in other resorts in Mexico or anywhere else. We think this Costa Playa Mujeres area has a big problem. The entertainment was average and typical. Nothing really stood out to us. The type of guests at this resort ranged from late teens to elderly but the majority was a younger crowd who liked to party and get wasted. We felt it was very ghetto and trashy at times. We observed many incidents of people getting completely intoxicated and falling down, passing out, needing medical attention, screaming and yelling, being pushed around on wheelchairs, fighting with staff and even the police had to come one evening to deal with guest/staff fights. Overall our time at Riu Latino was not worth remembering. We will certainly not be back. There are so many other places to go which are far better Save your money and go elsewhere.

Fantastic Resort

Our first time at this resort and we loved it. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Our room was a good size and the fridge and bar was well stocked. Lots of food choices and plenty of it, you won't go hungry. Bar services were top notch, and they do not water down the drinks. All the pools were great, and we had no trouble in getting a lounge all week. All the staff were top notch. The nightly shows were fantastic. We highly recommend this resort.

Wonderful vacation

This was the first time we returned to the same Hotel Riu Latino, Plaja Mujeres. Unable to book online with Tripcentral, we called and asked for assistance. Our travel advisor, Sandra De Faria, was incredibly helpful from start to finish. We truly appreciated her professionalism and her willingness to quickly resolve price issues that occurred during payment. The resort was modern, the staff were friendly and attentive, the rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the food selection was excellent with lots of variety every day at the buffet and specialty restaurants. The beach and pools were beautiful, and there was always entertainment or activities going on. Overall, it was a great value for the price, and we would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family.

Riu Latino

The resort has everything you need, clean and modern rooms, good food, good daytime entertainment and at night. There is a pool for every adult. Quiet and laid back pools or party pools or in between party and laid back. The RIU app is great, informs guests about all the organized activities. I enjoyed the yoga class, dance lessons and abs class. The staff were super friendly and attentive. Wonderful resort

The food was fantastic, great friendly service. The staff always remembered us. The hotel was beautiful. Great view, room always cleaned before lunch. Comfortable, quiet. The grounds were beautiful, the staff were always tending to it. The entertainment group was fantastic. Aquafit was my favourite! Highly recommend this resort!!

Amazing resort

Hotel was very clean, location was perfect not too far from airport. Staff were very friendly and Helpful. They were always on the go. Never seen any of them just standing around. Atmosphere and food was truly amazing. Will definitely be going back this resort and would recommend

Viva Riu Latino!

The hotel cleanliness was immaculate and the condition of the hotel excellent. The grounds were spotless and all the staff (maintenance, entertainment, bar, cleaning, front desk, retail) were very friendly and welcoming. This hotel exceeded expectations. The food was very good with a ton of variety. The Riu party offsite was quite the experience. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our first time at the Riu!

It’s ok, not great.

This hotel is not 5 stars it’s 3 on a good day. My boyfriend and I arrived late that we missed dinner on the first night. So our option was the 24 hour snack bar, you know what we had to choose from, ham and cheese sandwiches and ice cold hot dogs that we were told to microwave. So 0 star on that. The beach was fantastic! It looks like a Cuba beach which is amazing, however if you want drinks on the beach you better be ready to wave down only 2 servers that serve the beach or participate in a lo [... read more]nnnnnnggggg sandy walk back to the pool bar. If you go to a Riu expect them to force the jungle/pink/white/neon parties every chance they get because that’s what you are paying for at Riu. I personally won’t go to a Riu again but that’s because it was all about parties. This resort is not the place if you want to relax and have good food. The buffets are the exact same every meal and they are mid at best. The restaurants are boring and barely a step up from the buffet. The only positive thing I have to say is that they upgraded us to a Riu Palace down the road 5 days in because they overbooked. And let me tell you the Palace was a large step up from the Latino. I would recommend this place to the fresh 18-22 year olds that don’t have kids and want to meet people. If you aren’t that category don’t go here.

Riu Latino

The resort is beautiful with plenty of open air spaces, well manicured grounds, three pools and a water slide in a separate pool. The staff are courteous, friendly and helpful. The hotel is very clean and the rooms spacious and modern. The food and drinks were delicious. And the beach runs for more than 10k, easily.

Amazing Resort!

Everything about this resort was great! Service was excellent, we were always greeted with a smile from everyone on staff & our room was cleaned everyday in a timely manner. Food was also very good and fresh in all restaurants including the pool café. Bartenders were quick and efficient! Our only issue (minor) was the lighting of the restaurants and lobby bar at night...way too bright! Highly recommend staying here and we would definitely return!

Great resort!

This resort is very clean and well kept. The rooms are spacious and bright. All public areas are in good shape and the washrooms by the pools and public areas are always being cleaned. The food in the buffet is fresh and there is quite a variety (although sometimes it's not as hot as it could be). The a la cartes could be a bit better. We had a flight issue (totally unrelated to the resort) and the front desk was very accommodating in letting us use their phone and helping out with Spanish translation.

Just ok!

Booking with Trip Central was smooth. Self serve at Ottawa airport was great. Flight - cramped seats with no padding. Please bring back Elite program Transfer to hotel was ok, no beverages offered. Check-in at hotel was ok although they did not respect the lines, one line for RiU club class, one line for guests that were already registered. People lined up wherever. ROOMS: very clean, room could use additional furniture such as desk. The fridge was well stocked. Plenty of clothes hange [... read more]rs in closet. I love the RiU application where you can request maintenance, order additional towels, blankets, pillows, drinks etc…very efficient and super quick delivery. FOOD: The restaurants were not great, the Asian restaurant is a buffet, all meats served in all restaurants are over cooked. The food is better at the buffet but if you don’t get it off the grill, the food is under a light and not always hot. The omelette/egg station offers precooked eggs and omelettes but not the greatest. They will make you a custom omelette but be prepared to wait as their priority is making large batches at a time. There is plenty of fruits and vegetables and ready made salads which were tasty. The resort does not have any outdoor terrace for dining other than Pepe’s food which serves frozen beef patties, hot dogs, fries, nachos and sometimes chicken and tacos, Nothing is really worth it here! Best to go to buffet! DRINKS: no complaints, red, white, rose wine, sangria, proseccos all good, mixed drinks, frozen margaritas, ceasars, frozen mango daiquiri, gin and tonic, beer were all good. SLIDES - did not try but they looked like a lot of fun PARTY - mostly hosted at another sister resort, transportation provided, many participated and seemed to have had a blast SPORTS BAR - open 24 hours, also best place for cappuccinos, lattes in the morning. You can also get pastries and pre made burritos and sandwiches and fresh fruits SHOP - open 7am to 11 pm, pricey but not as bad as other hotels I visited STAFF: Attentive, polite, welcoming and a great asset to the resort BEACH - lots of chairs, great for long walks, we had red flag most of our stay due to high winds POOLS: lots of chairs, the pools are close together so even if you are at a pool with no bar or activity you can still hear the action happening not far. I don’t think I will return because of the food, I always found something to eat but it was repetitious and eating at the buffet for 3 meals every day quickly becomes monotonous.

Best resort we’ve been to !

I was pleasantly surprised with how clean it was, all hallways, all bathrooms, the resort was cleaned and stocked at all times ! (Been to resorts in the past which bathrooms were trashed and not cleaned often enough or toilet paper ran out) never here at Riu Latino ! The staff had excellent customer service, and worked quick. People wrote poor reviews about there not being a bar/ bathroom building on the Beach- though I do agree I wish there was a bathroom building on the beach as the walk to get back to the bathroom feels like a 3 minute walk, the lack of bar doesn’t matter really because there is constantly 1-2 servers going around the beach with a large tray of like 30 different drinks (margaritas, mojitos, bahama mama, pina colada, beer) and they come around like every 10 minutes offering variety of drinks. I would suggest better entertainment however in the Theater it was everyday just music/ dancing. Would be nice to see actual theater shows such as plays/ musicals- actual shows rather than just dancing every night. Food was good I always found lots of options to fill my plate with at the breakfast/lunch/dinner buffets The resort is small and once you make a loop of it it’s easy to remember where everything is and finding your way around is easy ! but it has everything you need (5 swimming pools, 24/hour sports bar, spa, theater, store, 5 restaurants etc) overall a great experience !

Amazing Resort

The resort was everything we wanted and more. From the amazing service, great food options, rooms that were clean, spacious and comfortable. It is a smaller resort with everything conveniently located. I would definitely recommend.

Very good resort

Likes: Resort was clean, grounds well taken of, staff excellent, room was excellent and beach was fantastic. Plenty of entertainment day and evening. An abundance of party atmosphere: jungle party, pink party, silent party, foam pool party and of course white evening party. Changes I would like to see: Would like to see a bar closer to, or on the beach. Would also like to see the lobby bar and sports bar have small designated lane where guests can order their own drinks and step away. The [... read more] present system with guests sitting on bar stools all around especially at peak times makes it inconvenient and unsafe because one would have to find 'an opening' and get the bartender attention. In light of COVID, measles and flu, unnecessary close contact should be avoidable. There is a residential black cat near the Moctezuma restaurant. I have witnessed cat lovers petting and holding this cat. Nothing wrong with that. However, plenty is wrong when these same guests go into the buffet restaurant and hold shared utensils without washing their hands. Time taken to travel between the airport and resort, going and coming is well over an hour. I was told about 40 minutes.

Incredible resort!!

This resort offered everything that we expected and more. Upon arrival the roadway was clean The front entrance was spotless floor shiny just an overall extremely clean entranceway into a fabulous lobby, where we were greeted with staff who served us mimosas as we waited to check in to our room. The front desk staff had asked us if we were here for a special occasion as we indicated for our anniversary, and when we got to our room, there was a bottle of sparkling champagne with a happy anniversa [... read more]ry note attached to it with our names on it. The room was absolutely incredible. We have never experienced such a beautiful modern clean well laid out room there was so much room and just for two people we felt like we had an entire banquet hall to ourselves. The balcony looked over partial ocean view with a forest next to us which gave us the best of both peaceful, relaxing, quiet atmosphere. The food was 10 out of 10 there is not one piece of food that we did not eat off of our plates. The quality of the food and the selection was endless. The staff were incredible always on top of things. The pool, the beach the water were amazing as well really we had no complaints about this place at all to sum this up. We will definitely be coming back to this resort as it left an incredible experience and a five out of five star rating for us. Special thanks to the staff who work tirelessly every single day to make our experience worthwhile by maintaining the resort cleaning our rooms even the public bathrooms were absolutely spotless. Emphasize so much on cleanliness that it was almost hard to believe that anything was ever dirty in the first place. If you are considering on going to the Riu Latino we highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed!

Great resort!

I recently stayed at this resort solo and had an absolutely wonderful experience. The entire trip was relaxing and fun from start to finish. The food was delicious—especially the buffets, which offered a great variety and were always fresh and well-prepared. My room was very large, spotlessly clean, and comfortable, making it easy to unwind. The staff were all friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which really added to the overall positive experience. Clean, modern, great value!

Located on a picturesque beach in the Costa Mujeres area, this resort is clean, modern, and it offers many activities. They had a lot of variety of food offered at several restaurants. They had several pools to choose from. They had many lounge chairs available. Great value for the money!
