Excellent Resort

This resort is a true gem. The staff are so friendly, kind and considerate. The food is getting better and better in Cuba. So don't let the negative reviews fool you. I would recommend this resort highly I would also recommend using O'Neil Graham from tripcentral.ca. He was amazing to deal with.

Expected much more !

We went to the Sol Palmeras thinking it's a 4+star and so the service / accomidation / service would be 4+ but we were disappointed. We stayed in Bungalow 229, although we loved the rustic Cuban feel in staying in a Bungalow the ants that erupted in the washroom attracted to the toothpaste I suppose was not appreciated at all. We called the customer service and they sent someone to clean up immediately but the spray aerosol they used was not kid friendly at all! So we lived with ants for a week! [... read more] The hassle of being moved to another bungalow with 2 young kids was not feasible. Plus why should we need to - we paid for our place and it should be clean. Second dispointment was we had to line up to get a seat at the Buffet - how bizarre! You'd think the resort would have capacity in consensus with the no of guests. When we got in the hostess took us to the back of the dining room saying the stroller will be just in the way - not very welcoming at all! The beach was good, food as per Cuban standards nothing to write home about and the activities all average. Certainly will not be returning to the Melia Group if this is what their sister resorts have to offer. And we travel each year. So Melia is out for sure.

Good resort

The grounds were clean. Food was better than expected. I have never been to Cuba before. We enjoyed the shows and access to the Varadero bus. Internet was always down which was upsetting because we really wanted to check in in the kids and grand parents. Front desk service was atrocious. Worst I've seen. I exchanged $300 cnd when we got. There and she gave me only $200 Cuc equivalent. Maybe an honest mistake.... I pointed it out and she corrected it. But the front desk was very slow for [... read more] money exchange, check in and check out. They only ever had one computer working and there was never am organized line. People cut in front and waited at the counter and got served first. It was very annoying.

Great Resort!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed this resort. It was clean, well maintained. Since my husband has a disability it was suitable and not to big. We stayed in the main building on the 4th floor, not in the bungalows. Lots of things going on poolside or at the beach. Beach bar and restaurant was nice to have. Lots of water activities. Live music most nights in the lobby. Several shows in the evening, however we were usually in our room before they started. The steak house and Chinese restaurants were our favorites. We didn't eat in the Mexican or seafood one so not sure how they were. The buffet food was generally ok. As with any resort you get tired of it near the end of the vacation. Food overall was pretty good, it could use some improvements. The drinks were plentiful, with the exception of the red wine could be a little better. Check in was extremely slow, however we were told they had just started a new system so I am sure it will improve. We would definately return to this resort.

Great resort for families with young kids!

This hotel had excellent staff/service, cleanliness, amazing beach, evening shows, and food options - not only by Cuban standards. Travelling with young kids (5 and 2), this resort is highly recommended for young families. Hotel rooms and beds may be dated, but that should not take away from the amazing service and other resort facilities.

Sol Palmeras

The bungalow was beautifully situated where we could see the water and hear the ocean's roar especially at night. also, a short walk to everything---- the beach, juice bar;icecream kiosk,several restaurants ; bars and buffet. The layout of the pools, sitting areas and grounds were colourful and and carefully manicured. Our bungalow was very private---spacious ---and comfortable. It was my first time at this resort and I will return and recommend it. The people who served us in [... read more] the restaurants; at the bar{especially Robert at the far end of the upstairs} and Dayana who greeted us warmly with a note and a "white rose" left in our bungalow and was so helpful throughout our stay made our holiday a beautiful experience.

Myth: People don't go to Cuba for the food

With 3 previous trips to both Cuba and the Dominican, we simply thought good food in the Caribbean was impossible. WRONG! The food at Sol Palmeras was amazing. Not only was our plate full after a walk through the buffet line, but many, many nice options never made it to our table. A la cartes included the Steak House, Mexican, Italian and Chinese. Our original room in the main hotel was alright, but the fridge made a loud bang and the bed was less than comfy. We had requested an upper floor and both our son's room and ours was on the ground floor. Our son upgraded his room to a bungalow on the 2nd morning and when we saw his, we did the same for an extra 120 CUC's. Unfortunately, a couple we met on a Havana excursion told us they got an upgrade to a bungalow as well - FOR FREE! Lots of great beach. Many palapas. Ping pong, tennis, giant chess & Connect 4, and lots of other activities. Nightly entertainment a little weak. Cuban internet is a pain. Overall, absolutely great value and highly recommended.

Wonderful place

The hotel itself, rooms, public places are all good, bars everywhere, snacks and delicious ice cream served almost all the time. The only problems are lot of mosquitos in rooms (we stayed on the ground floor) and mojito with too much sugar in it:) 4 stars for food because some restorants don't cook delicious food (ex. mexican. but italian and seafood serves realy delicios food). The beach is amazing!!!

Amazing Experience

Good food, good service, the pool was amazing!!! This was an amazing trip!!! We went for a friends wedding and it was just beautiful. The pool was always clean and the pool bar was amazing!!! I love sol palmeras!!!

Great Resort for a Great Experience!!

The hotel and resort are a pleasure from start to finish. The lobby has a beautiful layout and decorations that draw you in until you reach the magnificent beach. The rooms are cozy are clean and the accommodations are well thought-out. The staff is very friendly and personable to create a comfortable environment for everyone. The resort has a wide variety in activities and restaurants to keep you well entertained and fed throughout your entire stay. More Than I Expexted

This hotel is definetely a four star. The rooms were immaculate as well as the grounds. The bar staff at times were a little slow especially at the pool bar. Being in Cuba my expectations for food wasn't high but i was pleasantly surprised, the food at the buffet was amazing, the chinese restaurant was upon my expectations( we went twice) The mexican for lunch I will give a 5 star on food but a 3.5 on service. I would definetly recommend this hotel to my friends. Stayed May 7th to May 14 2016

Up to reputation

Sol Palmeras lives up to its 4 star reputation. The staff is very accommodating and friendly, the bungalow I was assigned to was clean, very comfortable and allowed for an escape to a completely quiet zone when necessary. Great value for the money invested!

A very satisfying experience at Sol Palmeras

The hotel is very clean and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good and the variety is excellent. The beach is amazing as well the pool. The resort is very clean and I would recommend to my friends and family.

Nice but Mouldy

This place is gorgeous, the lobby is captivating, the pools are gorge, the restaurants are amazing the food is great BUT!!! the rooms are mouldy and if you walk on the main floor, the smell of mould slaps you in the face. I had to change rooms four times to get a room without the smell. I loved this place, the staff was awesome, but I will never go back here again.

Decent resort

Overall the resort was decent. I traveled with my young son and there were many activities to keep him entertained. The snorkeling was 20 CUC extra each but was totally worth it. Lots of sports equipment and the beach is amazing. We had no issues getting a chair at the pool or beach. Food was ok. Ranged from chain buffet type to fairly good. None of the food was amazing. Nice sized balcony, room and bathroom were simple but clean. The hotel needs some upgrades. The beds were terrible, just awful. Rooms had no clock, or no coffee maker. I've never seen a hotel room let alone a resort with no clock. Maids did a great job with tidying every day. I would return with children for a short vacation as the area was incredible but I would not return if it was just my husband and I. There were many children and there is nothing romantic about this place. Walls and doors are very thin!

Disappointing

Bungalow room in disrepair, right down to holes in sheets. Was expecting rustic 4 star being Cuba - but badly disappointed. Hotel & grounds good, pool average, beach beautiful, food ok - but stomach/digestive issues.

Fabulous Resort Amazing Staff

Arriving at the hotel check in was a breeze, we had requested 2 bungalows side by side in a central area as we were traveling with kids 8, 15 and 19 we were very happy to have exactly that! The bungalows were spotless and kept clean our whole stay. Fresh towels and supplies daily, thank you Dasey! We did have a problem with the air conditioner in one of the bungalows which was fixed within 2 hours. Over all the food was excellent. Omelettes made exactly the way you want! The staff at the hotel were pleasant and very helpful with information we needed they never made us wait for anything. From the ones who drove the train, Jimmy to the guys at the lounge bar Carlos, Rene, Alain, Fernando and Francisco in the snack kitchen. The grounds were always being maintained and cleaned. (amazing how disrespectful people are when it's not their own?) The lounges at the pool and beach were in great condition. Yuneil and Orlando who looked after the pool and beach were amazing, always had the perfect amount of shade and sun for the lounge! The beach towels were in excellent condition and Alexis always had a smile. The activities were endless, dancing with Yamile by the pool to volleyball on the beach, basketball on the court or playing ping-pong or darts! Madeline served the best ice cream! And of course the front desk, the guys who drove the carts and the ones in the kitchen, the staff at Sol Palmeras did a fabulous job! Our family had an amazing time and I highly recommend going.

Beautiful resort

This hotel was a great family vacation hotel. Spacious suite with huge bathroom, balcony and seep rate bedroom. Perfect family of four of 2 couples. Buffet restaurant was fantastic and so were all the staff.

Wonderful resort for families/

The staff at the reception. house-keeping and the main restaurant were fabulous! There were some minor difficulties at one of the a la carte restaurants when trying to seat a family of 9 people together at one large table. Great facilities for youngsters. The grounds maintenance seemed to be of lower priority, particularly around the bungalows.

Decent Resort

We had a nice stay at Sol Palmeras. Our room was nice and very clean, the beds and pillows were excellent. we always found something to eat at the buffet although repetitive and a little bland. The 2 a la carte that we ate at were very good. One big problem, they don't have enough beach chairs. It didn't matter if you were at the pool or the beach.
