We had a bad experience with booking an excursion with the staff in the towel huts. It was raining hard with thunder and lightning and heavy rain. The trip should have been cancelled as we booked a catamaran and the conditions were unsafe. We should have been refunded but the staff was laughing at us and told us we're in Mexico and we're taunting us to do something stupid. The Food wasn't very good either only the sushi was good. The entertainment staff and pool bar staff were excellent though.[... read more] Nightlife is very poor as well and if you are going with more than 4 people find a new place to go because you will never be able to eat together since they don't take reservations and don't want to accommodate you. There will be empty tables they could put together but they just won't do it. Our whole group of was very disappointed.

Amazing resort and will return.
Everything about this resort is great. The main pool is just amazing, big, relaxing and beautiful. The food at the restaurants are very good. Everyone can find something good to eat. The only little negative about the restaurants is that 1 is closed at night they rotate them. The rooms are big and the balcony is big but none really have a view because of the trees. The staff is unbelievable, friendly and always want to help. The beach is great but time of trip the water was rough (red flags) ev[... read more]ery day so only a small area we were allowed to swim. It was still great being in the water.
The resort is big so if you are not keen on walking you really have to pick out your building in conjunction on where the restaurants are.

Wonderful resort.
We loved this resort. Had a great time.
Grounds were beautiful. Very well maintained.
Excellent service. Very friendly staff.
I would highly recommend a swim up room. We were in building five. In my opinion the best section of the resort. We stayed there most of the time. Beach was beautiful. Very rough though. We only spent one day on the beach. Our swim up pool was so much fun. Paulino our waiter was the best I've ever experienced at any resort. He kept the drinks flowing all the time. Bro[... read more]ught lunch and snacks poolside everyday. Always smiling.
The main pool was beautiful with two swim up bars.
You could walk to all the restaurants. Nothing was far. But there were golf carts if you wanted a ride.
I can't say enough we had a great time.
Thank you O'Neal from Trip Cantral for recommending this resort.

Valentin Riviera Maya
Our hotel was amazing. The grounds were beautiful, staff was amazing and our room was very clean. Lots of variety at all the restaurants with very efficient service.our experience with Air Canada wasn't quite as satisfactory however. I was separated from my husband on our return flight even though I was travelling with a noticeable injury that made it difficult to navigate my way around. When we questioned why we were seated so far apart we were told that the other passengers had paid extra to c[... read more]hoose advance seating. I asked others standing in line if that was the case and none of them had paid extra. Our holiday was fairly pricey and we do not appreciate the way we were treated by Air Canada staff in Cancun. The only saving grace was the fact that it happened at the end of an otherwise enjoyable holiday. I would definitely travel to the Valentin again; however, I don't think I will chose Air Canada as my airline of preference.

Another amazing stay at the Valentin
This was our third visit to this resort and it was amazing just as the first visit was. Each time we visit we find they are always changing/improving the resort. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and impeccable. The food is very good and they offer premium alcohol. I can't say enough about the staff. Starting from the conceirge to bell boys, waiters, grounds keepers, entertainment staff, cooks, hostesses, cleaning staff. These people are friendly and will go out of their way to have a conver[... read more]sation or ask how your holiday is or just to smile and say hello. They are literally on the go at all times. I commend them on how attentive they are to every detail.
I would highly reccomend this resort.

Not dissapointed
Had an amazing time. Service was great! Entertainment staff over the top. Rooms clean and comfortable. Some bartending staff do try to trick you by not giving you the premium booze ie Greygoose. Have never been to the same resort twice but this one is a redo!

10 Year Anniversary
The wife and I decided to take a trip for our 10 year anniversary and after extensive research, decided on Mexico (runners up were Costa Rica and Jamaica). We chose the Valentin Imperial Maya (adults only) for 7 days through Air Canada Vacations. The resort is about 25 mins north of Playa del Carmen on the east coast.
We had an excellent time and were truly blown away by this resort. The flights were another matter, but that has nothing to do with the resort.
Everything about the resort wa[... read more]s first class. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. The facility was extremely well maintained and the pools were quiet or loud, depending on what you wanted. We decided to spend most of our time near the party pool with the swim up bars. The resort itself had water features everywhere, nice stonework and virtually all areas were open air, even the common area bathrooms. The weather was very consistent, sunny and ~31 degrees in the day, and calm and ~23 degrees in the evening. The evenings were perfect to walk around in long pants without getting too sweaty (pants required for the restaurants)
The downside was the beach. Although it was beautiful and manicured daily, it was quite windy this time of year. Too windy for us to stay on the beach though I did play a game of beach volley ball. The water was warm, but the undertoe was strong and the waves were pretty tall, so we opted not to swim very much. Besides, there was so much happening at the pool that we really didn't want to leave. We met tons of people and the pool activities (which ran non-stop throughout the day) kept us busy. We met around 12-15 people while we were down there and at least 80% of them had been multiple times to that resort (some as many as 10-12 times).
The food was to die for. I don't think I've ever eaten so well in my life. There was enough a la cartes to never need buffet food for the dinners, and no reservations were required except for the hibachi. As it turned out, the hibachi was entertaining, but the food was just ok compared to the restaurants. The breakfast buffet had a very wide selection of fresh fruits, meats, eggs, pancakes/waffles, omelette and cereal bars, basically anything you wanted was probably there. As it turned out, we didn't really eat lunch when we were there except for one time, and the lunch buffet was good. Noteworthy items at the a la cartes were the Filet Mignon (italian), sea bass (french), sushi (japanese) and the cold spring rolls from the indonesian restaurant....in fact, the indonesian was my favourite despite not being a big fan of spicy food. But all the a la cartes receive top marks in my opinion.
We didn't feel the need to venture off resort, though next time we go I definitely want to goto Coco Bongo's in Playa. We heard a few reviews from other guests and it definitely sounded like fun. The ruins was not a top priority for us and most of them were pretty far away. Chichen Itza was a 5 hour round trip. I did want to do the underground cave swim, but the cost was quite high so we declined.
We only attended a few shows since most nights we were completely burnt out....of the ones we say, the fire show was the best.
There were only a couple small annoyances. Firstly, the hibachi is insanely popular and we didn't get in on our first try despite showing up at 9am and not seeing anyone in line (our concierge did get us a reservation for the next day though). Secondly, the fire alarm in the room was directly over our bed and had an annoying flashing light...a small annoyance but still there nonetheless. Lastly, the shower in our room didn't quite have an anti-scald shower valve, so it did happen on occasion when the water went from warm to very hot (not ideal with sunburns)...it wasn't terribly bad, just happened a few times. All of these minor annoyances were way overcome with the service, food and pristine facilities.
Ultimately, we would not hesitate to stay here again...it really was quite fantastic.

As good as our previous visits
this was our 4th visit to the Valentin Imperial maya. everything was pretty much as expected from our arrival with prompt check in, receiving the room quite rapidly to getting to the room with the bell boy. At night, the food in the restaurants was as nice as it was in our previous visits. The services is always great, the only place the service is usually a notch below is the Mexican restaurant, I noticed that in all of our visits, this restaurant is the one where the service is a bit disorga[... read more]nized compare to the other restaurants. The greeting staff at the restaurant by the beach for breakfast and lunch are very efficient, some servers are better than others but in general things go quite smoothly. I find that there is less food variety at the beach restaurant at lunch time than previous visit, there is still quite a lot to choose from but I can see the difference between each of our visit in the last 2 years. The cushions at the outdoor restaurant terraces and the beach restaurant are getting a bit thin and not comfy to sit on for an extended period of time, It might be time to upgrade them. This is still one of our favourite place on the mayan riviera and we will return soon. Maybe a quick note to mention that the workers at these resorts work hard and us the people visiting the resorts should not be cheap with our tips.

Fantastic week!
This was our third year in a row at the resort! Each time gets better and better. The staff are fabulous, Gilberto at the Mar y Tierra was very gracious and helpful for our breakfasts. The restaurants are all world class! The Suites are clean, comfortable and spacious. We had a small hiccup that was fixed right away and followed up by the concierge to ensure things were to our satisfaction. The beach area is excellent for walking or just sitting and relaxing. The pool areas are very very well ma[... read more]intained. We could go on and on but suffice it to say that we are very happy and satisfied and not only will we be recommending this resort we are already looking forward to our visit number 4.

Amazing Resort
This resort is big and beautiful in every way possible. The grounds are impeccable with paved walk ways or wood walk ways to restaurants and the beach. The architecture of this resort is amazing. The landscaping is amazingly beautiful. The rooms are spacious, modern and cozy with every thing you need to enjoy your stay. The restaurants have everything imaginable to satisfy your taste buds. The food and service at these restaurants is truly a dinning experience. The entertainment people crea[... read more]te an enthusiastic atmosphere for everyone to join in the fun. The pools are beautiful with lots of scenery around them. The staff at this resort make you feel like a queen or king and they offer services above and beyond your expectation. Everyone at this resort is so friendly that you just feel so much at home and ease. The beach is nice also but I have seen better. The service at the beach is great though.
Overall this resort is well worth the money to spend your vacation. I definitely recommend this resort to everyone. You won't be disappointed!

A piece of paradise
This was an amazing resort. From the grand entrance way to the property, the pool area, restaurants, rooms and down to the beach, everything was fantastic. Walkways through out the resort where scenic and well manicure for an easy morning or late evening stroll. Entertainment was great and the staff very friendly. We will definitely return to this resort for another vacation. Recommend 100%.

Wow!
We stayed at the Valentin Imperial Maya in January 2017 to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Wow! What a beautiful resort. Every aspect of the trip was fantastic. The setting is very Hawaii like with lush vegetation and a very jungle like feel. It's a huge resort that spreads over a very large area. The beach is great with lots of room to spread out and no rush to reserve chairs. The ocean was very swimmable and there was no typical drop-off just off shore.Staff was super friendly and attentive and[... read more] always went out of their way to make sure all was 100%. Lastly the food was A+ as well. The al a carte choices were very authentic to their theme and extremely delicious. No reservations or waiting at any of the restaurants. We stayed three nights at a swim up room (a bit noisy around the pool with partiers) and 4 nights ocean front (out the patio door right to the ocean!). Lastly as one of the first drop offs after the Cancun airport the bus ride is super short there and back.

Beautiful
Can't say enough about this resort. 2nd time for us and still in awe of the lush private surroundings. We had a ground floor room which was very nice, quiet at night. We tried all the restaurants, no complaints. Lots to do in the evenings, no problem getting a chair at the beach. Weather was absolutely beautiful. Can't wait till next time.

A Wonderful Place!
It was simply amazing. The service was wonderful. The food was great in all the restaurants. I was disappointed in the beach and the sea but it could be the time of year we visited the resort. The sea was rough for the 12 days we were there so we were not able to do any water sports or swim in the sea. It was difficult to walk on the beach as the water was so rough. I would rate the resort very high.

Excellent Resort
This resort was referred to us by our travel agent, Laura Spry from Trip Central in Sudbury, we asked for an all inclusive and adults only, Valentin Imperial Maya certainly is a five stars plus.
The service was amazing, staff were helpful, courteous, friendly and ever so ready to serve you. Waiters all paying attention to your needs, on tiny details and/ or when asked are ready to offer their top choices from the menu. The food; ever so wonderfully prepared by the chefs in all 5 A La Carte re[... read more]staurants plus the 2 dinning rooms for breakfast/lunch.
The beach sand soft to the feet and great for those long walks.
I give this Resort 5 stars plus and ready to return any time and of course highly recommend Valentin Imperial Maya as your destination Resort.

4th Visit and Still Fabulous
We returned from our fourth 2 weeks visit to the Valentin Imperial Maya hotel and we will definitely be returning for a fifth visit. This hotel has everything that we look for in a 5 star hotel. From the amazing grounds that are always kept in immaculate and beautiful condition to the great food and amazing service at all of the restaurants, and the fabulous beach and pools this hotel has everything you could want. We have been to many other resorts in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Cuba and[... read more] this resort is by far our favourite.
There are a good variety of rooms to choose from. We always choose the Golden Junior Suite and although more expensive than the basic rooms which are also very nice the Golden Junior Suite offers a little more room and the they surround the lazy river pool which is much quieter than the larger main pool which we appreciate.
We also always choose the privilege package as there are a couple of things in the package that we really value. The first is the ability to make reservations at all of the restaurants. We like to go to dinner at a certain time so with reservations we don't have to wait during the busy dinner time between 7-9 pm. The food continues to be of high quality and the service just seems to get better and better each time we go (if that is even possible). The staff at this hotel are amazing! The second major benefit is having a reserved spot at either the pool or the beach whichever you prefer. I love this benefit because I never have to worry about getting to the beach early enough to get a good spot. Your spot is reserved for the whole time you are staying at the resort and there are no issues with having as many towels as you would like. There are a number of other perks with the privilege package but these are the two that we value the most.
Although the resort is quite large it never feels overly busy. The grounds and walkways are fabulous for taking daily walks and there is lots to keep you busy if you so choose. The beach also offers a great swimming area and the ability for long walks along the beach. The beach certainly isn't as good as Bavaro Beach in the Dominican Republic but is still quite good.
If you are looking for a resort that is adults only and has pretty much everything you could ask for then this is the resort for you.
