Very good

We are 2 young 50+ adults and 2 athletic teens ages 16 and 13. We put our faith into travel agent who highly recommended this resort for the beach, safety, value, direct flights out of Toronto and activities to make our kids happy. Not without its hiccups, the positives truly outweighed the negatives. The kids could not get enough beach volleyball and it was fun watching guests of all ages play. A note of caution: If you have a tour representative, ensure you attend their introductory information session or you may end up stopping at the wrong desk and find yourself caught up in a high-pressured timeshare pitch. Those too-good-to-be true excursion discounts are exactly that. Still, overall a great trip.

Wonderful resort!

Amazing! Beautiful, clean, eco resort, rustic rooms in nature, amaxing staff! Loved the 3 pools for kids, relax and by the ocean. Beach was 5 stars! Went to swims with dolphins and took a gorgeous day at Chichen Itza pyramids.

Excellent for price

Resort is very clean! The resort is dated, needs upgrades. Rooms - , small room and bathroom also small but clean and no bugs! . Food - There is 3 restaurants (Mexican- ran out of guacamole! Very disappointed, it's Mexico how do you run out of guacamole?) my only real complaint. Italian was decent but not authentic , Japanese was GREAT! Book there on all options you won't regret it. Food was ok at the Buffett you will not starve, there is variety of selection. I just found lunch buffet was not that great. Wifi- Yoi have to pay for it!! And you can hardly pick it up unless you are in the lobby! So walk across the street to Iguanaa's a great family owned restaurant and buy a drink and get free wifi. Literally across the street. We did this everyday and we really got great service and got to know the owners daughter -in law. Great lady and the guacamole there was the best ! What a difference from the hotel. $5USD a day and you got a drink and wifi! Beach - was beautiful, crystal clear water I was at the beach everyday and water was knee high for a while. unless it rained it was windy it dragged all the seaweed and muck in but that Mother Nature. Put your towel out in the morning before breakfast or you won't get a good spot. The travel rep- nice lady but she was not good at her job, we asked her about going to playa for the day and where to stay and how much and she didn't know much made one call and said she didn't know where. Playa de carman is worth the trip!!! Beach is packed but you'll find a spot, cheap massage on the beach! Downtown great shops from high end to cheap ones, friendly and safe. Night life- must get off the resort and go to señor frogs! Especially on Thursday (ladies night free cover and drinks!) the disco at resort was small and never had more than 10 people it. It's make your own party place. Cozumel - is beautiful!!! And I found it very safe! If you are looking for a good resort for the money this is it! If you are looking for all the extras no this is not a luxury resort. It's for on a budget people. Age ranged from families to 20-28. My girl friends and I are in our 40's and on a budget so this was a good get away trip!! I would go back if I wanted a cheap vacation that I could feel comfortable knowig it's safe, clean and worry free!!

Mixed Feelings for my stay at the Allegro

It has declined somewhat since the time we were there 5 years ago. Certain foods were not available or they constantly ran out of. ie Bacon, nacho chips etc. Cold food as no pasta station or hot entres some days - everything was under heat lamps. Way too crowded with Line-ups for food and drinks constantly. Had people log-in and staff filled out reviews in trip advisor. "all excellent" and then gave patrons free internent for the week Very deceiving.

Pleasantly surprised

My boyfriend and I stayed at Allegro Cozumel from Feb 20-Feb 27th and really enjoyed it. The rooms are small and basic. I read that people were having issues with the hot water. We had hot water everyday and water pressure was great in the shower. No complaints there. The rooms were very clean. The bed is hard so ask for a mattress topper. I brought my own pillow thanks to advice from reviews and Im glad I did, The one complaint we had with the room was the noise from adjoining room. We could h [... read more]ear everything. We were on the ground floor in the 60's building. The fan and AC helped to block out the noise. The pools were clean and quiet most of the week we were there. We enjoyed the "relax" pool. The beach was AMAZING. We snorkeled for an hour atleast everyday and saw some neat fish, sting rays etc. Allegro allows each person an hour free did snorkel gear a day. There is a restaurant called Albertos 15 min walk down the beach that has great food and Sol beer. The beer at Allegro was poor taste, we wished they had Sol or Corona but not. Also there is a restaurant across the street from Allegro called Senor Iguanas that has free wifi with purchase. They also have great food and great service. The food at the restaurant was not near as bad as people were reviewing. Breakfast was the best. We always found something to eat at lunch and supper even though it could get monotonous. The three ala cartes were ALL yummy! Fernando in the lobby is excellent to rent a car from. We rented a car for a day without hassle and drove the island, its a great way to explore at a decent cost. What else can I say, if you want a clean, quiet, friendly resort then this is the place. We would recommend it.

Great vacation!

Room we had was great! Was a double family suite (they messed up so we got upgraded to a time share room). Staff were friendly but you really had to ask for service as there werent.enough staff in my.opinion. food was not tasty.or warm and there was not a lot of variety. A la cartes were good. Long lines at the bars. Resort itself was small but nice and clean. Great kids water park and jungle gym. Great beAch!

Not what it's made out to be

My husband and I stayed Jan 10-24. This hotel is a 3 star at best. It would be and awesome resort if the food was good. Yes there is always something to eat but I did't pay what I did to "try" and find something to eat every evening. Breakfast is ok, lunch was good but good luck with dinner. The oriental a la cart is amazing (so you know they can cook). The beach is great, rooms are clean and the pools are good. Taxi one way to town is $16-20. Ferry to the mainland is $12 each. For half the price, you can go to Puerto Plata in the Dominican and get a better resort, better food and AMAZING service.

Challenged Resort

The resort itself is very well maintained, the grounds are pretty to walk through. The pools are picturesque but the water levels are way below the pool skimmers which means the water is not being filtered. We heard about this on trip advisor so decided with heavy chorination and no filtering the pool should be avoided. The buffet restaurant was a hit and miss, the lack of any breakfast meats, ham, bacon or sausage was a big disappointment. Possibly because we arrived on New Years Eve, buffet was quickly depleted by sheer numbers at the resort, things seems to get much better through out the week. Service by restaurant staff usually good, excellent in the mornings. The pool buffet served up a much better spread but the lineups went out the door at noon every day. It was the only place to eat during the day. Really needed a separate nacho bar, pizza area etc to fit the needs of people wanting a quick bite, esp later at night. The bars were stocked usually by just one bartender for whole beach, again expect lineups. There seemed to be a lack of limes, cups etc so that was challenging. The beach was excellent, good swimming. Pier nice to walk out to. Vendors on beach were fun, not annoying, found some great buys. Gift shop lacked any snacks, alcohol or good supplies, internet very expensive and could be definitely overhauled. Disco alot of fun but sound system was pretty old. We opted out of nightly shows, pretty low grade unfortunately, I'm sure families enjoyed though. Likewise any pool activities were sparse and not well attended. there are no energetic pool staff teams to motivate people to do pool volleyball or salsa or zumba. The rooms are adequate but desperately need places other than an open closet to store clothing, hooks to hang up clothes etc. very ill equiped for travellers. Air conditioning works but you have to have on blast or turn off completely, no in-between. I liked the villa style of the rooms, and the walk to beach or main hall was short. Maid service was great. Brought lots of water on request. We were travelling with a group so fit our needs for this type of vacation, had it been just the 2 of us, we might have looked to upgrade to the other occidental. Great distance to airport and diving shops, there is one on beach dive shop but it is pricey, we opted for Papa Hogs in Cozumel, great prices and good instructors. Owners are ex pat Canadians, good to support them. Tours are very easy to access, excursion guys on site. There is one amazing restaurant/bar up the beach called Alberto's, don't miss the opportunity to eat there and dance.

Still needs work

It slowly got better after hours of delay at the checkin. Pool's were leaking and not the cleanest. Food was not available outside the restricted buffet hours. Rooms were well cleaned by Alfredo :). Activities poorly run and hard to get information on.

Amazing beaches and sunsets.

The grounds were beautifully cared for and the beach and pool were spectacular. The rooms, food and shows need lots of improvements, this aspect of the holiday was a 3 star level. The beds were very firm.

Needs some improvement

Need to open another food & drink location at lunch. Long line up at snack bar and beach bar. Rooms need some TLC. Our ceiling in bathroom leaked a lot of water but we switched rooms next day so that was appreciated. Friends room had broken toilet and shower handle but fixed quickly. Food in buffet was picked over by 8pm. Need to replenish. Toilet & AC in disco broken. Always ran out of limes at bars. Concerned about water levels in pool. In the end, hotel was okay but needs simple improvements.

Resort that has no idea what it's doing.

We arrived on December 19th, which was supposed to be their Grand Re-opening after a fire months before. Let me list the positives first, there are not many. The resort is set up wonderfully for families with small children, lots of play areas and a splash park. The resort was clean and nice to walk around. Now the negatives. On our arrival only one restaurant was open, the buffet and two of the a la carte restaurants were not completed construction yet. Only the beach bar was open unless you w [... read more]anted to go into the one open restaurant to use that bar to get a drink. Late Day 2 they finally opened the Buffet restaurant and the sports bar in the main building. Day 3 they opened the Asian a la carte restaurant and Day 5 they opened the Italian restaurant. Bars: Sports bar only opened at 6pm, Swim up bar was never manned properly and was near impossible to get a drink. Beach bar was the only bar that you could get a drink at regularly and until about day 3 it did not have proper beer taps or equipment. Restaurants: Buffet: food was mediocre but always cold as they had no way of keeping it warm at all. They actually had a microwave on the counter which we had to use every meal we had there to heat our food. Asian: Food was terrible and again cold. If you were lucky enough to get a seat at the Tempenyaki grill then your food was hot and I am told it was good. Italian: Food was average and again not very hot Mexican: The food here was the best of the bunch but still not great. This was the restaurant they used for the entire resort to have lunch at. The Buffet and Mexican lunch restaurant were never able to keep enough food out for the guests and people were waiting in large lines for them to put out more food. Beds: They are in the process of putting new mattresses in some of the rooms but not all. All the bed frames are concrete slabs and they have put a mattress on top. We were unlucky enough to get a mattress that had to be at least 10 years old. It was the worst week of sleep on vacation I have ever had and my back is still soar a week later. Pools: They have several pools available however all were dirty and the water level in all of them was so low that it was below the jets that circulate the water. On our last day there they were continually bringing in water trucks and dumping the water into the one pool while we were swimming in it. Summary: This was by far the worst resort I have ever stayed in. I would not recommend it to anyone ever. Jay

Amazing resort

probably best all inclusive resort we've ever stayed at ( and we've done many over the years). From Mimi and Ivan at the front desk check in to the open to the stars pizza and taco late nite restaurant upstairs with Francisco making the specialized coffee. Daytime activities with daily snorkeling from the beautiful beach, and Kayaks and sailing. The secondary highway for access to resorts only traffic was a walkers dream!!! Awesome trip

Had a great time at the Occidental Grand. Rooms were clean, always a beach chair to sit on, food was good, but have to say staff make this resort great! Can't wait to return to this resort with my family.

What a nightmare

Where should I start? The hotel burned 2 days after our arrival and we ended up in another hotel. Actually this was the only good news of my stay. We were there in August and usually the hotel close in September and October. Therefore there was no life(activities during the day) on site, choice of food was very limited....Regrets: the kids pool. I choose that hotel for my kids and because of the fire the only fun thing was gone. I hope though this fire will be a good opportunity for the Allegro to upgrade their service (maintenance of the pools, rooms, food...). Very Cozy Hotel

My recent trip was my first experience at an all inclusive resort. It was on the smaller side. I was a little disappointed in the food, was hoping for some more authentic food. It was well taken care of and groomed. The first night we were there there was no power on the whole south side of the island and they handled everything very well. I was impressed. There is a place to book tours just outside the lobby and they offer all these free things as long as you go for lunch and visit their sister [... read more] hotel. what they fail to mention is that is a timeshare viewing. this was very disappointing as we did not want to spend half a day at a place that wasn't our own being bugged to buy a timeshare. when we declined we found them to be quite rude. Who goes on vacation prepared to sign a contract for thousands of dollars. All in all it was a very small resort and the food wasn't amazing but most of the staff was friendly. Breakfast was by far the best meal of the day. I don't think I would travel back to this hotel but not because I didn't enjoy myself, just because I would like to try something different.

Wow beautiful resort!

The grounds were very well kept and clean! The pools were inviitng and very clean. Personel polite and ready to please. We were four couples traveling together and we had such a great time, games, fun and laughter!

Positive reaction to what i met there-

positive attitude to vacationers,v friendly staff, good food comparing to different resorts. Yet-too loud and that is what generally must change-NO quite place on beach,simply cannot relax due to "music" greatly disturbing . Quiet time must be provided for those who want to rest. Not enough protective sun umbrellas so in the morning vacationers "fight" for shadow ( absolutely that must correct), one pay for basic service and that must be provided.Cannot imagine to be in top hot months there and  [... read more]not have chance to comfortably seat under umbrella.Those simple improvements don`t required big investments,just proper thinking. Time is changing and more and more people are looking for places to relax and rest instead of loud party all time.Those "party" are great disturbance and many peoples i had chance to talk complain about "NOISE".Compromise must be found and that requires true rethinking about knew era witch is already here with attitude and expectations of vacationers from all resorts no matter where are they situated.. As per Occidental Allegro my complains were met with positive attitude from management and that is greatly appreciated. As cleanness ,room maintenance i can only send true positive opinion. So be more quiet, put more sun protective umbrellas and i will be there as soon as i can.

Great vacation

Had a wonderful week in Cozumel with my sister. The resort was great, clean and well maintained. Will definitely return. The beaches were lovely and we rented a car and drove around the island. You cannot come to Cozumel and not go see the wild side of the island. Breath taking views of the ocean.

Amazing resort....amazing staff!

The Allegro Resort in Cozumel is my favourite vacation destination. My husband and I stay there at least once a year. The food is excellent, the beach is beautiful, and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. This resort has everything I need for a great vacation in a beautiful location.
