Amazing

poor service at the bars. not to many staff members can speak english. grounds were kept nice. staff always expect tips for poor service. lack of staff. staff always wanting to sell things on the side like trips to havanna. pools are not heated. lack of water in rooms. hit and miss.

Excellent resort!

Had a wonderful time at this resort. The main things we loved: amount of shade and not fighting for beach chairs, the close proximity to the airport and Varadero, friendly staff and an amazing golf course! We didn't love the food, but it was definitely better than most resorts we've visited in Cuba. We also wished there was more of a lively scene after 11pm, as we were a younger couple. Overall, it was a great experience!

Grand Resort

2nd time at this resort. Staff are friendly once you get to know them. Food is good and of course the reason we return is the amazing beach pool set up and the cozyness of the resort and the Cuban people.

A few changes but still the place to go

service was the best we ever had maid services amazing , beach bar food great staff at your table with in minutes, golf bar food very good but golf bar can get very busy at times. Overall no complaints

Great place

Great place I travel somewhere warm every year and this is got to be one of the best resorts and friendliest people I’ve ever ran into. I would recommend this resort to many of my family and friends.

Wonderful resort

The resort was lovely and clean. The food was excellent except could be warmer at the buffet. The a la cartes were amazing and food was excellent! The beach was lovely. Staff were pleasant and kind. Lots of stairs.

Best place ever

We were worried about going to Cuba because we heard the food sucked and I have gotten food poisoning on previous trips. This place was recommended to us by a friend who has been 12 times. The food was amazing, Wednesday lunch on the beach where they cooked paella right behind where we were sitting and slow cooked a pig, I had 3 servings of paella and two pork sandwiches and it was delicious. That night we were to eat at Limoncello and I ordered the lobster gnocchi, they used too much truffle  [... read more]oil but the lobster was delicious, I left the pasta as saturated in oil and I was still stuffed from lunch. There are 4 restaurants and the buffet, even the buffet was good, the pasta bar was where we ate the two nights we ate at the buffet, I suggest looking at the veggie options and then picking some up first from the other areas to add to your pasta, I would typically get broccoli and mushrooms and bring over, my husband got his cooked pasta, took it to another station and got calamari cooked and added. I did pesto, garlic and Alfredo sauce. We both loved the meals. Because it’s a golf included hotel (and we don’t golf) it is always possible to get a lounge chair at the ocean, which is steps away from the hotel. And playing in the ocean waves was how we spent our days or walking to the plaza beside the hotel (buy your souvenirs here rather than at the hotel) or walking along the beach. There are kayaks, paddle boats and small catamarans on the beach for your use. And games and activities galore. Wifi is limited and 1.50cuc per hour, it was nice to unplug for a week, I would preload instagram, pretype my thoughts for the day and connect in the evening and the hour lasted the whole week. The king size bed is really two twin beds pushed together, they remade up the bed with one set of bedding after our first night which resolved that issue, there is still a big crack down the middle but at least you could “cuddle” easier. Rooms are very clean with a stocked mini-fridge that I only found on our last day. As it’s on a peninsula you basically get an ocean view from either side, we had the “non-ocean” side which overlooks the golf course first, then the ocean. We were on the fourth floor and the balcony is small but fine for two. No hair conditioner supplied, but everything else there. The air conditioner worked too well, as my husband had it cranked so low I froze until I put a blanket on the bed. As it’s adult only you get an older crowd which was fine with us but some of the younger people we met were disappointed in this or would take a cab ($10.00 cuc on way) to town to a bar called the “beetle” and apparently it was amazing. The people (staff) were amazing and so nice to talk to and helpful. It’s very safe in Cuba as no guns and no drugs, you can walk the beach at night without concern. We only went on one excursion, but next year we plan on going to the cities.

Great golf trip

Hotel, beach, food, service, golf course.....everything was great. They could use some more staff at the bars to reduce wait times. REAL Coca-Cola would improve the quality of drinks as mix and get rid of the additional fees for premium liquors.

Great beach-Great people

Had a super time. Walk out the main lobby and a few steps and you are on a glorious beach. Food was good and service was great. We did not golf, but if you are a golfer, this the the place to be. A beautiful course right beside the resort. We will return.

Disappointed

Was at the same property two years ago and the food quality has dropped. Other than a few bad meals it’s still pretty good for Cuba but it use to be great! They are doing some renovations and we had an updated bungalow which was nice. The staff are friendly and try very hard. Would go back but they would have to drop the price to reflect the drop in food quality.

Wonderful Resort

I had a great time. It's a beautiful resort, with wonderful staff. Very helpful, very energetic and amazing for couples and families! I would definitely recommend trying out the specialty restaurants!

Beautiful resort! Friendly staff.

We enjoyed our stay over all. The only complaint would be the restaurants could not honour reservation times sitting is over an hour after the reserved time. However the staff and performers were amazing and so friendly.

So addictive, you never want to leave

I would like too start with, Cuba made me forget the rest of the world. My experience at Melia Las Americas was indescribable.This resort and Cuba in general, opened a whole new world for me. This was the first country I have visited other then Lebanon, and I now want to travel the world. 5 days was way to short.. I wouldn't mind living at Melia Las Americas. The days felt timeless and stress free. The second you arrive you're treated like family by the most generous, genuine people. Besides the [... read more] beautiful beaches and pools and weather, I was hooked by the staff and the kindness and care they expressed, It was beyond amazing. It suited everyones interests. You wanted to spend a relaxing quiet vacation by the water, their was quiet areas at the beach and pools. You wanted to experience the traditional Cuban culture, it was filled with different opportunities like live old traditional music, dancing on the beach, visiting the locals flee market. If you enjoy the modern party atmosphere, music, dancing, and flashing lights were provided further down along the beach which continued until late at night. I cant even finish the long list of the different enjoyable activities and adventures you can enjoy.

Amazing vacation

After a 5 star resort stay in Mexico I was told to lower my expectations on Cuba as it would not be comparable. I would have to say for the most part that is not true. The Melia Las Americas was at least a 4.5 star resort. The food was amazing - yes I said amazing - The a la carte restaurants exceeded our expectations and the buffet was fantastic - they even changed out the food every day so you did not get bored with the selection. There is a 24 hr bar on site that has the best onion rings I've [... read more] ever had and the French fries are amazing. Raul and Simon at the lobby bar are show stoppers! The only down side I encountered referring to the rooms was the bathroom in the room we had was very outdated and dirty - not dirty in that it needed to be cleaned but hard water stains on the tiles that need to be cleaned weren't. The service is not what we expected either - compared to Mexico I would rate it a 4 in service - the people were friendly for the most part but never went out of their way until the last day when we left a bag of goodies for them. The Grounds are amazing and the beach is a 5+star except there is a small access point on one half of the beach that is public and it amazed us that the public comes on to the beach and takes the beach chairs from the resort to the public side and that the resort patrons are left with no where to sit while the security guards walk around and do nothing about it .... This was really only an issue on the weekends but still we paid a lot of money for the beach and someone should be policing that more effectively. Our Hola Sun rep was no where to be found - she was an hour late the first day and we looked for her to ask some questions on other days and never saw her again... Also be wary of the pick up time they note in the binders - our pick up was t 445 and they showed up at 4 we had top get dressed in the airport because we were still in our bathing suits, no shower salt water hair and skin for a 4 hour flight home was disgusting !! ...... Other then the few items noted here the place is amazing I would highly recommend it

Not great

This hotel was ok. It wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't good. The view was of course stunning. The food was really really bad. We also had to wait hours to get cod mediocre food. We paid American prices to stay here. I am from NYC and am used to exhorbited prices but the service did NOT match. One hour for cold French fries and grilled cheese that was also cooked incorrectly. Front desk staff was the worst I have ever experienced. They were just really taking whoever they wanted first st check  [... read more]in. Reedming qualities were the view beach and the staff other then the front desk. I wouldn't go back here but I would go back to that beach!

Excellent resort-people very friendly-clean-activities were outstanding-room was exceptional

there was a variety of food with tastes for everyone the staff was very friendly & helpful and we wanted for nothing the room was outstanding and far above our expectations next vacation to Cuba will be at Melia Las Americas for a longer stay

WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT

This is a beautiful resort, with very friendly staff. The food had flavour (which for Cuba is saying a lot from our past experience). We arrived later in the evening just before the buffet was closing for the night. Boris was checking us in, and advised to go get something to eat and we could finish checking in after. (awesome - we were starving) We had our first experience with Manuel in the restaurant - absolutely amazing. We also met Wilfredo in the buffet restaurant - he was just as great as Manuel. The bungalow we were in was large, clean and comfortable ( and it hadn;t been renovated yet) Living room area, dining room area, large bedroom, walk in closet - 2 sliding doors to the veranda. We were very close to all restaurants, and the bungalow was super close to the swim up pool with the snack bar. We spent most of our time there as the pool was hardly used by anyone else. There were 4 cabana's and several deck loungers. Alberto was our main bartender there - he makes an absolutely delicious Banana Mama. He is also super friendly. The beach was clean and very sandy. The next resort over was a bit rockier - but you could go on either. There are several excursions you could do, but we chose not to go on any this time. We were speaking with another guest who comes back every year for a golf tournament - he said it is a good course that is fun to play. (for any golfers out there)

Great resort

Nice bright lobby, our suite was very spacious and in a quiet part of the resort. The staff was helpful and Roberto on the entertainment team was awesome! Best meal was at the snack bar, Jolie is the best chef and never let us down with what ever we ordered! Can't wait to go back.

OUR SECOND STAY AT MELIA LAS AMERICAS IN VARADERO

We stayed at Melia las Americas last December and we were so impressed that we decided go back on Feb 26 for 2 weeks. It was nice to meet again our favorite: the professional pianist Lilia, in the lobby most of the evenings. We bough her CD last time that we played at home, and it was a real pleasure to share her wonderful artistry. The operatic singers “ A Tempo Classico “, singing in the lobby were again outstanding. We had a Non smoking bungalow close to the pool and beach. and  [... read more] were surprised to find a big ashtray in the living room. We believe that all the rooms should be Non smoking. We found the beds to be very hard, even with additional toppers that the hotel provided. The lower of the 2 Bungalows swimming pools is very slippery and does not have a hand rail. During the 4 days of high waves, the tombonas /beach beds were removed from the lower beach area and never put back when the weather got nicer. We had to carry one down to the beach ourselves as we could never see any staff looking after them. Next beach at Melia Varadero, many tombonas were available on both levels of the beach.. Our favorite singers at the bar La Cascada were Bianka and Giancarlo . We were dancing 4 times a week while they were singing a great variety of songs. The other nights 2 different groups were singing at La Cascada, both with extremely, extremely loud music that made us leave the room immediately. We even asked Las Esmeraldas group to lower the sound on 2 different evenings but they ignored us and we left. We had dinner at the International restaurant Arcada. The quartet played remarkably well. The person who seated us was arrogant, which diminished our enjoyment. We had wonderful waiters at the Buffet restaurant, in order of excellence : Katy, Emilito, Valdin, Mercy, Marlon, Betty (Beatriz), Dany, Sussi, Maybeline L, Aurorita. The food was good to very good in the evenings. Our friendly chambermaid, Yalamara, kept our bungalow spotless. Just outside the lobby, there is a smoking seating area with tables and chairs with the most magnificent view of the beach, garden, etc. Being allergic to second hand smoke, we did not have the pleasure to enjoy it. The general manager, Bernard is very friendly and was greeting and talking to most of the guests. Melia las Americas is a beautiful resort. It has a breathtaking golf course. We do not golf, but enjoyed walking around it. We enjoyed the nice weather, swimming in the ocean and in the pool. Most of the staff are friendly. The gym is well equipped. By the way, we did not encounter any mosquitoes. Yes, we will return.

A resort thats above any thing we seen to date

food was amazing from morning to night always something available .you don't feel well one day room service 24/7 wife was sick for a day staff brought a special tea to make her feel better and she did . beach is one of the best I have ever seen service at the beach bar very good . lobby bar staff made us feel like family all the staff at this resort was very respectful and were there when you needed something golf walk out the main gate and you are on the course and the course is in terrific sha [... read more]pe and golf is included but the main thing I noticed was the Manager was greeting everyone all through the hotel everyday he made time to see if there was anything he could do to make your trip better
