Barcelo Maya Caribe: Food

There was definitely a lot of food in the hotel. However, the buffet needs better chefs. The flavours of the food were really off. The captain morgan grill had the best tasting food overall. I do think that the chef's need a bit of training. Anything fried was totally soaked in oil. As if fried in cold oil. Like I said a lot of good food however taste was not there. The rooms had issues as well, we asked for our tap to be fixed many times. And there was 3 of us in a room we asked for a  [... read more]better room and it was denied as well, even though the hotel was not fully booked.

Thank you Angelina for choosing an amazing resort to spend with my family. Resort was very clean the staff were always willing to help. Food at buffet and the restaurants was delicious. Lots of activities for all ages. Loved watching my grandkids snorkel in the ocean was priceless. Thanks so much.

Occidental Papagayo: Enjoyed Occidental Papagayo

This property is 25 yrs old which results in lovely mature tropical gardens~palm trees, flowered shrubs, birds, butterflies.Being built into a hill there are lots of stairs. Numberous carts can take you places. 3 buffets a day with lots of choice + 3 specialty restaurants. 2 pools + lovely large beach area with view to Pacific Ocean. Numberous activities, bocci, ping pong,billards, gym, horseshoes,target practices, musical entertainment most nights. English at front desk was 80 percent, other [... read more] employees 40-50 percent. People were lovely and friendly. Being 25 yrs old there are areas that need some TLC. Met numberous people that have come to this resort for years and still enjoy it.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Barcelo Colonial charming family resort

Amazing grounds, we've been to over 10 other resorts and this one scores high with its architecture and natural beauty. We loved it. Most rooms cater to families: 2 queen beds + sofa. We couldn't find a room with a king bed and neither could our friends. The beach is beautiful, wide, clean, white sand, and has lots of palm trees. There was a bit of a shortage of beach chairs as the resort was full, especially on Saturday. Water shoes are needed as there are rocks in the water. Food was excellent [... read more]. Plenty of entertainment venues to chose from as we also had access to adjacent resorts. All in all great value for the price.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Good resort

The resort in general was good. It is close to the beach, the pools are nice, many activities to do. However food is not too good, specially the international restaurant, food lacks of taste, and the wifi is not good is your room is away from the lobby.

It’s a lovely place. Well maintained and very clean. Beaches are beautiful pools are really nice. The swim up bar pool was very dirty. This trip we didn’t go inl look like a cesspool unfortunately it was connected to the lap pool so I couldn’t do my swimming laps. The good news is there are many other pools to use that were perfect.The food was good unfortunately they always overcook their chicken and most meats. The furniture is really worn out in the common areas They need to replace all chairs and sofas really uncomfortable to sit on. The bedroom lights didn’t work and both sinks did not drain. They were also not fixed even though we brought it to their attention. overall we always have a wonderful time. We’re not really there for the food or fancy rooms. The rooms were cleaned very well every day. I have to say the people were much more friendly than they were the first time I was there. Happy to say I will be returning for my 65th birthday in April. Looking forward to another great week!!

Huge resort, very clean , beautiful, pretty modern nice and open would definitely recommend to friends, great food , adult pool section was also great.. quiet and calm....peaceful resort !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Very nice resort

Advantage of this resort is the access to other resorts and restaurants of Barcelo Maya. Nice, clean, high level service, everyone could find activities by their needs. Our room in Tropical was outdated and needs some fixing.

Occidental Cozumel: Very tranquil resort

Was recommended by a friend who visited 9yrs ago Room was very clean n bed were very comfortable. Ground had beautiful flourish n well maintained Workers friendly Absolutely recommend. And will probably be back. Quiet night life

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Amazing resort

Barcelo Bavaro Palace is a real palace! We really enjoyed our stay in this resort. Room , food, entertainment was excellent. Not much shade on the beach. It took a long time to check in. Still it was amazing and I would recommend to all my friends!

Barcelo Solymar: Amazing Lush Grounds & loved my 2 storey level bungalow SUITE in the bungalow villa! ♥ SO CUTE!

They were very accommodating, but my friend saw 2 cock roaches in his 2nd floor room (right above the 1st floor that is condemned) NONO!!! It took him 3 days to get the free upgrade to the top floor ocean view. MOST DEFINITELY DO NOT STAY ANYWHERE ON THE 1st floor, and try not to stay on the 2 [... read more]nd floor either. Get a bungalow suite= worth the money. The bungalow villa is fantastic!! NOTE* The difference between the bungalow and the bungalow suite is the bungalow suite has TWO floors with stairs and the bungalow does not. FOOD/DRINKS= we both loved the food and drinks here & NEVER went hungry! LOCATION= 10 minute walk to the Beatles Bar ( They play old rock n roll and metal here) NOT my style and the club called La Comparsita... Now we're talking!!! (Both downtown Varadero, a very short walk away ) HIT THIS CLUB UP ON A FRI OR SAT NIGHT ONLY. It's dead any other night. Also only pay $20 US and alcohol is all inclusive here that's right! Drink your ass off & get white girl wasted. (and they close late, with VIP upstairs for after hours. This club is octagon shaped with NO ROOF, with stage/live performers for part of the eve then DJ the latest hits (English and Spanish music combo)! Dance all night under the heat of the Cuban stars or dance in the warm rain...either way this club is a win 1000% ♥ SHOPPING= Do NOT bring debit cards or mastercards to the artisans vendors. They accept CAD$ US$ and Cuban pesos ONLY. You can take the hop on hop off bus that stops at each resort and through out the Varadero strip. It is $5 US but your bill must be new (they will NO accept any damaged/ripped/pieces missing money) You can ride this from morning till round 5:00 pm. ENJOY! Just got back from 11 days. Packed chocolate and nuts in my carry on. Brought a lil blanket and my own pillow. The blankets at this resort are the old brown scratchy ones... ICK. Go & enjoy, ask for what you need & want. Be assertive. This is YOUR trip you are paying them. Remember that.

Occidental Tucancun: Mediocre Resort

The hotel has too many stairs, you have to walk up and down too many stairs to get to the restaurants, to get to the pools and to get to the bars because nothing is on the same level. The adult only pool had ladders only to enter and exit and one was broken and not closed off. The food was less than acceptable. Cold, tasteless and not Mexican. The staff was amazing and the rooms were clean.

Occidental Punta Cana: Great Resort!

Overall, one of the nicest resorts we've been to. The pools, waterfront, food, etc. was all very good! The resort was spotless, in terms of garbage. Nightly entertainment could have been better, but overall, it was excellent.

Occidental Caribe: Good Resprt

Rooms are very clean and so is the resorts grounds. Traveller with a group of 4 and a 1 year old and always found things to eat. Beach is very nice as well. Overall I would recommend this to anyone not willing to spend lots of money on fancy resorts

The resort was very clean and the staff were wonderful the food was amazing and the "beach beautiful" my only complaint was there was very little entertainment, I have been to Cuba 16 times and this was very disappointing all the other times I have been there was always something to do on the beach in the discos and at the resort the only constant was bingo everyday :( the other problem was if there was something going no one knew where and when something was happening no announcements

Lots to do and beautiful beach. Staff was great and on point. Lots of restaurants and bars. Fun to walk around both day and night. I would recommend this resort for families since it’s very kid friendly

Great place to stay really clean,staff was friendly. Lots to do if you wanna be active or if you just want to go away to relax!Very family oriented lots of children activities pool slides shows Lots of walking. Food was fantastic! Drinks were also good! The weather was good in early January. Would recommend to others!???????????????

The resort is beautiful and the grounds are immaculately maintained. Dining options are excellent and service is very good. The beach is very nice but definitely bring water shoes as there is a lot of sharp coral everywhere. The lobbies are all gorgeous with lots of seating but with the lobby bar being further away, typically in an enclosed space, there is nothing to do in the lobbies.
