This is my second visit to HI. There was construction going on in the main building but we were never affected. The service was amazing and bar staff made sure your ice never melted. The resort does not have a nightlife so for 2 young females some of our nights were quiet. I would encourage booking excursions for the beginning of the week and party thurs-sat. Rooms were always tidy and neat. I even dropped a necklace and the room keeper left me a note and said she found it on the floor. Front de [... read more]sk was always helpful. Booking excursions, dinner and massage were simple and fast. Beach was always kept clean and we never went without a chair. Lifeguards would even fetch a chair if there wasn't one close. Food was amazing, definitely try the Japonese. It is worth it to leave the resort because you are so close to everything.

Our favourite resort

This was our third stay at Sunspree. We love everything about it. The several small beaches allow a more relaxed visit and everything is close at hand. We particularly love the authenticity of the Jamaican cuisine. The staff were helpful and friendly. We will return for sure.

Great 3 star Resort

I didn't go in with high expectations because I knew it was a 3 star hotel. The service was great. Very friendly and courteous staff. The room was nice and AC was working amazing (slightly loud but rather that then a hot room) beach was lovely. The addition of the little island was definitely a bonus. Loved the Jerk Hut. The a la care restaurants were great. Loved the Japanese one. Very entertaining and great food. Obviously there were some downsides but nothing to ruin a vacation. The buffet food was hit or miss. The omlette station was delicious. The food at the grill was so so. The washrooms in the rooms were on the small size. You could fit only one person at a time. A few days before we left they started some renovations so you can hear construction and they had to change the location of some of the meals. Overall I know there are nicer resorts in Jamaica but for the price we paid of $950 for a superior room we got an great vacation. Definitely recommend for families.

Breathtaking

In a word – stunning! One of the most beautiful resorts we have ever stayed at. For us we felt like we were in Santorini Greece minus the blue domes. Pros • Not very busy • Friendly staff • Food • Beautiful location and building • Free Wifi (slow but good enough to check in) • Air transat rep was excellent and always available • Very clean • Bar fridge and coffee in the room • Good swimming beach To be Aware of: • Be prepared to tip a lot, ATM is on location • Smoking is [... read more] allowed anywhere on the resort even the restaurants • Be prepared for lots of stairs or be willing to wait for a pick-up • Communication on events or activities is limited- could be improved upon as we missed out on several special events and food servings • Bring bug spray and itch treatment • Lounge chairs hard to sit on as don’t put out cushions • Some of higher end drinks are an up charge such as spiced rum • Cannot drink the tap water We would return to this resort again, we were very happy with the experience.

Family resort

The rooms were clean minus the cockroach I found. The food was good but if you are looking for an adult oriented getaway, this resort is not for you. Lots of kids running around. Our plane was delayed two hours in Toronto and nothing was offered by Air Transat to compensate for this inconvenience. Then we had to wait for three hours for a room at resort only to find out we couldn't get a room with two beds, another disappointment.

Good resort

The hotel is very clean, friendly staff, food is excellent. Hotel is in need of an upgrade in the rooms. They are clean, but need to update the bathrooms.This is a very good resort for families with small children.

We will definitely go again!

The pros: The price was right! The staff were all friendly, the food was very good, the resort itself was clean & well maintained. Has an adult pool & adult only beach area. Neat layout that allows a lot of quiet beach areas. And of course a large, family pool & beach area. Bonus: smoking is only allowed in designated areas, as it is a family friendly resort. The cons: You have to get up very early in the morning (or late at night!) to go and put towels down on loungers in the shady areas of the beach. This seems ridiculous, but as long as the hotel allows this, those travelers wanting/needing some shade have to do so. Note to Hotel Mgmt: Do NOT allow towels to be placed before 6 am (or 5?), and then enforce this! Take the towels that are put down before the specified time. This will stop the annoying and inconvenient practice. (The one night we stayed up late, we saw numerous towels down already - and it was only 11:30 pm!) Although the rooms were standard Caribbean/hotel rooms...king bed, desk/chair, sofa, bathroom, they did have a very large, open closet to hang your clothes and 4 large, deep drawers to put things away. Also lots of plugs to charge your e-toys (2 plugs on each side table lamp.) Wifi was free throughout the resort, although quicker in the am. Overall a very enjoyable, relaxing holiday!

"My Caribbean Vacation" at a Holiday Inn.....

A typical Hoilday Inn caribbean style. Great for the kids , family , couples that just want to be home away from home. Everything is fine, but just fine , drinks are good food is fresh and plenty of staff to take care of you.

It's OK, not great and not bad

Rooms are clean, staff friendly, food is good at both buffet and the sit downs. Jerk chicken hut is very good along with children pool area BBQ (burgers, hot dogs and grilled cheese). Adult beach and pool area is nice, clean and not hard to find a spot to settle down in ( no need to rush down early in the morning to secure a spot). Adult beach is small and not deep at all, watch for sea urchins though, advise to wear swim shoes but easy to spot. night entertainment is ok more it seems for kids.  [... read more]Hotel is dated but there is renovations going on to spruce it up. close to the airport, suggest stay in buildings 3-7 and avoid building 1 facing the pool as it gets extremely hot on the balcony in the afternoon and is loud from the pool and entertainment. stayed as a couple and spent all the time at the adult sections. looks great for young families...

Awesome resort

Great food, beach and accommodations Staff very friendly and eager to please adult pool overcrowded island across from the beach very relaxing way to spend your day excursions well worth the money will return for a third time

Nice but time worn

The hotel was very family oriented. The fact that there was a designated adult beach and pool was fabulous as we were not travelling with children. The food was very good. You had to pay at the Japanese restaurant and for extra like surf & turf at the Seabreeze. The rooms were very basic but clean. Although we did have 2 cockroaches in our room they moved us immediately and we never saw another one nor had anyone else we spoke to. The people were very friendly and helpful. The lounging areas wer [... read more]e not very comfortable and there was no after dinner coffee area where you could sit and relax. The price was reasonable for this resort. Maintenance was being conducted in building 7 which should have been done on the off season as well some pool maintenance should have been done. The pool and hot tub was clean and chairs plentiful at the beach and the pool. The resort was very safe - patrolled regularly. There was not a beach to walk on as they were broken up in areas and you could not leave the resort and walk the beach like other places.

If you like my comments...this is the place

Music blasts from 10 AM till 2 AM Daily soup is almost same every day, except flavour is added, i.e. chicken, beef, pork, sea food. Only three restaurants are included, Japanese is $20 extra per. Food and beverages services are not Holiday Inn, but local independent company runs them. Room have noisy a/c that comes on every 5 minutes for 3 minutes, 24/7 If you want to sleep at night, too bad. Your next door neighbour is so loud, that you can't fall a sleep. And it is on top of 15-20 or so people [... read more] "dancing" to disco loud music until 2:00 AM. If you like all of above, come. If not, DO NOT. I will not recommend this to my worst enemy, but I do not have enemies. One family deprives poeple with rserving 8 chairs every day in shade for 6 hours, only to come for 1 or 2 in the afternoon. They put their stuff on chairs at 3 AM to make sure....you know the people like this... Bottom line - you get what you pay for. This is in the bottom of my list of all Carribean resorts I have visited for last 25 years. If you decide to come, ask to be in building 5-7, as far away from main lobby. Unless you like 100 dBa noise.

All of my needs and expectations were met here!

For those of us who prefer to spend our travel funds exploring and sampling the culture of the places we visit, rather than blow it on glamorous accommodations, H. I. Sunspree more than surpassed my expectations. The staff are friendly, informative and helpful. Breakfast and lunch buffets were great, but some of the evening buffets could get monotonous, so we tended to book an a la carte restaurant almost every evening. The filet mignon (Italian a la carte) and the "browned" red snapper (Seafood a la carte) as well as the mussels in a tomato and wine sauce will live on in my memories for some time. Top rate chefs at the a la cartes! BTW: I met several guests who were vegetarians and they said that they were very happy with the food at the buffets. I am an avid foodie, so I will give the buffet service a 4 out of 5, which is saying a lot for resort food. I have often thought that resorts should prepare some basic beef or chicken stews, and have pots of different broths or sauces on the side so that people who love curry can jazz up their stews. I often took the broth from a curry dish to jazz up the rice or veggies on offer. Loved the kids bar when I was yenning for something basic: nothing like chicken fingers and fries to fill my tummy after too much indulging the day before. The kids had a huge secured playground and excellent pools to play in - I never used the pools, opting for the amazing island across from the resort. This resort has several beaches so you are never exposed to the noise of deliriously happy children frolicking about in paradise if you don't want to be. They never bothered me: I am not fond of Adults only resorts. Snorkeling was amazing in the island area. I would highly recommend this resort, especially for families, but we singles had no complaints, either. Thanks to all the staff at Sunspree for one of the most memorable vacations of my life. Irie!

Incredible vacation at an incredible resort

- The food could not have been any better - The staff were so friendly and genuine - The beach was absolutely beautiful and well maintained - The rooms were very clean and comfortable to stay in - 9 minute drive from the airport in Montego Bay Overall an excellent experience and a reason that I will most defiantly be returning to Jamaica!

Amazing resort and staff

Just came back Feb 11, went with 4 other adults and 3 kids 3-12 years. Were not satisfied where are room was so told air transat rep at hotel and were moved the second day. we were there for 14 nights, last year went for 7 nights.The evening service in buffet and Sorrento was wonderful. I am not very good with names but I do remember Christopher at the Barefoot shack with all the bacon cheeseburgs ans grilled cheese sandwiches and fries that you could eat. I hope this doe's not reflect on the price because right now it is very resonable. I love the manmade island it stops the ocean waves and makes it much easier to get into it. My friend and I plan on going back next year for 10 or 11 days, I got homesick. Great service great pool great vacation.

Pleasantly surprised

Just got back on February 11 2015- after reading the reviews we had low expectations but I would recommend this hotel to everyone! We booked a 7 day all inclusive through trip central.... There was a shuttle bus waiting for everyone through air transat.... The rooms were holiday inn standard but clean and everything worked..... The food was great, entertainment was great and plenty of lounge chairs for all.... The food and drinks were plentiful. The pool had daily entertainment for adults and kids.... Our kids 14 and 10 loved the ice cream, popcorn and jerk hut. If you wanted to leave the resort to go to bars, there were shuttles that took you there and back... We walked off the resort to go across the street shopping and felt extremely safe...... I want to go back!

Great times at the Sunspree

Best budget vacation ever.. spent 7 nights from Jan 26-Feb 2, 2015 .. wanted to go to Negril but the price was not right. Could not turn down the deal at the Sunspree. Food was fantastic and always available. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Tipping the bartenders/servers a dollar or two really goes a long way for better service. Lots of room on the beach and plenty of chairs available. The man made island is awesome! Very relaxing environment. The ocean had a lot of seaweed in it and the  [... read more]reef was very close to the shore so if you like swimming in deep ocean water the Sunspree may not be the best place for you. Adults only area at the west end of the resort was always busy but was a good spot to get away from children. The craft market located off the resort near the AO beach provided you with anything you would ever need for your Jamacian vacation. Tonys shop had the best selection and deals, look for him in the bold black ADIDAS hat. Rooms were adequate as we did not spend much time there. Snorkelling is great along the pier and the east/west end of the manmade island.. bring your own snorkel gear as the resort will not provide them if they are under red flag (we had red flag 6 of 7 days, very windy week.) Many different species of all different sizes in waist deep water. The nightly entertainment was actually amazing, they hire outside acts to come in and perform - so you don't have to watch the pool boy dress up like the Phantom of the Opera. I was surprised how good it was as I'm not usually one who enjoys the nightly entertainment. Overall, great vacation at the right price. we booked last minute (6 days in advance)

Great Place for Families

We just returned from the Holiday Inn Sunspree in Jamaica. We were a group of 8 adults. The staff at this resort should be commended for their friendly and helpful nature. All staff had a smile and a ya man everyday. The rooms are cleaned and stocked daily and the resort is immaculate. Orville (water sports) was our favorite of the week. He tried to ensure we were having a great time and told us many interesting facts about Jamaica. We took a day trip to Negril, 7 mile beach, yellow bird, the cave and Ricks Cafe for cliff diving. I would recommend this resort to anyone that has small kids.

Great time!

I went dec 21-28 2014 with my boyfriend and had a great time. We loved the food especially the jerk hut and Italian restaurant. We went for a day trip to negril as well which was only 40$ and well worth the money. The resort is better suited for families but we still had a good time. Spent most time in the adult pool which is very small and shallow and infested with bees. Also, the beach was beautiful but very shallow so I'd recommend going off resort if you want to enjoy the ocean. Those would  [... read more]be my only complaints. Aside from that, service, grounds and food were great. Would go back for sure!

Great Family Resort

Great family resort. Public areas were kept spotless. Most of the resort had a no smoking policy. The nightly entertainment was excellent.! Beaches are awesome. Drinks fantastic.Plenty of drink bars(both alcoholic and non alcoholic) throughout the resort. Jerk chicken from the Jerk Shack was to die for.! Buffet had a good selection of Jamaican food daily.
