Service was good, food was good resort was in decent condition, staff was really nice. The only negative part is we found 2 cockroaches in our room last day of our stay I'll will not recommend this resort for this reason nor go back.

Another wonderful vacation! !

The resort is better than ever due to the hard work and dedication of the Cuban people after such a devastating hurricane. They not only had to look after their homes and families but made sure that their places of employment were looked after. The beach, gardens and pools are beautiful, food was great and in abundance and room was spotless! Nothing to complain about!!!

Food

Buffet is always the same everyday no bacon in the breakfast and everything is cold and at the pool bar drinks are to small they are juste a little bigger than a shooter glass and the bus ride is to far from the airport.

Fantastic time!

Loved: live music every night (rock, salsa, etc), nightly shows, beach, tennis courts, calamari, freshly grilled meats and fish, service, drinks, look of buildings and rooms. Meh: a la carte restaurants. Hated: nothing.

Great Family Vacation

We travelled to Melia Las Dunas with our three children, from January 18-25. We were very happy with our hotel accommodations. We ended up with two, connecting, spacious rooms. The location of the bungalow was great as well, right in front of the pool. The staff at Melia Las Dunas treated our three children with respect, and made every effort to make them feel included. Though we felt there wasn't a huge variety of food at the buffet, everyone was able to find something they enjoy [... read more]ed. The kids (age 9, 11 and 14) participated in the kids club a few times, which kept them entertained for a few hours. However, the majority of the children in the group were much younger. I'm not sure if there are other programs for older children? They were doing some work on the beach, I'm assuming was due to the hurricane damage. Therefore, any shelter huts on the beach were unavailable as the huts were near where they were doing the work and they had that part of the beach blocked off.

Nice resort

the resort was very nice , food ok, big rooms and they gave me just where i asked to go close to adult pool rm 4111 2min away . we had lots of little black bugs in our room , they would go away after the cleanning lady were in but were back the next day , they didnt bite just lots of them .

Beautiful Resort

Just spent another week at Las Dunas and we loved it. Our room was freshly painted, spacious and closed to the adult pool and the walkway to the beach. It was very clean and the room service was excellent. The gardens were beautiful but the palms trees had lost most of their palms during the Irma hurricane. The vast lobby renovated after the storm was gorgeous and had live music with dancing every evening. The beach was being widened to about 100 meters by a ship pumping water and sand on the beach through a big floating hose approximately 1 kilometer long. The construction area was curtained and it did not affect our ability to swim in the ocean. The live shows in the theatre on most evenings were simply outstanding with the dancers and the singers. The personnel at Las Dunas is very friendly and helpful. We feel very safe all the time. Overall: a very enjoyable and relaxing week. We already booked to return in early March.

Family resort

Room was infested with bugs however hotel staff were accommodating and moved us to another room! Rooms would benefit from caulking around walls and tubs to prevent bugs. Sink drains needed to be unclogged due to poor drainage from hair in drains. Beach is well kept and beautiful. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Buffet was far better than the dining options! The decline of Melia Las Dunas

I had visited Melia Las Dunas a few years ago with my oldest daughter(Kendra) and everything was above average to excellent. This is the reason I decided to return with my youngest daughter(Kenya) 9 years old. 1- Upon arrival our room had no hot water....After a long day a hot shower was required.....Therefore we changed rooms and discovered that we still had no hot water with very low water pressure. After a day or two the water became lukewarm and never attained the status of being HOT....!! [... read more]! 2- Food was always overcooked and cool to cold.. There was no ketchup or mustard. Many days there was no butter. Bread....buns...etc ... were of poor quality 3- Pool area was finished with concrete, when uni-pavi should have been employed...My 9 year old daughter Kenya cut her foot on all the aging and loose bits of concrete. Also anyone walking around the pool to enter the water had difficulty walking on all the loose bits of concrete in their bare feet..!!! Pool water was very cold. Pool water heater which would provide a minimum water temperature might be a consideration and with today's technology could be provided in a cost effective manner. I had a pool water heater installed with my pool at my home... The Safety bars in the pool and also in the bathrooms in the rooms were loose and dangerous to use. 4- No WiFi...and I fully understand the reasons why...but my wife and daughter advised me that they would not return because of their addiction to the internet.. Personally I can live for a week without the internet. 5- No room service.. 6- Shampoo and soap containers were empty after 4-5th day and never refilled. 7- Clients should be advised that Any USD Visa card will not be accepted. On the Positive Side... 1- The shows at the theatre were very good a few years ago and are absolutely great today. Good, but not great

We enjoyed our time at Las Dunas - the stand out at the resort was definitely the staff - definitely the best I've ever encountered at a resort!!! Food was good - we enjoyed the Oriental and the Mediterranean . The beach is fantastic. The adult pool was lovely - serene and very relaxing Room was large and well appointed. Our maid was lovely and kept it spotless. Lobby and beer garden were filled with families with loud misbehaved kids on the weekend - that was probably our biggest co [... read more]mplaint. They basically took over - this would be our biggest deterrent from ever going back to Las Dunas...we have been to many other "family" resorts and have never had to leave a lobby due to noise. It was unbearable.

Fun time at familiar resort

Well after the hurricanes went through the area in September the rebuild is amazing!!! This was our 3rd trip Las Dunas and it didn't disappoint. Beach is wonderful, ALL staff are beyond friendly and approachable. The Cuban alacarte was extremely tasty (lobster enchilada) was totally unexpected. The only down fall of the trip was the insect bites, pretty sure its a result of all the distrurbance of the surrounding vegetation and rebuild.But insect repellant was working just seemed to affect the w [... read more]omen more so than the men at the resort. Bus trip is 80min but the beer is cold. We will return again.

Melia Las Dunas

Went there Dec, 2017. My parents recommended to go. Weather was great. Hotel was good. Staff was very friendly and entertaining. Was a lots of show starting at 6pm and contests. I had a great time. Food was great a lots of everything. Fish, meat, chicken, veggies, fruits, deserts. I even didn't have time to go to restaurant over there, because was a lots of food at buffet. Nice, polite staff. We were dancing every day, love it. Only some bugs appeared at the end and bit all of us. But warm countries they always have bugs. I had a great time and meet new friends there.

Started rough ended better!

The hotel was beautiful but unfortunately we had five rooms in one building and all the rooms were infested with the same black bugs, tub filled with them! Kids afraid to sleep ! They finally moved us after three nights and a lot of complaining ! After that we enjoyed the resort fully!

Beautiful incredible experience!

My roommate and I travelled to Melia Las Dunas at cayo Santa Maria Cuba nov 24- dec 1. We where slightly worries at what state we would find the resort and surrounding areas post hurricane. Upon arrival we where welcomed by amazing hostest, happy, courteous, smiling, professional workers. They came to say hi with drinks and then brought to our rooms with the bell boys and golf carts. Bell boys really kind and gave us a tour of the resort on the way to our room. Due to the hurricane one half of the resort I believe it was the adult section was destroyed a little bit more and they focused on fixing up the main areas for family vacations. That being said everything was tip top shape, pool beautiful and pool bar amazing. 24 hour snack bar was delicious. I’ve been to Cuba 3 times and I have to say that was the best snack bar food I’ve ever had; chicken burgers, cheese burger, cheese sticks, French fries, poutines... you where never forgotten or left alone by the bartenders once they saw you sit they where ready to take your order. The room was nice, clean, bed mattress was firm and mediocre for comfort but still managed to rest well. Our housekeeper was a sweetheart leaving us notes and talking with us in passing. Buffet was good for Cuba can’t complain lots of options for everyone...but they where quite short on veggies and fruits it looked like it was all canned fruits (I somewhat expected that post hurricane) no problem we usually ended up at the snack bar for more food later on. The à la carte restaurants...now the Mediterranean and Italian was amazing. We went to the Mediterranean 3 times (usually you only go once but if you are friendly and make a buddy within the workers you are set) and italien we had reservations for our last night there we got seconds it was yummy. The Cuban restaurant we weren’t fans. But still enjoyed our time. They had a 4 th restaurent as well the international à la carte. We didn’t have a chance to try that one since you only have 3 reservations you can make but heard good things about it. I believe in their website there should have been more a la carte options but with the hurricane they weren’t able to get them all up and running yet. The lobby was gorgeous and the paths around the resort well maintained. The beach...I was dissaponted that the hurricane ate up all the beach in front of our resort. We had 10-12feet of sand before you hit the water but if you walked to the right or the left of the resort you had beautiful big sandy areas. There where no palapa’s or shade makers and most palm trees where destroyed during the hurricane. A lot of people where bringing umbrellas from their room to use as shade makers worked well. Not too windy but the area we where in created lots of waves large waves to up to a meter high if not more. Lots of fun nice soft sand sandy ocean bottom very little if any rocks in the ocean. We had a blast in the water and sun tanning. The animation crew was great signing dancing, water aerobics in the ocean in the pool musical quizzes...so much more. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an easy going great service relaxing vacation. I will definitely be returning in the near future excited to see what the whole resort will look like once all fixed up.

Resilient Cuba (Melia Las Dunas)

We traveled Nov, 11th for a week stay at this fabulous hotel expecting the worse, but was pleasantly surprised how this resort restored 90% of the damages Hurricane Irma caused. The people from the house keeper (Carlos) to the gardeners wait staff and bartenders all had smiles welcoming us too the resort. The food was good the service was excellent and overall very clean. Nice Beach, fairly clean environment, below expectation on service

The hotel was clean, food was way better than our expectation for Cuba (not much verity though), but where the hotel fell short was on service. At the pool and beach you had to walk up to the bar to get your drink. No waiters would walk around to take your drink orders. The pool snack bar opens late and closes at 4pm. You have to walk quite a bit to get food if you want to spend the late afternoon at the beach. You could not bring back food back to the pool chair, so you had to sit dine at  [... read more]the pool snack bar, but this also helps to keep the pool area clean. The best part of the resort was the beach. Clean, shallow and crystal clear waters. There were some small jellyfishes to be found, be aware of your surroundings when you are in the water. Night entertainment was good, most of the show were well done.

Disappointing

Very Disappointing, room's weren't clean. 2 days with no bath towels or hot water, and 3 days with no beach towels. I know its Cuba but for a Melia the food was not good. The beach was the best part of this trip, but not good enough to go back. Would not recommend this hotel.

Amazing beach!

I expected more from a Melia chain company. Simply got a dated hotel with little cleanliness present, whether it was in the lobby, restaurants or pool. They need to step it up. The pool was dirty and murky. After the 3rd day I refused to go in the pool. The food was barely there or tasteful. WiFi connection sucked royally and 1hr card was gone in minutes cause every time the system was trying to connect it would spend your minutes regardless. The beach was the saving grace. Love this resort

This was my second visit in 3 months and will be back, love the staff and everything about the hotel. The food is always good, the staff are always super friendly and helpful. I will definitely be returning!
