Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres All Suite Resort: luxury Resort
I had an incredible stay at this hotel. Everything about it felt luxurious, from the beautifully designed rooms to the overall atmosphere throughout the property. The food was exceptional, with every meal exceeding expectations, and the service was consistently outstanding. Housekeeping kept everything spotless and truly added to the comfort of the stay. I swear they came twice a day.
A special shoutout to the entertainment team, especially Jorge Valles. He was absolutely fantastic, always smil[... read more]ing, always welcoming, and genuinely inclusive. He made everyone feel comfortable joining in and brought such positive energy to every activity. His enthusiasm really elevated the entire experience.
This hotel delivers luxury in every sense, and I can’t recommend it enough. I’m already looking forward to returning.

Majestic Mirage Costa Mujeres All Suite Resort: Supper place to stay for a week.
The staff were top rated. Always a hello and big smile. Quick to help. Food was in abundance warm, fresh fruit and vegetables. Rooms huge, spacious. Lovely towels. Beautiful sand beaches lots of places to relax at the pool or beach.
Did not like being asked to pay US Dollars. It screened that I was staying in an American resort and not Mexico resort. That was not fair. We paid 28. dollars US for a deck of cards in a store at the hotel. Very disappointed in that.

Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Great Beach-Poor Service
We usually really enjoying staying at any of the Royalton owned resorts, unfortunately this one left us a little disappointed. The resort grounds were beautiful and very well kept. The food overall was good with lots of variety, which made it easy to find something for everyone each day. The beach was a standout—soft sand, crystal blue water, and truly stunning. It was one of the best parts of the trip. Unfortunately, the room felt very run down, even after an upgrade to the star class side. We [... read more]got the Entourage suite which is a king bed with a pull out couch for the four of us- we arrived really late at the resorts and there were no sheets or blankets for the kids bed- when we asked for them, they just gave us sheets and no blankets (this was at 2am- so at that point we just made due for the night) we didn’t receive a duvet until night 3. The cabinet doors wouldn’t close, drawers didn’t open properly, lifted ceiling tile in the bathroom, and the shower head was falling off the wall to name a few examples. Housekeeping was minimal (no sweeping or shower cleaning), and we had to repeatedly ask for towels and for the bar fridge to be restocked with water. Lines were long throughout the resort (45 min wait at the coffee shop). The pools were advertised as heated but were freezing cold and went mostly unused by anyone all week (I think the whole week we were there, there might have been a hand full of people using it)- we found out this issue has been on going since November. It was still nice to get away, and any one of these issues on its own would have been manageable. However, taken together, they left a sour taste and didn’t quite live up to expectations for a resort at this level.

Hotel Dos Playas Faranda: Great location
We were in room 1604, second closest room to the main road. Surprisingly, the road noise was minimal. However the fellow with the megaphone trying to sell excursions started at about 7 am, thankfully only intermittingly.
Our room was a little dated, but functional. Wifi was spotty. The shower only had hot water, no way were we able to budge the cold water tap. It was fine, it did not get uncomfortably hot. The girl that cleaned our room was super nice and helpful and did a great job.
The [... read more]majority of the staff at the bars, servers etc. were very good.
The food was great on certain days, especially the Mexican Fiesta night. Other times I was filling up on salads which is not normal for me. I do not like onions and can be a picky eater, so my view of the food might not be accurate for others.
At times there was a fair bit of waiting to eat.
The grounds were fantastic and the Iguanas added to the authentic Mexican vibe. The ocean and beeches are very good, the waves never got
too rough which they tend to do on other areas of the hotel zone.
The pools were very nice and they have activities to get you up and moving.

Riu Latino: Great resort!
This resort is very clean and well kept. The rooms are spacious and bright. All public areas are in good shape and the washrooms by the pools and public areas are always being cleaned. The food in the buffet is fresh and there is quite a variety (although sometimes it's not as hot as it could be). The a la cartes could be a bit better. Service was slow at times for some tables and not others and the food was OK but not great. Nightly entertainment was enjoyable. The beach is beautiful.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a flight issue (totally unrelated to the resort) and the front desk was very accommodating in letting us use their phone and helping out with Spanish translation.

Occidental Costa Cancun: Good resort. Beach not as pictured.
|This resort is beautiful when lit up at night! Good variety of food available, 24 hour snack bar, specialty restaurants were great. No swim up bar, but there is a bar close to the pool, the lobby, and the beach. Small resort means less walking to get to amenities, but still lots of spaces for guests to sit. Room was as expected, but we backed onto the street and it was loud. Bartenders made fabulous drinks. Hotel giftshop is expensive, and exchange rate on credit card is even worse. Had a sligh[... read more]t problem at check-out. Our trip confirmation email said noon, but the hotel said it was 11am, tried to charge us an additional fee by the hour! We disputed it. Our airport shuttle pick up was scheduled for 5:10pm due to evening flight. The hotel said we were all inclusive until 3pm only. The beach area is very small, and in a bay busy with boats. There was alot to watch, but not a serene beach experience. Zero nightlife after 11pm, daily 7pm piano player is fab, 9pm nightly entertainer was fun. My favorites were Circus night and Karaoke. Some of the guests are so talented!

Dreams Sands Cancun Resort and Spa: Mixed Emotions
Although we've landed at this airport many times, this is the first time we actually stayed in the Cancun area. The weather was not great - cloudy and occasional showers all week, but the wind blew every day!! So much so that the ocean was off limits a couple of times. I could be wrong, but I believe the location of this resort contributes to the windy conditions. The beach is very narrow, and they've had to put sand bags down, probably to slow down the erosion. The beach is better just a short [... read more]walk away to the next resort (or condo).
The service was great. We appreciated the waiter service poolside, or to your lounge chair on the beach. This isn't offered at every resort. The restaurant staff is also very hard working and friendly. Appreciated the coffee bar in the lobby - this is also something we look for in a resort.
Our room was .... okay. It needed repairs, and there was a sewage smell coming from the shower drain. We had a balcony, which was great, as not all rooms had one. The room was clean, and the maid service was done early.
This resort doesn't hand out wrist bands, and doesn't issue towel cards. I think they should rethink the towel card policy, as people would just walk away from their lounge chairs without taking their towels with them. Then you didn't know if the chair was still 'taken' or not. However, the resort did have a gentleman who would monitor these things, and would gladly remove towels for you if he felt they were abandoned.
There is shopping within walking distance, although prices are up, and bargains are hard to find anywhere. There were also beach vendors around ... not too many, and not aggressive.
I also felt there was a little too much selling going on inside the hotel - either for excursions, for the spa, or for the Preferred Service (where you get to pay extra for exclusive areas on the beach, pool, etc.). I guess I had a different idea of what the 'Dreams' brand was, and overall came away disappointed.

Riu Caribe Cancun: Acceptable Vacation
I paid more for this resort than I did for my vacation in Sept 2025 staying at a villa.
In most resorts the restaurants are a dining experience but here the restaurants are buffet with a served entree.
I didn't have eat at Kulinarium because they gave me a pager and told me that it would be a 15 min wait but when I came back 30 min later to see what was going on, the restaurant was all set up and empty. The bad part was I proceeded to the buffet and it was closed so I had to settle for a sandw[... read more]ich at the sports bar. I don't think the buffet lives up to RIU standards. I would categorize it to be weak. The rooms seemed to have been renovated and very nice. As a single traveler I paid a $500 surcharge and was given a room that overlooked a back alley with a Taxi waiting zone. I didn't complain or ask to be moved. Room service was very thorough. I didn't find the pool bar staff to be overly friendly until they were tipped. I must say in general I didn't see a lot of tipping. I DO TIP!!. The Lobby Bar & Sports Bar were very friendly and efficient, popcorn & peanuts a great touch. I didn't experience any problem for a lounge chair and I didn't come out before 8:30am. The stretch of beach is only the width of the resort. I like to walk past many resorts. Property is in good condition. Check in and out was good. I wasn't to impressed that on departure, I wasn't allowed to take my duffle bag on wheels into the buffet because it was considered a carry-on. but inflated back packs were allowed. I've been travelling twice a year to Mexico for 35 years and never experienced this.

Grand Oasis Palm: Do not book this hotel
It took over 1 hour to check in and we were 2nd in line at 1am. The front desk lady refused to check in my mom in her own room saying that her room was not ready and then changed her mind and said she had to go to a different lobby in another building for someone to check her in. When she got there, they told her the original lady should have checked her in and this is now 2 hours later. Pools are not heated so they are extremely cold. They are all well over 5'7 feet even at the kids watersid[... read more]e by the pirate ship so you need to have a life jacket for them unless they are extremely good swimmers. There are no loungers around the pools and not enough on the beach. If you want a lounger, you must grab one before 715am. The APP to book a la cartes was working however, we were never able to book even right at 8am when the reservation system opened because they were always "full". Rooms are small and always smelled musty. The bathrooms were even smaller! Food was very much the same each day with 1 or 2 dishes that were swapped. During the week, there is no evening entertainment until 930pm so there is nothing to do after dinner until the night show. Weekends they do have live music or some activities starting around 8pm. Bars close really early at 1130 throughout the resort with the exception of 1 bar that I believe closes at 1230. I am not a picky traveller and have gone to places like Cuba and although their food is pretty bad, the resorts and overall experience there is so much better.

Riu Dunamar: nice, small resort
If you’re coming to Mexico mainly for pool time and drinks, this place will suit you. But beyond the hotel itself, there’s really nowhere to walk or explore in the evenings.
The beach has beautiful white sand and is very long, great for walking. Unfortunately, during our stay it was extremely windy with big waves, which made getting into the water — let alone swimming — quite difficult. There are no umbrellas on the beach, only tall palm trees, which can be an issue if you’re looking for prop[... read more]er shade.
The main pool didn’t feel as large as it looks in the photos. It was quite crowded and full of kids most of the time.
The room was fine — clean, with a balcony and a distant ocean view overlooking most of the hotel complex. Once the windows were closed, it was quiet enough at night.
As for the restaurants, the main buffet was good, with a decent variety of food, fruits, juices, coffee, breads, cookies, and ice cream. There are about 4–5 à la carte restaurants and no reservation is required, which sounds convenient, but in practice it means waiting anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour for a table. The menus were the same throughout the week. What was supposed to be the “gourmet” restaurant ended up being the worst dining experience.
Our flight home was very late, so we asked (and offered to pay) for a late checkout. Management showed no flexibility. In the evening we were told to come back in the morning to speak with the manager, who simply told us it wasn’t possible. It felt like the issue was just passed along rather than addressed. Checkout is strictly at 12:00.
Overall, this was disappointing. I won’t be returning.

Hyatt Vivid Cancun: Five blissful nights in heaven
Honestly, I had an amazing stay at Dreams Vista Cancun. While there was a huge snowstorm sweeping through Southern Ontario, I was on the beach in Mexico, sipping pina coladas, and for this alone, I have to give this resort a 5/5 rating.
Food - I'd say it's on the above average side. Your food experience heavily depends on how much initiative you're willing to take on this trip. If you can be bothered to take 1 minute in the morning to reserve one of the specialty restaurants on their app, th[... read more]en you'll have a great time. If you rely on walking up to the restaurants during peak dining times, then you're going to end up eating at the buffet or having room service. As for the food quality, the specialty restaurants are a small step above what you'd typically get at a nice sit-down Toronto restaurant. My sister is a foodie, and she was happy with what she ate. The buffet is a different story. Their buffet does offer a variety of continental and Mexican food, but it's not as tasty since it's not fresh. The meat gets tough, bacon gets hard, and there's not much you can do about it. The saving grace for the buffet is their made-to-order stations that whip up burgers, eggs, and smoothies. That's always a good choice if you're stuck at the buffet.
Drinks - I don't drink, but my sister does. There were several times when she noted how strong her drinks were.
Service - Amazing. Everyone we met was super kind and non-solicitous of tips. I had an issue booking the restaurant through the app, and an employee was not only able to book our reservations for the night, but also fix the issue. 10/10. No notes.
Beach/pool - Beach is tiny, but it's still a beach! It is well maintained. Yeah, there is seaweed, but a team clears it every day. The sand quality is good, but not as great as Cuban beaches. The main pool is meticulously maintained. On the last day when I was checking out, I saw 2 guys in googles scouring the entire length of the pool. I hope they are paid well, because they did an amazing job. I don't think I've ever swam in such a clean pool in my life. There was also a jacuzzi, it was nice when the weather was in the low 20's, but it's not super warm.
Rooms - Extremely clean. For a climate that is muggy and humid, I didn't detect a hint of mould in the washroom or on the linens. The decor is modern except the room phone. The balcony view is to die for, but doesn't face the sunset, but if you're an early bird, you can catch the sunset. The noise level is very good. There's no obnoxious music playing on the premise or surrounding resorts at night, A/C is whisper-quiet. We were woken up by other guests in the middle of the night, but that only happened once during our stay.
Word of warning - after check in, you will be asked if you want to participate in a 90-minute sales presentation to check out Hyatt's other products. You'll be asked to purchase multi-decade travel packages costing around 20-40k or ~$300-500/ month. They lure you in with a coupons AND a voucher for 2 nights 3 days at the resort, which you'd assume is free, but it's NOT. It's merely a voucher for a DISCOUNT on a 2n3d stay. You actually have to pay 300 USD for the stay. The sales presentation is NOT 90-minutes, it's 3 hours out of your vacation. Initially, they'll pair you with a point of contact. They're very cordial and ask about your vacation habits, then you'll meet their manager, who is equally nice, but if you decline their offer, they'll send in a sales agent who is extremely aggressive. Just decline 3 times. Do not engage with the questions. Finally, they'll hit you with a final deal, which is another vacation similar to the one you've already paid for, then they finally let you leave. For most people, this experience will NOT be worth it and extremely unpleasant. I strongly recommend you decline participating in this sales presentation.
Overall, I had an amazing and relaxing stay, barring the unpleasant sales experience, which you can easily decline. I wasn't part of the preferred club, and I still had an amazing time. As I'm writing this review with a driveway full of snow and a yellow warning for freezing temperatures, I'm getting nostalgic for Mexico!!
