Excellent Resort

We recently enjoyed a great time at this resort. We travel often to the Caribbean (33 times) and in the past few years have decided Cuba is our destination of choice. The Iberostar Playa Alameda is one of the best resorts we have visited. The resort is small,easy to walk around and the lay out pleasing to the eye. The grounds are well groomed,the public areas clean and well maintained for an older resort. Our room 1334 was renovated and comfortable. The food was good,especially the fish, and like all resorts tried to please the diverse tastes of various nations. The reason we enjoyed this resort so much was the staff in all areas.Except for several older, male bosses the entire staff did everything they could possibly do to make our stay such a success and we are very grateful-THANK YOU.

Overall good experience

Overall good , grounds beautiful , Beach wonderful. Food ok for Cuba . Rooms clean , little outdated , BUT bathrooms are brand new , great showers! Place clean , stuff friendly,and evening entertainment very good .

Fantastic Resort

We had an amazing trip. We were in building 17, a perfect location to both the pool and beach. The service and entertainment was excellent. Shouts out to Charli, Peke and Jaqueline. We will definately be returning to this resort. Great beach, great food, service and entertainment

A few hiccups but a good time

This was my 4 th time to Cuba , recently 8 of us stayed at this hotel july6-13,2018. When we arrived we were able to have one room ready since rooms are not available until 4 pm . By 2 pm the second room was available and the bell boy was very helpful moving us into our rooms. The rooms were clean and the maid service was awesome ( we tipped very well and left gifts daily) . My room had the air conditioner that was mounted to the wall ( long rectangle vent) leak out water which was hard to see o [... read more]n the white tile floor and yep my friend slipped on it and fractured her arm 4 days into the trip!! The Maintence guy came and fixed it but the damage was done already. The main problem with this hotel was that we had NO hot water for 5 days!!!! Try taking showers in cold water , not fun lol the entire hotel was affected. The problem was the entire tanks needed to be replaced through out the hotel. So it took time to order parts and install we get it and understand things happen out of our control...its Cuba ! The grounds were well maintained and since this is a smaller resort things were easy to access too. The beach is absoutley beautiful but, entering the water there is rocks here and there for the first 30 feet . I found if u enter the water further down the beach u get no rocks . I had cut my foot open and was close to getting stitches. So overall we had a couple hiccups but the hotel was quick to fix anything and were awesome staff. Sometimes situations occur and its out of our control but I bet you now they have one awesome hot water system put in. The trip was good dispite a fractured arm, cut foot and cold showers . Some Off he items we bright for gifts were nail polish, make - up, hair accessories , crayons, toothpaste and toothbrushes, hats, and what they all wanted was our bubba mugs . The staff loved the water bottles so next time I will bring more. One thing that people travelling here should bring is bug spray . the mosquitos can bite and they honestly itch for days and swell , so pack the bug spray , after bite and Benadryl they loved me , but didn't touch anyone else in our group. Let's talk about food. Cuba is not known to have great tasting food so I recommend pack your ketchup and spices . This resort has hot dogs, pizza, pasta , chicken hamburgers ( which were gross) daily . We found the food to be very repitive . The la cartel restaurants were good . They have one restaurant that they use for la carte dinners and rotate the restaurant nightly ie) Monday Cubain, Tuesday Italian etc.. We had fun and made the best out every situation and enjoyed our stay even with broken bones!

Terrible resort (iberostar daiquiri not playa alameda***)

Had a bad stay. Only one bar open after 6, plates were dirty at the buffet, beach was mostly seaweed, no toilet paper at the lobby washroom, and the whole resort ran out of water twice therefore couldn’t even shower or wash hands....

Good Resort

My Appreciation to Reception Manager - Antonio ! the was an issues with the water in the room.. it was disconnected at all couple of times! The bar was not refreshed regularly.. apart of that all was not so bad !

Great relaxing stay!

Great first resort experience, very clean rooms and grounds, attentive staff, close to the beach, decent variety of food, I would even say better than what I was planning for. I couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Wonderful resort!

Although we did encounter a few hiccups getting settled into a room..everything was dealt with, and we had a great time. The restaurants, pool, bars, beach, and entertainment were awesome. The staff were amazing. Everyone made you feel welcome. Lots of positive energy in this resort.

Resort in desperate need of update

The hotel is much older than i expected and the lack of maintenance is showing all over the resort. Our room had been renovated but there was paint everywhere. The resort was full of dangers for young kids if i was traveling with young kids i would have been very worried. On the bright side the food was very good for a cuban resort Beach was good, service was generally good but this is not a 5* resort

Iberostar Playa Alameda

This resort receives top marks for 2 services - exchanging money, and a la carte dinner reservations. There have been long lines to do this at every other resort I have stayed at. There were no lines to exchange money, and a very short line to book the a la carte dinner reservations at Iberostar Playa Alameda. The food was varied. Taco night was our favourite. And then a Japanese evening (sushi) was also fun. They made the most delicious donuts. Omelettes were good. Now.... the public washro [... read more]oms were often without toilet paper. And no one seemed to care when they were told. This happened repeatedly. And then, sadly, as were were preparing to leave - our key didn't work to get into our room. And then the person who was responsible for collecting the beach towels (which we were told to leave in our room) was obnoxious. She took about 30 minutes of our time, making sure we would leave our towels. I am not sure of the concern over the beach towels, but it was a very poor leaving experience. We had to be out of our room at 12 noon, but our bus didn't pick us up until 6:30 pm. The front desk told us to keep our towels until then and just bring them to the front desk. They should have told the maids!! Then when we took our luggage to the front desk to be held, the bell man told us there was no room for our luggage. It was frustrating afternoon. Customer service goes to the time the customer is on the bus!!

Very nice resort

This was a nice and friendly resort in an ideally central location in Varadero. The grounds were nicely kept. Although we could hear the people in the room next to us talking and throwing up, the rooms were clean, spacious and well kept. There was a show every night and the common areas were nice and clean. The beach was clean and pretty and there were enough lounging chairs put out. The staff was happy and very friendly and eager to help. Charming old style resort.

rooms in real need of redo. paint, tiles fixtures and furniture are really tired. Food was best we ever had in 6 visits to Cuba. First nights room was disgusting. The practice of shoving late arrival guests in these obviously unacceptable rooms should be stopped. It starts the vacation off on a sour note. The upgraded room the next day was in great location and nice and clean.

Wonderful Resort!

We had a great time at the Iberostar, great food, great service. All the staff were so friendly! We would definitely go back! One of the best things about staying at this hotel is the beach, long walks on the sand! Wonderful!

Medium quality resort

The lobby and esplanade and the beach were OK. The daily theater performances were pretty good... The food at the buffet was medium quality.. quantity was always adequate. The a la carte restaurants were pretty good and with good service. The bar service was pretty decent.. BUT.. The pool didn't have a deep end, the Spa/jacuzzi was out of operation, many of the room balcony sliding doors wouldn't lock up, the room safe was not chained down, lots of smokers in the outdoor sitting area, the la [... read more]ndscaping was rather sad...

Great resort

I enjoyed staying at this resort. The rooms were clean. The food was good & most of the workers were friendly. The pool & beach were good. I would recommend this resort to relax & enjoy the pool & the beach

The beach is it!

Would not recommend this hotel. This was a convalescence trip so we spent our entire time on the resort. The food is not very good, it is actually pretty bad, except for the grill near the beach. Only one cook could do over easy eggs and their attempt at bacon was greasy deli slices warmed up. I could not stomach the strange butter they served. I thought that it was always that way until I found a good butter in the Italian restaurant. Our room was not properly cleaned and the towels were not changed. I was bitten all over in the bed not quite sure by what, Of course the Internet was expensive and not always working as expected and the few times I had to interact with the staff I did not find then very pleasant. Of course if you are there for the beach then that is great. Hope you get sunnier days than we got. You should only go here if you get a very good deal and don’t expect too much.

We liked the resort a lot!

We go to Cuba for winter holidays for the past 20 years,and could say that Playa Alameda gave us probably the best experience.We loved the size of the resort, and the acomodations and all facilities are kept nice and clean.Minibar in the room and coffee maker,definitely a plus. Service and Entertainment team- great people, kept us busy!

Mediocre Resort

I want to start by saying that Wendy was a great travel agent. The things I loved about the resort were the staff, the music, the small size and the beach. The food was mediocre at best which I expected but the rooms need some well deserved maintenance. I know we can blame it on the hurricane but honestly the beds and couches need to be replaced. Our room was very musty and the A/C was either full blast or off making it extremely hard to dry anything.

Iberostar Playa Alameda!

Have been to this hotel before about 3years ago. I have to say the staff this time around were amazing! From the front desk, to the dinning rooms, and the maids, bartenders, even the gardeners,they couldn't do enough for us, they were very accommodating to us. They were fabulous! The hotel is a smaller one which we like, the food was okay, not as good as last time,but you don't starve that's for sure. The rooms are big with a walk in closet, and safe. The fridge was filled everyday with 2 be [... read more]ers, 2 pop, and 2 bottles of water. Coffee machine was very slow but your holiday so no rush! The beds are very comfortable, and the pillows were okay. Overall the hotel was good, it is an older hotel and they are trying to update it a bit. The Internet is 1 dollar for an hour, and can only be used in the hotel lobby. They have the bus that goes into Varadero right outside the hotel, it takes about 35-40 mins to get into town depending on how many stops it makes. Would I go back yes especially because of the staff! The beach at the IPA is amazing, lots of chairs, and umbrellas, they also have staff that come on the beach for bar service.
