Too Big

We stayed in the adults only section. The resort was too large for our liking. We went to two restaurants and one had no ravioli and another no mushrooms to go with my steak. Service was ok. I think you get better service in smaller resorts. The room was ok. Food was fine. In the family area there was a huge buffet, but it was very busy and noisy as was the rest of the main lobby area which was the family area of the resort. The resorts grounds were well kept, the pool was very nice.

Amazing resort -loved it!

Really beautiful property, grounds kept immaculate. Peacocks are really neat to see. Beach and pool area -fun area and huts on beach are wonderful to hide under from the sun for awhile. We enjoyed food immensely, both buffet and a la carte restaurants.

Exceeded all expectations!

Stayed as a couple the week of March 9, 2015. Pleasantly surprised at how beautiful resort was. Upgraded our room and process was a little challenging but got to the room only to find our luggage was mixed up with someone else's. Sarah helped rectify the problem and we got our luggage no harm done. The staff were friendly and we didn't want for anything the entire week. Food was hot and very tasty and the wine was decent. Did the dune buggy excursion and it was nice to see the country side but be prepared to be approached at every stop by the locals trying to sell you there goods. We had a fabulous holiday and can't wait to go back. No more Mexico for these kids!!

Melia Caribe Tropical

We stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical. The rooms were very nice, the grounds were well kept. The sewer system takes getting used to as flushing is a multiple time experience. It took us 3 days out of our 7 day vacation to finally not get lost. we suggested that the walkways be better marked to and from the beach so that people could find their way back to their rooms easier. The beach was weedy but the staff worked diligently to get it cleaned up. this process does not happen in a day but over a few days. Kudos to the workers. the water was warm and you can swim with the fish just off the beach. Would we go back. You bet. very very nice.

Fantastic resort !

Totally enjoyed Melia Caribe! It`s a beautiful resort! Very clean and well kept! The staff is very pleasant! The food is fantastic and there is just so much variety! The Level Adult section is great! This is my second time and I will go again!

Beautiful Getaway

Food was fabulous and the Al a Carte options made eating a pleasure. We stayed need the beach and pool which was just right for our family. The walk to the main lobby was a bit long if you missed the train so suggest to leave early if you have an appointment at the lobby or restaurants. Room service was not consistent and two days ended up needing to search out staff to obtain towels for our use in the room.

Fantastic Resort

The resort is great, the public washroom by the theater is a museum, loved all the pretty birds, it's Eco friendly, well maintained, friendly staff, the food was all good. I enjoyed the train that goes around the whole resort.

Melia Caribe

Great resort, large, but get around easy with train and golf carts. staff offer rides all the time. Food exceptional particularly at Gabi Restaurant. Recommend staying at the Leval. Worth the upgrade.

Mid February vacation

My girlfriend and I are in our fifties and this was our first vacation together. To say the least I had high expectations that our time and money will be well spent. Let me preface my comments by firstly saying I had read many reviews of this property and while I found some negative I found even more positive. We opted not to spend the money on the Level upgrade and hope for the best. The checkin was smooth and quick. We were taken to our room and our luggage was taken there for us. First impres [... read more]sions of the room were very good. Well appointed and clean. Sure there are some cracked tiles in the corners of the floor and some less than perfect grout work in the bathroom but nothing to take away the smile on your face. The balcony faced the gardens which are so perfectly groomed it will take your breath away. The beach has powder white sand meeting the aqua blue ocean. The weeds do wash up but are quickly taken away by a special attachment drawn by a tractor. Let me also say as you walk the beaches you will see some resorts using men with rakes and wheel barrows. Many lawn chairs and never an issue to find one. The food.... amazing! Our favorite was the Tia Restaurant. Make reservations if you want to eat at either the Japanese or American grill. Other than that you may have to wait 30mins to get in to the other a la cart restaurants but hey your on vacation.Just walk around any corner and you will find a bar with people who are willing to make the time pass quickly. Many thanks to Heroberto Diaz at The Avenue bar. The entertainment provided by the resort is fun and starts at 930pm lasting about an hour. When it finished you will find a live band in the lobby where you will dance till 11pm or so. When it packs up then the crowd moves to the Fun Bar also within the resort. Yes people smoke at the resort but never was it an issue for me (non smoker). The constant breeze from the ocean takes care of any second hand smoke. We brought 500US each and came home with money. Everyone takes the US currency. Tip the bartenders 1 dollar per round and leave your maid 5 dollars on the pillow. You will get excellent service and they do work very hard. The property is large and we stayed next to the beach as opposed to closer to the restaurants. Our thinking was if we wanted to make a trip to our room during the day from the beach for any reason .... this would be best. Worked perfectly!! Trains run on regular schedules to take you from one end of the resort without a problem. So we discussed beach, food, room, entertainment, money, and transport while there.

Resort is beautiful, but has some issues

The resort itself is spotless, the dining rooms are beautiful, the food is in need of improvement, I got food poisoning, after that was afraid to eat much. The service the waiters etc. was excellent. The rooms are beautiful, but the cleaning of rooms was very , we came back from the beach late afternoon to find the room still not made up No makeup mirrors in the room was my wife's pet peeve. The helicopters buzzing the beach all day made it hard to relax on the beach. The seaweed on the beach wa [... read more]s very slow to be cleaned up.

Needs Attention

Staff---excellent Grounds----absolutely beautiful Room----ok except it didn,t get made up until 5 pm. each day Adult Area(The Level)-----very quiet and plenty of lounges. Three restaurants and a buffet area----very good. Pool was a way too cold----not heated and neither was the hot tub----the ocean was warmer. Other Restaurants: French/Mediteranean/Italian----all very good Japanese----why they bother giving you menus is beyound me as the waiter went around convincing everyone to have the same th [... read more]ings which just so happens what the cook had on cart! Food ----except for the rice, it was ll over cooked as the cook spent far too much time talking and flipping his utensils around and not enough time watching what was on the grill. A ham sandwich could have beat what was put in front of me. The best meal was at the American Grill----you could pick out what meat/fish and the chefcooked right there to your specification-----my filet mignon was outstanding----MEDIUM RARE! If I could speak to one manager at this place, it would be the head chef----everything that was prepared and presented was well done except for the meat and fish. The cooks only know ONE WAY-----well done(they remind me too much of Scottish mother). I am a very good cook and just about everyone that I have ever cooked for prefer their main rare to medium. No matter how much you try to explain this to the waiters, it draws a blank.

Awesome resort

The hotel was beautiful, very clean.. Food was great. Staff are very courteous and friendly. I was a little disappointed with the cleaning of the beach area as last Friday we woke up to massive amounts of seaweed washed up on shore..other hotels were quick to begin clean up..the Melia did not thus making access to the water problematic as the seaweed was as knee high. Guests were clearing their own paths through it. Before this occurred the beach was clean and lovely to walk on.

Very pleasant stay

Olla, this resort is easily a 4.5 in all aspects clean, comfortable the staff go the extra distance to make shure all is good. Language barrier is minimal, the food is as good at the buffet to the a la cart restaurant mind you we did not try them all, truly satisfying. The staff love their job and it shows. Nice place to relax and soak up some rays

Outstanding Resort

Facilities were very well maintained, rooms were very nice. Pool area was large, with plenty of chairs. Beach was fantastic. Only negative feedback was the limited reservations in the a la carte restaurants. Buffet was great though.

Lovely resort, definitely on the pricier side

We recently spent a week at the Melia Caribe Punta Cana. We were in "the Level" which is the exclusive "adults only" area. Great room, great service, etc. but a little disappointed that we paid about $1725 per person and someone else we met paid $1500 through a travel agent for the same room and service level, flying on the same airline, from the same location.

Not what we expected

Although the grounds, beaches and rooms were beautiful we felt like this resort "nickel and dimed" you. You could never get a decent time at the ala carte without paying an extra $5.00 per person. You could not sit in certain sections of the beach or go to certain beach bars unless you were part of the Level club. When booking golf (which is why we went to this resort) we were told by travel agent that it was $34.00 per person for the cart but in reality they wanted $75.00 per person per cart. W [... read more]e ordered a bottle of wine for dinner one evening as again we were told that we would get 20% off, but when checking out they charged us $2.00 more than the original price. I know this doesn't sound like a lot but we did pay just over $2500. for the two of us to go here and were expecting it to be a true all inclusive.

Absolutely amazing

We loved this resort, there is alot of walking but that is something that we love to do. the weather was amazing the whole week. The food was so so have had better at other resorts but can't complain. Staff were friendly and eager to assist you. Would go back anytime.

Great Resort !

Great resort staff were very friendly , grounds were beautiful and well kept Food was great , no issues at all lots to choice from I would definety go back Time of our stay was mid February 2014 .Would definetly recommend :-) Also very close to the up scale mall !

Awsome Resort!!

We stayed at the Melia Caribe in March of 2014 for seven days. We loved this resort and all it had to offer. The staff were very friendly and accommidating and quick to offer assitance when asked. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable with very good maid service and a well stocked fridge. We had a small issue with a faulty room key but it was fixed in minutes. The pools looked nice but to be honest we spent most of our time on the beautiful stretch of beach this resort sits on. Getting a [... read more]round the resort was no problem with six person golf carts coming and going all the time . The trains were fun but a longer ride to get where you were going, for us the beach. There is a restaurant on the beach which is perfect for never having to leave it, it really was an awsome beach! The food was the best we have had in the Dominican and the American steakhouse was our favourite. The shopping plaza was a 15min walk or a 2 minute cart ride but is expensive. There is a local grocery store not far away for snacks if you wish. Overall this was one of our favorite resorts and we would absolutly recommend this place!

Loved this Resort!

Travelled to the Melia Caribe with my wife, sister, daughter and her husband. When we arrived we were placed all in different areas. A very special Thank You to Radaifi Garcia for changing us all to the same villa in the Level. It was amazing. We were close to the VIP lounge which was great for meeting up before or after dinner, the staff were great. The service in the Level was second to none, Anything you wanted, you got.
