Could be better!

Beach-good, rooms-good, food -hardly 3 star, they don't care how to cook, dirty feel ,smoke in the restaurant, Wed nov 27 some bosses came for the conference - the food was better. Not enough fresh greens and fruit. . Entertainment - same dancers every night.. Not diluted vine only in a Sport bar. Bad management although lots of resources invested.(((((((

Super resort

This resort was great! The food was better than expected (I didn’t have high standards because it’s Cuba). The bread, pork and beef were fantastic. The Indian À la carte was phenomenal. The staff were really nice and loved our two little ones. This is a great resort for families.

Awesome Resort!!

Was just at this resort and it was totally awesome. It was clean, well-run, and very easy to find the different venues. The staff is amazing, they are some of the best that I have ever encountered. This was our second visit to this resort and would definitely visit again. They really take care of their guests and go above and beyond. Many of the staff remembered us and it was nice to feel that warmth upon our return.

Not for me! Not 5 star at all!

Grounds were nice Pools were good Maid service was good. Transportation to and from airport good and on time FOOD looked good, barely warm always soggy ! Take nothing from steamer trays, it's terrible! Mini bar never restocked Bar at pool always running out of pop for children, come back in 20 minutes, Out of plastic cups! Again! Good place to vacation

The hotel was as good as we thought it would be as it was our 5th time at Muthu. The staff were amazing, as for the food at the start it was not that good but after the 3rd day it was a lot better.The beech still needs a lot of work.

Beautiful

We went in the slow season so beach restaurant was not open. Food was good. Absolutely the best shrimp curry at the seafood restaurant and authentic Indian restaurant a la Carter. Impressed! Mix up w ocean view room and due to off season two buildings were closed. Beach was dirty w seaweed most days and aside from beach area, the beach front was rocky and littered. Staff was pleasant and pools were beautiful. Entertainment staff was excellent. Gym was good but employee at gym would not ta [... read more]ke no for an answer and was pushy in an uncomfortable way. Morning champagne and orange juice was serviced all but 2 days on a 9 day trip. Kids pool very quiet and fun!!

Fantastic Beach

Loved the fact that it was low season. Pool and beach weren’t crowded, didn’t have to fight the lines at the buffet. Rooms were clean and food was adequate. Staff were friendly, and kind. The cafe bar tender Jose was excellent

Fantastic Family Vacation

Our family of four travelled to Grand Muthu October 11th to 18th. Natalie Collura from Tripcentral assisted with our booking, we had a few needs that were all fully accommodated upon our arrival thanks to her requests., Travel with Air Transat was effortless, the online check in both here and in Cuba is so convenient! This would be our 6th time to Cuba so we are well aware of what to expect in relation to food choices and amenities. The amenities were above our expectations, the resort is fair [... read more]ly new, modern, beds are comfortable and it is kept cleaned and in good repair from what we saw. The food was as expected, we did not go hungry and my teenage boys feasted on fresh fish and meats grilled to order daily. The Indian Restaurant was overbooked and we did wait to about an hour after our reservation however felt it was worth the wait, my suggestion would be to book early for this one. Food however is not what draws us back to Cuba, the beaches were amazing and as usual staff never cease to amaze us, we always feel welcomed and cared for during our stay. Draw backs to October travel... resorts are not at capacity so often not all amenities ore offered, no Churro cart, restaurants alternate days, less food choices, we however are happy to trade these for lack of line ups or competition for chair etc. A warning but certainly not a criticism.. Mosquitos are horrible this time of year, Bring bug spray and afterbite!!!!

Again, no complaints. However please get rid of the flies in the buffet! We will be back next year! !

GRAND MUTHU CAYO GUILLERMO

We stayed at the Grand Muthu from 6 - 13 September 2019 travelling from Toronto on Air Transat. The mosquitos inside the Cayo Coco airport were awful. Everyone was swatting until we got to our air conditioned bus. It was the same leaving the airport a week later. We arrived late in the evening with 6 other passengers on our bus. The room was large and beautifully decorated. The mini fridge held a 2 L bottle of water, 2 Bucaneer beer and 2 Colas. This is the 1st resort I have stayed in in Cuba that has screen doors on the patio/balcony to enjoy the natural breeze without bugs flying inside. Next morning, we took the short walk to the buffet. The cooks and staff were smiling and friendly and the food selection was appetizing. However, dining was a challenge while waving away house flies that were constantly lighting on the table surface. It was the same all week. The beach was lovely. Many palappas and loungers. The water was too clouded to snorkel but a 5 CUC bus ride took you to Playa Pilar beach where you rented your chair and bought food and drinks. Another bus took you to a market in Cayo Coco. The hotel's gift store was very small with limited items for sale. The pools were big, lovely and clean. Nobody used the bali beds around the pools because the coverings were so badly stained. The bartenders and drinks were top of the line. We always tipped because the wait staff, cooks and bartenders were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Shout out to my favourite chef, William, who grilled my meat to perfection using tasty spices I enjoyed so much. Mosquitos were abundant at night. Evening shows were well done. The animation team, led by Carlos, was upbeat and non stop in providing activities for the guests. The a la cartes were disappointing. I was especially looking forward to the Indian because we love curry dishes. The set menu had no curry spice. There were 4 dishes in different sauces but we didn't recognize the taste in either the beef, chicken, lamb or vegetarian dishes. They were all very bland. The Italian restaurant offered lasagna but again, the meat and sauce were tasteless. The cheese topping was good. The Seafood a la carte, to my surprize, offered curried shrimp that was delicious and should have been on the Indian a la carte menu because it actually had curry in the recipe. The fish offering was a huge piece of very dark flesh fish my husband said was too fishy and salty for him. The broccoli and vegetables were boiled to mush. The buffet food was better. We changed rooms because the noise from the music and microphone was too loud for us. We are seniors and spend more time in our room than the younger guests. Our 2nd quieter room was perfect but the air conditioner was broken and couldn't be repaired so they moved us midweek to our 3rd room on the same floor but the toilet wouldn't fill with water to flush......little repair things that were annoying and not expected of a 4+ resort. The hotel bills itself as 5 star and Air Transat describes it as 4.5*. The 5 star Grand Muthu Imperial located next door is adults only. There were a lot of children the week we were there. The resort has an excellent kids program. We would return to the Grand Muthu and the picturesque area again.

Good value for your money

The hotel is clean, the room is spacious with a modern bathroom. Our housekeeper was very attentive, the rest of the staff was ok. The buffet had little variety, breakfast was the same every day. THE BEACH IS WONDERFUL!!!!

Can’t wait to go back!!!!

This hotel was fabulous, it was clean, modern and energy efficient! The food wasn’t so bad like I’ve heard, the Indian À la cart was so good we tried to book another night and was unable to because it was booked up. The staff was hard working and the grounds were very well maintained. Like I said “ I cannot wait to go back.

Family vacation!

We enjoyed our stay at the resort. Modern Newer Hotel with great potential but unfortunately was expecting a bit more. We visited Cuba more than 7 times and with this standard of Hotel we were expecting a lot more. Starting from the positives. The rooms were great. Most of the staff ie. reception, bar, and restaurants very helpful and work very hard. Especially in the heat the bar staff worked in harsh heat and were always attentive. As well as the snack bar staff and cook who really changed the oil for our daughter to maker her some fries ( she has celiac disease) (When the Cubans came, then the service exceptionally dropped as they would bud in lines in front and were served ahead of many people just because they spoke the language or something) For example I stood in line for a stir-fry with my daughter, the individual stood two people behind us then all of a sudden he communicated to the cook and picked up a plate and went in front of my daughter and took half of the meat off the grill and took off. Meanwhile we stood there like idiots. The drinks were great, the coffee very good. Loved the beach and the gardens as well as the layout which made it close to everything. Now the negatives: Food was horrible, we are not picky but it really was. If it wouldn't be for eggs, bread and Panini there really wasn't much. We are careful with what we eat and prefer grill and fried so we don't get poisoning. We also veggiesbut there was none but we were ok w that. The stir fries were ok at best but eating same thing everyday was becoming very tiresome. so towards the end we just stuck with bread and butter . The flies in the buffet were disgusting crawling over all the food and for that reason we preferred freshly made things. The fact that the Cubans came was fine but they were rude and left garbage everywhere. The lack of entertainment after the show was ridiculous everything closed after 11. The snack bar was the only place to be. The beach chairs were locked we couldn't come down earlier than 7 just to relax on the beach. The beach was dirty filled with plastic cups in the morning the workers were lazy to pick them up. Most of the time we would pick them up because couldn't bare to find them in the water later. All in all it was ok. Great weather great beach some great people working there perhaps making up for the lazy ones. Wouldn't recommend the hotel and most likely wouldn't be returning.

Great vacation at Grand Muthu

Great time at Grand Muthu resort on a family vacation at end of July, 2019. Front reception (Surely) was very quick and accommodated our requests promptly especially the room change for my mom from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor. The hotel is beautiful, staff members are very friendly. The entertainment staff, especially the twins were very energetic and fun to be around; the nightly shows were quite amazing, really enjoyed them. The beach and the water were beautiful and safe.

Amazing hotel and staff at MGM in Cuba

Thank you to all the staff at MGM. Our family adored being part of your MGM family for our 7 day stay. It was an amazing experience from the moment we arrived July 25 to the moment we left. Our room stay at room 7115 was beautiful. We loved every person that works there. My kids adored Lendys who is the blond lady who runs the kids entertainment every night at 8pm. Jose Gomez he is such an amazing entertainer and dancer (our kids adored him and I enjoyed doing meditation and Zumba on the beach with Jose. We have to say MGM has the best entertainment, lights show at the theatre and D.J. Daniel the D.J. Is so amazing at his work. Ilen., Denise, Jose, Carlos Rodrigues, Daniela, Yaritza Pol, ilian, Helen, Carlos at the bar, Rafael at the bar amazing work and dedication to the hotel. You all and all who I have not mentioned have made our family trip one to remember and wanting to go back to. We made many friends and I loved the shows and being part of the show. My kids loved everything. From our family thank you. We went to pilar beach most beautiful beach. I look forward to returning. Staff and managers on site want everyone to enjoy their stay, and if you have a concern staff are there to help. Overall our family vacation was amazing.

Great Resort

New resort with grand views and beautiful pools. Great activities in pool and fun games. Thank you Ilean and rest of Entertainment staff for fun times. I did not like the beach too much and sections of it was smelly. However it was only a small section- rest was ok. Would go back again.

Great Potential- missed on few areas

Beautiful new resort that is going through some growing pains. The GOOD: - ocean view was breathtaking, Amazing pool and a la-carte options. food was very good at restaurants (must try the Indian Restaurant) and staff very friendly -The BAD: - Beach was not as good as some developed resorts. Sharp, Stoney and parts had weeds not cleaned - one of my rooms had the AC broken and was not fixed till last day before leaving, buffet does not have enough options if you don’t eat meat - tech [... read more]nology challenges: room cards malfunctioned and needed multiple replacement, rooms had digital AC controls difficult to figure out, room phones did not work Overall - would definitely go back. One of the most beautiful resort with amazing view and pools. Manage expectations on buffet options if vegetarian and where tech is used it’s a bit of a nuisance.

Love Grand Muthu Imperial!

Stayed from June 23-30 in Building #7 on the ground floor. Only wish we’d been given an ocean view room (given hotel was very low occupancy, not sure why we were not). I cannot say enough good things about this resort. It exceeded all expectations and is, by far, the best resort we’ve been to in Cuba (and we’ve been to quite a few). Food, beverages, entertainment, service, reception, cambio, décor, pools, beach – everything was outstanding. Special beach lunches during the week included paella day, black rice day and pig roast day. Outstanding live music on pig roast day and the poor musicians continued to play throughout a drenching rainstorm – talk about “the show must go on”. The a la carte restaurants were outstanding – enjoyed our dinners there very much. We did a romantic dinner one evening in the gazebo at the beach – it was very good but not outstanding. Snorkeling excursion on the catamarans from the beach. Cost was 25CUC per person for a 2 hour excursion about a mile off shore – gorgeous reef teeming with life. Definitely worth it. Angel was our skipper and he was fantastic. The staff are awesome! Special shout outs to Yasma and Niche (sp?) on the entertainment team and waitress Mahelis as well as our housekeeper (cannot remember her name). We did not go to Playa Pilar – the beach at the hotel was great so did not feel a need. Did go to Lobster Shack which we loved. Antonio (food & beverages manager) was too grumpy. Cannot wait to return!

Awesome resort

This was an awesome resort from the rooms to the staff. The resort was clean and well cared for and it made for an amazing stay. I loved the pool and the bars where they drinks were excellent especially at the Snack Bar and the Lobby Bar. Some of the staff were beyond exceptional including the evening bar staff in the Lobby, Yemmy in the buffet restaurant and Ilian and Ilen from the entertainment staff.
