Stunning resort

Barcelo Maya Colonial has it all: beautiful beach & views; clean, spacious & comfortable rooms; stunning colourful gardens & pools; large variety of healthy & well-prepared food; wonderfully warm and friendly staff. Came as a couple for a ‘get away from winter’ retreat - weren’t disappointed - relaxing, enjoyable- totally happy with our choice

5 star hotel and beach, 2 star front desk

The grounds are huge and beautiful. Although the resort was near fully booked, there always seemed like lots of space, chairs and privacy. The rooms are so-so, functional but nothing special. Our request for a king size bed was not accommodated, and when we attempted to switch it became a very tiresome and protracted exercise with the front desk, who seemed uninterested in solving the problem. Apparently the supervision or reporting structure is ineffective and their boss is in Spain ! T [... read more]hat experience aside, I would rate everything else highly. The food and drinks are 5 star, the beach and pools are gorgeous, and the specialized restaurants were high quality, especially the Tokyo and Kyoto. There is a water park and bowling alley just off the grounds, which are not free but fun. Lots to do.

9 Days of sun

WE been to the barcelo maya 6 times over the last 23 years .We always have a good time ,the beach are great ,pools are fun.They have added more things to do like water park ,10 pin bowling.But i will say i was disappointed at the prices they charged.15 dollars for one game of bowling come on.this is the first time i can say a lot of food was not hot.

Not Suitable for All

This resort is suitable to families and young adults. It is not suitable for those who want a quiet holiday. The pools were full of kids and the beach full of loud drinkers. We were awaken almost every night when the discotheque closed at 2am with loud ruckus. This is a huge resort with lots of amenities. Excellent fitness centre with a huge variety of exercise equipment and fitness classes (yoga, zumba, spinning). The staff were friendly and helpful. The manager was not! Did not take [... read more] our complaint about noise (each night yelling and screaming until 5 am) seriously. We won't return!!!

Great time

The hotel grounds were beautifully kept. Beaches were wonderful, the Beach Activity service was great it was wonderful dealing with Gabriella The food was good lots of variety. The Santa Fe restaurant steakhouse was not up to Snuff The people at the front desk were excellent. Can't say as much for the concierges and head of house keeping that looked after our section it only took us five days to get an iron in our room. Great week spent with family

This is a very nice resort. Very quiet and relaxing. We attended a wedding and it was beautiful. I would definately go back. I wasn’t a fan of the beach. But we fixed that by staying by the pool. One thing to keep an eye out on. Make sure you don’t book while Crash my Playa is on. It’s a huge party/concert. It’s just drunk people everywhere with nowhere to even sit. I’m happy this was only on the first day of our trip.

We loved this place

The hotel and grounds where pristine. The beach was groomed daily and had plently of room to relax. We absolutely loved this resort and will return. Our travel agent marlena was a great help and a pleasure to work with

Amazing Family Vacation

From beginning to end this trip was amazing! Staff are friendly and very accommodating to whatever we needed. The grounds are very clean and well maintained. Rooms are always swept and kept clean with fresh towels.....even slippers and a robe! Our kids ( ages 2 & 4) had an absolute blast. The waterparks are close to the rooms and everything else ( buffet, mall, market, a la cartes)- I didnt have to separate from the fun adult group we were travelling with regarding waterpark, pool and beach- Per [... read more]fect proximity to everything. Beautiful Resort!

We enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Maya Colonial. The resort was very clean and the beach was beautiful! The staff were friendly and warm and the food was good! Octavio went out of his way to serve us any time he saw us and he was a wonderfully friendly face to see in the lobby! He was very resourceful and always very helpful!

Amazing vacation

The resort is beautiful with so many places to walk to and enjoy. The grounds are well cared for and clean. The rooms are good with a very comfortable bed. We loved the pools and beach space. We knew the resort was full but it never felt too crowded. The New Year’s Eve party was fun. The buffets and restaurants were all very good. The service was fantastic and the food was tasty with lots of choices. The staff work hard to make you feel pampered. We definitely recommend this resort.

Amazing week!!!

We went to Barcelo resort as a group of 6, my wife and four grown kids. We enjoyed our morning workouts at the beautiful fitness facility, amazing meals at both the buffets and the alacarte restaurants. Very much highly recommend and hope to return again.

Big resort, great landscape

Big resort, great landscape, good food, friendly and helpful personal (Tomas Carrera, reception), good rooms and room service. Bad part - volleyball net goes down at 4:40PM, no negotiation, while other hotels around keep the net on all the times. After 4pm is the prime time to play, not hot. Lots of people in line to play while entertainment member comes and simply removes the net, I personally never never ever seen anything like this on vocation. Fantastic Resort!

This hotel is very well maintained, and absolutely gorgeous. The pool is immaculate, and the grounds surrounding the pool are very clean. The wait staff are very friendly and kind! Would recommend this hotel!

Fabulous Resort

The resort was huge, clean and had plenty of activities, bars and restaurants. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The al carte restaurants were amazing (Italian my least favourite). Beach was rocky, fine if you bring water shoes. Good selection of liquor. Overall a fabulous vacation and I would return.

Good value, great resort

This is still a great resort with lots of activities, especially for families with children. There are a lot of pool and ocean choices for loungers and several water parks for kids. Snorkelling here is still one of the best spots we have found in the Mayan Riviera with lots of fish, turtles and the occasional stingray. The staff are wonderful and bend over backwards for you, they work for very little pay so perhaps think about tipping them. A dollar means a lot more to them than us. The food  [... read more]was good, fresh, and lots of variety, especially good in the a-la-cartes. We enjoyed the large area of the resort, since we like to walk a lot.(this may be a drawback for some, although there are buses to ferry people around the resort. We also enjoyed the mini-golf course, lots of fun. The only real drawback we found was that the bed sheets were polyester, so they did not breath well and were very sweaty for sleeping.

More then expected

Dining is great, spa is incredible, service staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable. Restaurants menu very well and food tastes amazing. Alexis Mora on reception very helpful and professional person who made our visit enjoyable.

Huge resort

Upon arrival, the Barcelo is very impressive. Well maintained and clean, and service at the desk is excellent. The room had one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in. Much better value and beaches in Cuba. I doubt I'll return.

Beautiful Resort!

My husband and my 9 year old son really enjoyed our time at the resort. The place was grand and the customer service was fantastic. The drinks were amazing, I highly recommend the mojitos. We loved the size of the place and the variety of places to go, such as the variety of restaurants and the access to all spots inside the resort. The beach was a little rocky in places, but there was always chairs available on the beach. We went for our 11th anniversary, when we arrived in our room we received [... read more] a fruit plate and one bottle of tequila and one bottle of anise liquor. The rooms were quite big and well kept. The only complaint I had was the food. I was very disappointed in the food. They had a theme every night and one night was seafood night. They had a mountain of over cooked lobster. It was terrible. Some nights the food was better but the snack bars were usually hot dogs and fries. The restaurants we made reservations at were much better and the service was great.

Great family trip - Barcelo Maya Colonial

Overall, this was a great experience for our family. It was our first trip to Mexico and loved it. Fantastic pools, good food and plenty to do! Highly recommended! Hotel facilities were really impressive - although it was a big resort, it didn't feel like it. There was lots to keep our kids occupied. A la carte restaurants were fantastic. I do recommend these over the buffet, which was good but a little repetitive.

Would recommend to anyone

This was a very clean and fun place. Nice people and staff. Only issue we had was with my girlfriends vegan preferences which took a while to solve at each restaurant but they always had a resolution. There is enough stuff to do here to be busy for even two weeks and we went for one. I want to come here again and habe beem telling all my friends to book here if they plan to go away. Seaweed can be annoying but there was always a somewhat clear ocean area to swim.
