The experience I had was outstanding! Complete privacy if that's your intention. We didnt have the package with all the perks and even then, we're totally stoked on making our way back to this level of luxury.
I think my wife is already planning the next one!

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Fabulous Resort, except the beach
My husband and I traveled to Bahia Principe April 13-23rd. It was our first time to Jamaica and we LOVED it. The resort was wonderful. Beautifully manicured, grounds very well maintained. The building closest by the big beach was a little weathered but not a big deal. The food was great. Our room was superb. We were given a room on the 7th floor of building 23, facing the pool and the ocean. A lot of activities happening throughout the day and night - be sure to check the show and activity board[... read more]s posted. The onLy disappoint was the beach. We are beach bums and love the long walks on the beach. You won’t get that at the property. The beach at the resort was beautiful and the ocean water was crystal clear every day. Every morning there was maintenance staff at 7am racking the sand and cleaning up anything that washed up ashore. The staff at the resort was very nice and helpful.

Excellence Oyster Bay: Amazing resort
Our recent stay at Excellence Oyster Bay was wonderful.
We were greeted at the hotel with a glass of champagne and a cool towel. Registration was easy, but we had to wait before accessing our room since we requested an upgrade to a room with private pool. While we waited, the receptionist escorted us to the dining room for the lunch buffet. We returned to the desk after lunch and our room still wasn’t ready. We wait at least another hour and a half before finally accessing our room. The re[... read more]ceptionist was very apologetic and courteous and explained that cleaning a room takes time. We understand that, but a 3 hour total wait for cleaning a room which had just been vacated is unreasonable. It would have been nice to have some sort of compensation for that.
The room was wonderful. Everything you need: a pillow top kingsize bed, pillow menu, large TV, bathrobes and slippers, walk-in closet, laptop size safe with USB plug inside safe, iron, steamer, double sink, marble floors, double size rain shower, hairdryer, scale, and all the shampoo and stuff you need.
There is a large living room (sliding divider) with L-shaped couch, desk, TV, rocking chair, two coffee tables. Adjacent to the patio doors is a square jacuzzi tub with towels, bath gel and incense. Our patio was very large with a double lounger bed, two chairs, another double lounger bed in private area next to jacuzzi. At the end of the deck, there was a 15ft. x 15ft. pool with walk-in stairs. Requesting the upgrade to a room with private pool was totally worth it for us. It was so nice to dip in the pool after a day at the beach or first thing before breakfast.
There are 8 restaurants and 10 bars. We ate at all restaurants with exception to the sports bar. The food was excellent. The dishes are refined and prepared with fresh and local ingredients. I ate lobster 3 days in a row! It was unlimited! Chez Isabelle had a special dish of lobster thermidor and it was the best I have ever had! The steaks were pretty good too and the salads were creative and fresh. There is no buffet at night so people go to one of the 8 restaurants. No reservations required! Never any line ups! Service is impeccable.
There is 24-hour room service with a fairly extensive menu. All included in your stay.
The room is equipped with mini bar ( beer, juices, water, snacks) in addition to full-size bottles of vodka, rum, scotch whiskey). It also has a french press espresso coffee maker and they supply Blue Mountain coffee. The mini fridge is restocked daily but once we had to request additional water since we had used bottled water to make coffee. On a few occasions, we had to request creamer sachets for our coffee. I seems that the person in charge of restocking didn’t pay attention to that at all.
On a few occasions, we thought the room could have been cleaned better. Sometimes the waist basket wasn’t emptied or the small hand towels weren’t replenished. The timing of the room cleaning was too late for our liking (3:30-4pm). We are usually back from the beach by then and like to shower and relax in the room before getting ready to go out for a drink and dinner.
The staff (restaurants, bars, maids, concierge, receptionists, groundskeepers, etc.) was the most friendly staff we have ever encountered. Polite, serviable and never overbearing. Anything you need, they responded quickly. We had a concierge that checked in with us occasionally to see if everything was ok.
The hotel has a games room (pool tables, ping pong, foosball, darts, checkers). From what we heard, it has a nice gym and spa but we didn’t go. They offer the regular activities like snorkeling, sailing, archery, aqua size, etc.
The beach is clean, white powdery sand. If you go out about 30 feet, you will have sea grass but it’s no big deal. There are beach beds all over in addition to lounge chairs. There are plenty of canopies to hide from the hot sun or just cool down once and a while. Barmaids come to you.
In addition to the beach, there are 3 very large pools. One is on the sky deck of one of the restaurants and it’s an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Another one is heated and the other is regular temperature. At each corner of the pools, there are heated jacuzzis.
The property is large and is on a double-gated peninsula. There are many areas to lie in the sun without being crowded like you sometimes are at other resorts. We have tried many hotel chains (RIU, Iberostar, Melia, etc.) and this is the first time at Excellence. The hotel is brand new and opened up only 10 months ago. It’s a great experience and one that we hope to repeat some day.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Mediocre resort
The resort has all the basic facilities, however nothing amazing. We were not provided with drinking water bottles and were told that they ran out of bottles. The same variety of food was served everyday! The ala carte restaurants were nothing but a joke!!!!

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: It was nice
The hotel was nice. Grounds were spotless. Always seen people cleaning, painting, maintenance... People were friendly. Beach was wonderful. You could wade out to where it was deep. Lots of fish to see. Bring a mask to scuba if you can. Food was good. Very disappointed at the buffet. Never have we ever had to wait for a seat in a buffet. Dishes?? what dishes if the ones you found were clean. Food?? Where. It was hard to get any when as fast as it came out people were already lined up[... read more] for some. Breakfast we lined up at one buffet to eat then were sent to another location because there was no room. The other location was also too small to handle the number of people. Buffet by the beach was good. Jerk Chicken loved. Lots of walking. Loved the village area with the shops and show. Picked up our souvenirs from there to bring home. Prices are comparable to airport and you can barter. Room was spotless with an huge balcony. Cleaning staff did an excellent job. We were in block 17. Gorgeous view! Be prepared for noise on that side. Between the loud weddings and the booming music from the disco until 2 it was not quiet at all. Be aware you that you are close to the main road. Constant noise from the large trucks, horns, etc. No fault of the resort but if you are trying to get away from that type of noise just be aware. Be prepared for the smell of drugs. In the halls, on the balcony's, on the beach. It is there and freely used. Would we go back, if the buffets get their acts together and the price was cheaper we would consider it.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Amazing Food!
This resort has the best food of all resorts I have been to. If we needed something we asked and got it quickly. If you love the beech, this is not the resort for you. Unfortunately, the back of the resort is close to the main road, noisy! If you want to get sleep at night please request a room not facing the noisy road.

Club Ambiance: Great Staff, Rundown Resort
The staff was amazing at Club Ambiance. The food was good, but a little more variety as there was chicken every day. The bar did run out of some of it's most popular liquors. The resort needed a lot of repairs and upgrades. Lights were broken or completely missing. There was no water sport as the kayaks had holes, the peddle boat had a broken seat and peddles. Not many activities but the staff did try with the few people that was there. The pool bar was not stocked, it just a place to store poo[... read more]l floaties. The ocean gazebo bar was deteriorated and not really safe to hang out. The rooms were very clean, but the satellite TV only had 5 channels, when taking a shower the hot water was hit or miss and sometimes we lost water pressure so there was no water at all. The owner needs to invest in this resort and maybe more visitors outside of Jamaica would go.

Riu Reggae: Not what I was expecting but still OK
We thought the hotel looked nice but we were expecting to see something more spectacular for a 5 stars hotel. The sand on the beach was rough and there was a lot of sea weed.
We also booked a day trip but they made a mistake on the time for the bus pick-up and we had to re-schedule for another day because the pick-up time was earlier than what was on our bill. We waited at the lobby for an hour before a representative could be reached.
The pools were very nice and clean.

Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall: Wonderful resort and stay!
From the time we got off the plane we were excited to get our honeymoon started which was perfect because the resort was only 10-15 min away from the hotel. Unfortunately the hotel was not great with an early check in, we arrived at 11 am and waited until 2 pm to get our room. However, we were able to visit the restaurants and use the resort facilities. We stayed in the renovated Junior Suite King Ocean View (fifth floor) building 4, unbelievable view! The room was a great size for 2 people, cle[... read more]an and cool I felt really comfortable. The stand up shower was on and off warm to hot and part of the bath showerhead wasn't working, once management was aware they were kind to send someone to fix. Only complaint about the room would be when we asked for our room to be cleaned around 9:30 am and returned multiple times to the room around 11 am, and 1 pm the room wasn't clean -happened one day. Also when ordering room service the staff on the phone wasn't the nicest.
The resort was gorgeous! We stayed on the Zilara side, the bottom of the ocean was completely rocky- water shoes were a must. We spent everyday at the beach on the Ziva side, this was clear and soft sand however there were small patches of seaweed. On the Zilara side we used the main pool, this is where the main activities and entertainment were during the day- Kevon was great to get people involved and Kelly-Ann with her enthusiasm, very entertaining. It would be nice for the hotel to put more smaller cabanas that don't need to be rented- there were two on the adult side and mostly were taken up by a towel for majority of the day. Better regulations on when to use these would be helpful. We were able to use them twice during our stay- we didn't use it for an extremely long time (1-2h) then left to get food and give someone else a chance- its a nice way to cool off. There were a ton of fire pits all over the resort- this was very nice in the night to go and sit and relax after dinner.
Food....amazing! So many a la carte restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner, we couldn't choose a favourite but the best lunch spot was calypso or visiting the Jerk hut. The Zilara side could use a better breakfast buffet. We went to ChoiceZ or Horizon for breakfast every morning- options were great here. Staff at these restaurants are extremely friendly and so kind. The night we went to Fuzion was extremely busy but it was a nice dinner experience with the live cooking. DiRoza- the Italian restaurant was okay, the best thing about the restaurant is the wood oven pizza and you can take out! Petit Paris was delicious from mains to dessert! Brazilian steak was nice for a change as well, however they need more variety. They had 7 meats and only 3 were not pork based (chicken, lamb, and steak). Fish or grilled shrimp would have been a nice touch...no lobster on site! The round the clock coffee bar/desserts at the hotel is a sweet touch, we went every morning however, the cappuccinos from the restaurants seemed to be better made. Keep in mind, to get fresh coconut water it is $5 USD a coconut- crazy expensive but delicious!
Nightly entertainment was great when we arrived, lovely singing (right where you eat), fire and aqua shows, beach parties and more. However, towards the end of the stay we noticed that the entertainment went down (Wed/Thursday night) probably because the hotel was hosting many private events. We saw approx. 3 weddings happen when we stayed at the hyatt, looked beautiful however this meant that walking along the docks around sunset and near the beach was restricted.
The crowd ranges from mid 30's to 50's and older, we were one of the younger couples (25-30) we didn't mind. Overall this was a great resort, we had a lovely time staff was kind and food was amazing. We would visit again:)

Riu Negril: This Resort is amazing - we will be back!!!!
My husband and I went to this resort for our 6 year wedding anniversary and we are so glad we did. It was amazing!!!
Our travel agent recommend this resort and she picked the most perfect resort for us.
The food was soooo good - I think I gained weight on vacation. We tried the Asian restaurant and the steakhouse ( I had a rib eye steak in Jamaica - yum). The buffet has so much food and all of it was so good too so we liked going there more. The jerk chicken BBQ hut is a great idea. We ate lot[... read more]s of Jamaican patties ( beef, curry chicken and vegetable ones)
We liked that the resort was smaller and everything was right on the ocean and close to each other.
OMG the beach - WOW- the resort was in a bay so the water for the most part was very calm - you could walk around in water and bottom. We saw a large star fish, crabs, sting ray. So cool !! Plus every once in a while you have a local come and sing some Jamaican tunes with their guitar - not loud - but lovely to listen to while relaxing on the beach. People were singing along and dancing.
The atmosphere is so great. They have the "fun" team who will keep you entertained all week. you can join on activities or you can watch - activities were on the beach and at pool.
The beach party Monday night was so fun!!! Local Reggae music mixed with top hits made everyone have a great time - bar down there on beach too made it so easy to have a blast.
THE PEOPLE - they are what made this resort and Jamaica so amazing for us. They are so friendly. Laugh with you - joke around - sing - they truly care that you are having a good time. A few people that stuck out to us was Claudia in the sports bar, Lamar the taxi driver, and Famous the entertainer.
Thanks RIU Negril for an amazing vacation - we will be back to see you all soon. This time we are sharing this amazing experience with family and friends.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Beautiful Resort!
Resort is amazing, clean and spacious rooms, beautiful grounds. Cannot fault the food or drinks, friendly staff for the most. We were booked on the Grand side Golden club but were informed that due to a 'promotion' that we had been upgraded to luxury. We were not given a choice and felt a little upset due to already paying for an ocean view with privaliges . We did not have a fast check in as promised due to the changes and were shown to a 'garden view' room with a construction site and highway [... read more]for our view. Needless to say we asked to be given a different room. We were accommodated and was given a second floor room with ocean /sea view. Everything after the initial mishap was pretty near perfect and we enjoyed the rest of our vacation immensely. We would recommend this resort and do plan to return in the future.

Sandals Ochi Beach Resort: Beautiful property...poor service
The beach is incredible. Clear blue water with a reef close by so you see a ton of colourful fish just standing in the water.

Catalonia Montego Bay: First time to Jamaica
Family of 4, kids are 15 and 17.
Rooms: we were upgraded on arrival to a suite. Meaning there was a very worn pull out couch in the room. Building1, close to everything, beautiful view of ocean. We were on the back of the building so no noise complaints. Room 1409. Only real downfall was that the mini fridge had nothing in it,not even water! The bathroom was very dated and small but we didn’t go
To Jamaica to spend a week in the bathroom :)
Beach: small but cozy. Hard to find a [... read more]chair most days unless you were there by 7:30am. Usually by 8:00 the chairs were gone. I recommend taking your own towel and a large clothespin to reserve your chair. The island was the trademark beauty of this resort. Make sure you bring snorkel gear to look at all the beautiful fish. Going a little further out from the island, there is a coral reef, make sure you go! Beach is clean and beautiful.
Bars: always a line up and usually only one person working there. Nobody enjoys standing on the hot stones waiting 20 minutes for a drink. Not many smiles from bartenders unless they see your tip.
Buffet: limited choices compared to other resorts but we always found something delicious to eat. Same lineups at breakfast for omelets. Could use more than one person cooking.
Resort: overall a 4/5. Semi clean hotel. Always piles of laundry in the hallways from housekeeping. Our housekeeper only showed up 5/7 days. Weather was beautiful. Rained a few short bursts, usually at night. The casino is a joke, just some video lotto machines. The gift shop is nice and prices are decent. Long waits at the snack hut for ice cream and nachos.
Pool: only one pool for families. It’s nice but sometimes a little too crowded. We preferred the ocean. One small adult pool with swim up bar at far end of the resort. Not really worth the walk up there if you have kids.
Positives: beautiful view. Palm trees, sunsets, teal ocean, scuba diving, food, comfy beds, weather. All perfect!
Negatives: less than enthusiastic staff, outdated (less than clean) bathrooms, no stocked mini bar, only 1pool, lineups for drinks,
Excursions: you can barter these too! We paid $55 per person for an $80 excursion. We did a river tubing trip down an old slave plantation (we recommend it) by Chukka tours. Also, a day trip through the city, slums, primary school, etc. Expensive but worth it!
Jamaica in general has many pushy sales people. We felt harassed by vendors across the road from the resort. I would recommend taking the shuttle to rose hall shopping, it’s free and safe!
Margaritaville has a free shuttle from the resort everyday. Be prepared to pay $15+ for each drink if you go. It’s just a bar with a water slide and some water inflatables in the ocean. I would pass on this trip in the future.
I would visit this resort again, but only at a much better price than we paid.

Sandals Dunn's River: Great trip!
We overall enjoyed our stay at Jewell's Dunn River. The food was amazinly delishes and they worked hard to prepare multiple outdoor supper venues throughout the week, all of which were very tasty. The drinks were very good. The grounds are well kept and great.
Although small, the beach was good. The pools and hot tub was good too.
We booked an oceanview and the first room they put us in was on the 2nd floor and overlooked all the piping and stuff from the other building. It was a terrible vi[... read more]ew and a garden view would have been much better. They did move us the next day and the next room had a great view.
The staff were all hard working but lots were not overly friendly. (a couple were amazing tho)
Where I found it lacked the most was entertainment at night.... the disco started at 11 pm, which, after a day of drinks and sun was too late for us. Most nights there was no entertainment around. When there was, it was in this room with a stage, and had like 20 people in there. Lots of the entertainment involved the crowd, which I didnt love. Some people got dragged to participate, just to be made fun of by the entertainment staff. Didnt care for it.
Also, the bus ride from the airport to the resort took a whole 3 hours.

Grand Decameron Montego Beach: Great stay
Hotel was clean and well maintained. I really disliked how you don’t have a fridge nor free safe or wifi. But overall great stay staff very friendly. Really loves “Bar Bar†Alisha at the swim up bar she was amazing. The food was decent but wished they had more variations. Great place for a relaxed vacation and the shows were excellent.
