The beach was fabulous and the pool area was nice with something always going on. We were in one of the out buildings on the ground floor. The room was comfortable, clean and in a quiet area. We only went to the Italian Restaurant which was very romantic. The buffet dinning hall had something to eat for everyone and one of the better ones we have come across in Cuba. Overall great holiday and would recommend to everyone.

A memorable stay !
The resort was well located, simply appointed but clean. The staff was excellent and courteous. Very eager to help in any way possible. The pool and the beach front was close and wonderful. The food was surprisingly delisioso as we were told horror stories about food in the resorts before coming on this trip.

Better than expected !
We spent 5 nights at Melia las Antillas and this was our first visit ever to Cuba. As such we had tempered our expectations of accommodations and food considerably so perhaps this contributed to our being relatively pleasantly surprised ! We paid the extra for Concierge level service which got us access to a lounge located on the top floor which came in handy in the mornings for early coffee and on the last day where we had a late flight out of Cuba; we were able to rest there in the comfort of [... read more]Air Conditioning and with access to snacks ( limited in variety and quality ) and drinks. Our room had a very large and very comfortable bed facing a small balcony and a panoramic view of the sprawling resort. We asked for a sea view but the ocean was merely a sliver in the horizon. This resort accesses a wonderful beach but it is at least a 5-10 minute walk away depending on your stride. We travelled with friends and had similar evaluations of our amenities. Everything in our rooms worked - the bathroom had a smallish tub that had seen better days to be charitable but there were ample towels , including beach towels, and bathrobes in the room. The cupboard had a safe which we chose not to use and a bar fridge which was stocked daily with beer and soft drinks. On the second day a full size bottle of gin ( beefeater ), local rum and champagne were placed in the room along with a half a bottle of Chivas Regal ! A very large buffet was available for all meals - it would be more than ample for anyone to find something they could eat and all 4 of us found it actually to be a better option than most of the a la Carte restaurants. Servers are slow to respond to requests for the things that are served at the table and salt and pepper are almost non-existent. We all found the beef to be extremely tough whereas pork and chicken dishes were good. Fish was reasonably good but the prep station for it takes a long time. The only a la carte restaurant we liked was the one called "Romantico" - the food was "haute cuisine" and service very good. We thought the so called lobster-dinner was a farce - it consisted of 4 1/2 inch cross cut pieces of lobster with the shell and all in a tomato sauce of sorts. Everything is heavily salted during prep but no salt/pepper on the table. The resort is sort of "open" to the elements creating pleasant cross breezes most of the time - however : during the rains the hallways become flooded and create a danger for slipping. I probably would list this issue as being the main reason I wouldn't return unless they fix it at some point. Evening entertainment is available on two different terraces every night - we enjoyed it very much. The elevator worked most of the time but there were the odd outages which also affected water flow - though very briefly. One can exchange money at a premium in the hotel and there is also a tuck shop selling the usual holiday stuff as well as some Cuban items - all at a premium. Mostly we found staff to be extremely friendly but for this size of place I suppose there will always be the odd one who snaps or is less than service minded. Inexcusably, though, I found the Sunwing representatives to be extremely impolite and usually unavailable ! Nowhere to be found ! The so called briefing is a complete waste of time and on the last day I particularly was unable to get important departure and pick up information as the binder was missing all together. Do make the time to get off the resort - we arranged our own tours to Havana, Trinidad and into Vardero as well and enjoyed every bit !

Amazing staff! Great resort with really good food
We just spent a wonderful 2 weeks (April 30-May 14) at Melia Las Antillas. All staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for you. It is obvious they love their jobs and we heard many say so. Tons of staff around from cleaners to management and any would gladly help if you had questions. Service was awesome wherever we went. Drinks were good anywhere. Love the 24h lobby bar. But odd the pool bar was well stocked during the day but removed a lot of varieties at night (open to midnight). Food was r[... read more]eally good for Cuban standards and plentiful. The buffet offered a good variety (including thin crust pizza) and mussels, crab legs, octopus, squid, fish, chicken, pork, etc. etc. and all the sides. But people complain about the AC. Well let me just say if people (visitors) would close the doors behind them then maybe it would have a chance to cool down more.
The beach was obviously beautiful but no bathrooms near it so you had to walk back to the pool. The beach bar was great and the grill next to it were awesome. The pool was lots of fun with activities and games, but never overpowering if you wanted to just lay back and chill. The 2 resident sharks in their own pool/pond between the resort and pool were fun to feed and watch (but watch your fingers!). Yes, it had a sulfur smell near where the 4 pillars fed water into the pond, but not always offensive.
The resort itself is in slight need of some TLC. But still a great resort and very clean with staff constantly around cleaning, fixing, painting, etc. It is an older building so to be expected.
Our room was just OK but we booked a supersaver room so didn't have high expectations. The king bed was firm but very comfy. AC and fridge didn't work well at all but we managed just fine. After talking to others our issues were uncommon as theirs all worked great. We didn't let that spoil our vacation.
We intended to venture off the resort into Varadero (I had been before and wanted to go back and introduce my boyfriend to it) but in the end we didn't, we fell into total lazy vacation mode. Except one morning we walked down the street and watched some of the dolphin show from a bridge. The Dolphinarium was within walking distance from the resort. Walking back to our resort we saw 2 camels in a field in front of our resort. Unusual to see but so cool.
They have Cuba Day every Saturday on the lawn area and the food was awesome. They shut down the pool grill and buffet (except for the pizza oven). The grind sugarcane in front of you, roasted a pig on a spigot, had grilled lobster, ham, hamburgers, rice, fruit, delicious deserts, breads, and MUCH more. Plus music and entertainment. An awesome afternoon of food, drinks and fun.
We were thoroughly impressed with this resort and hope to return again.

Great time at Las Antilles!
If you want a small, well managed, adult resort with an amazing beach and friendly staff, this is the one for you. Good food and clean rooms. Meticulously groomed grounds. You won't be disappointed if you are a "friendly" traveler with respect for others.

Relaxing and enjoyable time
Booked 10 days with concierge service. This package had some extras that provided an enhanced check-in (although we missed our welcome drink) and pre booked al a cartes so we didn't have to stand in line. It also offers a continental breakfast which was not that appealing but allowed us to get coffee and juice prior to going to the buffet. Our initial impression of the room was disappointing as it just seemed blah and dated. Bathroom had some mold issues. However as time went on and we experienc[... read more]ed the rest of the resort we were more comfortable in the room. The expected 'oceanview' was a small peek through the trees as we were on the 4th floor - view from 5th floor was much better. The resort itself is quite wonderful. Could see lots of improvement work ongoing with painting and path stone work. The beach of course was fantastic. We conceded to claiming chairs early in the morning - something I have always been against but otherwise with no shade it was just to hot to any spend quality time on the beach. They were in the process of adding additional cabanas. Not much time spent at the pool but it was very nice. Exchanging $ was easy and never a long wait. For the first time we needed to seek medical attention and this went very well . Note - you have to pay cash up front then get reimbursed by your health plan at home.
Buffet and bar service - this varied day to day. Exceptional on some days but often we sat and never got served. No real issue - we just went to the bar ourselves. Buffet food was okay/ average. Great omelets though. We really enjoyed all the al a cartes and the acoustic musicians were A 1. Evening entertainment at the lobby bar was not up to par for Cuba - more on the electronic side and not all that professional. Annoying actually. No comparison to what we experienced on previous trips. The later nightly entertainment shows were away from the main hotel so we actually only say one - an aquatic show in the pool which was very good. All in all we were able to relax, enjoy the surroundings, meet new friends and again enjoy the Cuban vibe and people. I would recommend this resort with some reservations around the room and service.

Met All Our Expectations
Lovely small resort on the best beach. It is a little dated, but you can see the efforts to restore. Food was fine, room clean. Will return. Sixth trip to Cuba, rate this as our #2 Resort, Hicacos being #1.
Resort is not as good as the pictures show . Nice size. Rooms not that clean .food good .pool freezing . water surrounding the resort stinks. Very very slow service. No WiFi. Difficult to get changed to tip . Tip r not same service. .Orlando and Digna were the best servers.

Terrible
Cross contamination on grilling station , bugs in room. Switched to another room. More bugs , not a 4 1/2 star , staff rude. You are bothering them when you want a drink. Told me no water in rooms then when we tipped he brought me water , told me no extra pillows even though mine were dirty.

Just an okay resort
listed as a 4.5 star, it isn't! Should be listed as a 3 star. Inconsistencies in food, facilities, services and staff made for an interesting stay. When it was good, it was very good (food) when it was bad it was terrible (food poisoning due to poor food handleing). Many staff do not speak enough English to understand anything, so hope you can speak some Spanish. The good was the pool, the beach. Stay away from the a la carte restaurant El Romantico...we both got sick from the food, the service [... read more]was not friendly at all. We went Concierge and we were on the 5th floor. No water pressure in the shower. Lots of black mold on the tiles. Bed was good, but all furnishings (bedding/curtains etc) very old and dated and threadbare. The food in buffet was very good by Cuban standards but if you stay for more than 1 week, you will see the same thing offered. Gets pretty boring very fast. Shows were pretty sad! Would not stay here again, but it was okay, and much better than where we stayed last year (Royalton Hicacos.

Great location
Perfect size resort. Rooms are older but clean plenty of space. Both jacuzzi 's not working properly a little cool. Looks like they are continually doing reconstruction maintenance to the grounds. Elevator on its last legs. Lobby bathrooms were closed most of the week. older clientele nice and quiet. Food was good and staff very friendly and helpful. Not sure it would be good for people with mobility issues.

Review of Melia Las Antillas
We just got back from a 10 day stay at Melia Las Antillas. While the weather was mixed, our stay there was good. The food is very good at this resort, especially the fresh fish bar in the buffet. The beach is beautiful and there are lots of beach chairs. We opted for the concereige service and it was very good. Maylin in the concereige suite was really helpful and really worked to help solve any issues that came up for us. The down sides were that the bar often did not have all of the brands and[... read more] items that were promised. The other issue was that our Sunwing transfer to the airport did not show up and we had to take a taxi to the airport, which cost us about $50 Canadian.

Okay Resort if you get a good price
Food at the Buffet was very good for Cuba. Fresh, good selection. The staff at the buffet were the very best: Carlos, Thomas and Man'lin in particular. Bar service was a bit inconsistent. The Lobby bar was always very busy, bartenders were overworked and a bit cranky at times. Orlando was an exception. What a great guy! The pool bar never opened on time and had a couple good bartenders but also a couple who never cracked a smile all week . There were no washrooms near the beach, the nearest bein[... read more]g at the pool bar. The Men's room was closed and has been for quite some time so the ladies 3 stall washroom turned into a very busy washroom for both male and female at the same time. This pretty weird and put a lot of people off especially as it was the only washroom for pool, beach and Conoco restaurant. The beach itself was beautiful, plenty of chairs and had lifeguards, security and a fellow helping with chairs. The beach grill was under construction but should be operational shortly and great for beach goers (if there were a washroom)
There were 3 ala carte restaurants. We found the food and service to vary widely. The Cocono was questionable food quality, cleanliness and inconsistent service. I recommend skipping that one. The Italian restaurant food had mixed reviews between excellent and awful and had poor service and the romantico restaurant had excellent food and very good service by all accounts. All 3 restaurants had excellent musicians playing live dinner music.
There was a very smelly and foul looking water feature in the middle of the resort that needs to be dealt with in my opinion.
Overall the property had very friendly staff (aside from a few surly bartenders) but showed signs of aging. A lot of work was being done while we were there to make improvements.
Overall I would say it was on okay place with no MAJOR issues but I would return, or recommend to a friend only if it was on a bargain price.

Save Your Money and go somewhere else.
This resort was tired and in need of some TLC I traveled on Jan 6 -13 with my boyfriend from Hamilton, Ontario and we overall were not impressed with the food, service, or hotel. It definitely is not a 4.5 star resort. When we stayed they had several maintenance problems that included washrooms being out of service or in dire repair of maintenance and the mojito bar being closed on one of our last nights which was not acceptable. The beach is beautiful and clean lots of loungers available. Our r[... read more]oom was musty and it seemed to always be damp our clothes would never dry when we set them out. Our maid Lucy was great she always made sure we had our drinks filled and the room was clean, also Carlos the Food and Beverage Manager always said hello and made sure we where enjoying our meals which was nice to see him talking with the guests. I would not recommend this resort to anyone unless they solve there maintenance problems as it was a hindrance on our vacation.

Amazing Resort with Great Food and Beach
Amazing resort. The food is exceptionally good! New Years Eve celebration supper was amazing - the best buffet experience with endless lobster!! The beach area was also amazing, as it has powdery sand, clean and clear turquoise water that you could walk in for a distance! The service was impeccable, as everything was as expected and staff were always helpful and ready to satisfy. The VIP Concierge service was a great add on feature that was well worth the value at this resort and extra recogniti[... read more]on deserving to the concierge staff in the fifth floor lounge - top notch service! The only area that I would say needs some attention is in the nightly shows at the stage area - in my opinion, there needs to be more entertainment variety to the shows, not just always dancing/singing.

Melia Las Antillas
The resort itself needs to be upgraded, 16 years old, the rooms were decent size but need to be updated, wood dressers refinished, walls painted, etc. Pools are beautiful, ladies bathroom by pool just redone. Beach bar just reopened. Beach is beautiful. Food was surprisingly very good, buffet excellent. The front lobby needs some tile work done. Only 350 rooms, never too busy in any of the areas. Staff very pleasant and friendly. Nightly entertainment very good.

Beautiful Resort, a great place to stay
The room was clean - a little dated but we spent very little time in the room! Beach was gorgeous, the staff was very friendly and helpful; I would definitely stay here again. The buffet food was average for Cuba but once we discovered the omelette station for breakfast, the pool restaurant for lunch and the hot pasta station for dinner, all was good. A la Carte restaurants were all very good as well, especially for chicken and fish/seafood. One note - didn't realize until we got there that they[... read more] want men to wear long pants in the restaurants (not buffet) - my husband had to wear his 1 pair of pants 5 times!
