The resort was clean, the staff were amazing.
Beach was cleaned of seaweed everyday, lots of chairs on the beach but no shade.
The pools were clean and the water temperature was perfect. Lots of chairs and shade.
The best part of the resort was the staff! 10/10
My only complaint was the food, I am not a fussy eater and was able to find something to eat every day but soon got tired of the same thing.
It was always chicken nuggets, burger, fries, potatoes ect.. I would like to have seen a lit[... read more]tle more Mexican style or at least a little change sometimes.
City life is just a 10 minute walk, lots of restaurants and things to do off the resort as well.

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Viva Maya - My Review
My boyfriend and I stayed at this resort from Match 16-23, 2025. I would rate our experience 9/10. This is a very nice, well kempt resort. I will start with our booking process with Tripcentral. I will say I used other websites to research where we wanted to stay as they had more information on the resorts but TripC has the best prices and easy to book through. It was our first time booking through it and will definitely use it again.
Now the resort. Our check-in process was fast and we had [... read more]no line up. The bellhop was very informative of the resort and very friendly! The resort is very moderate in size. You will get your steps in!
Room - We are not picky guests when it comes to rooms as we are usually only in there to get ready and sleep. Our room was nice, beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. We had no issues with water pressure/heat.
I will say that they do not stock the fridges with water/pop/beer. They are trying to conserve and reduce the use of plastic. Conveniently, there are filtered water fountains you can use halfway through every hallway. They have jugs you can put the water into and leave in your room. Balconies are small in the normal rooms.
Pools - There are 3 pools but 5 if you aren’t seeing them as attached. We noticed that the adults only pool/area was pretty chill but the water was a little merky so we opted to not go in there but there was a bar and it wasn’t busy at all. The main pool area was a decent size. We didn’t have too hard of a time finding chairs when we wanted to be by the pool but they do get taken quickly. I feel like there could've been more lounge chairs but it wasn’t a big deal if we couldn’t find one. There’s plenty on the beautiful beach! The pools itself weren’t very busy and the swim up bar rarely had a bartender but only because not a lot of people were in the water, at least while at our stay. The main pool water was a bit merky as well so we kept our heads above water. They were cleaning the pools during our stay which was nice to see and it didn’t take too long for them to be up and running again. The beach was absolutely amazing! We were able to be in the water every day that we were there. The last 3 days, there was a lot of waves and wind so the water didn’t look turquoise but it did the first 4 days! The resort did the best out of all of the ones along the coast, of cleaning the seaweed, by far. There’s lots of lounge chairs out there so you won’t be without!
Food - The buffet was pretty good! Had a decent amount of options for breakfast/lunch/supper. Some foods were repetitive throughout lunch/supper. Obviously, some foods were a hit and a miss but that is to be expected. You will find something you like and if not, the fruit was absolutely delicious. I can’t say enough good things about the fruits they had out. Perfectly ripe. I’ve never had better fruits at a resort. We easily could've lived off those our whole trip! And the fruit juices. Amazing! So fresh and not too sweet. The deserts were not the best. At the buffet, you can get your own drinks along with a bucket of ice that’s always filled. Those ice buckets are very convenient to fill up your own mugs with! The servers were fine and friendly enough.
We ate at the Mediterranean, Fusion and Mexican restaurants and they were soo good! The service at all 3 places were awesome the food was amazing, especially at the Fusion restaurant. We had the best steak we may have ever had. Unreal. We were shocked by how great the food was at this resort. Didn’t feel unsafe to eat anything there. Didn’t get sick from the food at all. We enjoyed Cafe Maya! The drinks in there were good and nice to try different things than what’s at the bars. They had the perfect foods for a nice lunch or little snacks. We were happy to see that there was zero bugs/flies/bees by the bars. It was all very very clean.
We found the lobby made the best drinks! Line ups are to be expected but you just have to wait them out or just stand in line. You won’t be waiting that long but again, it’s to be expected at any resort. The snack bar. HELL YES! Amazing fries lol! They always had good food out (except the hot dogs) Late night snacks was our thing and it mainly hit the spot! There’s always a cook there so it’s not just old food sitting there. They make fresh woodfire pizzas and salty French fries! They are open until 6am so you won’t be without food at this resort.
The big bar by the pool was our main drinking hub. Bartenders were good, quick and efficient!
Entertainment- Compared to other resorts we have been too, their shows are really good! The entertainment area was pretty big with lots of seating and after the show is done (around 1030) there’s more things happening at the lobby area of the resort until midnight so that was nice that there’s something to do until then!
All in all, I would highly recommend anyone to go to Viva Maya! Our experience was exactly what we could’ve hoped for. It was very clean, good food and plenty entertainment in the night! We noticed that the patrons here were mainly Spanish/French speaking. So, we didn’t get to converse with many people during our stay until the last night and we found a a couple Canadians from Ottawa and Nova Scotia so we got to socialize for about 20 mins haha!

El Dorado Seaside Palms: Great Resort!
This was my second time at this resort and it is excellent! The grounds are beautifully kept, food is delicious, employees are so friendly, and there are lots of activities to do during the day. There are not the typical “resort shows” at night, but this was not a big deal for me. The only downside is the distance from the airport (one hour and a half direct, longer if you are stopping at other resorts), but otherwise, I would definitely return for a third time!

Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: Great resort except for the spring break groups and additional cost for lounge chairs/cabanas
Food was excellent/top notch! Lot's of restaurants and easy to book thru the app. The service in the a la carte was great but very slow in the buffet>
Drinks - house wine was great. Other options were good but not a lot of premium alcohol options unless you paid extra to be in the "Star" class room.
Room - pretty spacious but nothing special considering this is 5 star and we were in the Adult Scene area. Pillows could have been better and a bath tub in the bathroom. The resort looks a bit [... read more]worn out considering its fairly new.
Grounds - clean and well laid out but not a lot of security patrolling especially at night.
Adult Scene - the minimum age should be 25. There were so many 18-20 yrs old on spring break partying until 3 am, being loud and obnoxious at the pool. It seem the hotel really advertised the resort to this crowd which I was not aware at time of booking.
Beach - very nice, but it needs to be cleaned up and raked more. Additional chairs and umbrellas are also needed. There should also be a food option right on the beach and more waiters.
Pools - all pools on both family and adult side were packed! It was impossible to find a chair or shade even though there is plenty of space for more. It seems the resort wanted people to rent the cabanas or bali beds at 300 and 150 US respectively. That is way to much when we already paid 5,000 for two people. The bali beds at least should be free and some patrolling by hotel staff to ensure people aren't leaving their towels for the entire day and not using the beds/chairs.
Entertainment - hit and miss but we don't care too much about it.
Resort credits - these were really coupons to get you to spend more money. False advertisement in my opinion.
Overall the resort was nice but not staffed for spring break. Also the resort should disclose on their website that they accept spring break groups as this is determining factors for some, like us. We are in our 40s and there many that age or older who did not enjoy their stay as much or could not sleep.

Playa Mazatlan: False Advertising
Hotel advertises 10 restaurants, but what it actually is is two restaurants, with the same food served in other locations on site, and a third eating area where they swap out the restaurant sign daily to "Brazilian bbq" or "seafood". Serving actual Hostess cupcakes and other desserts you can buy at the gas station.
Hotel advertises a swim-up bar but it's shut down and locked up.
Hotel advertises several pools, but they only heat 3 and the rest are too cold to use unless it's the hottest [... read more]time of year.
There is no gelato bar as advertised, there's a guy in the dining room with 3 tubs of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream.
Entertainment at all inclusives is never expected to be great, but this one is well below average. Bingo nights and music recordings with on stage musicians pretending to play instruments.
Pros? Hotel was clean and service good. No mark up on exchanging $ for pesos at the front desk. Best possible location right in front of beach and access to shopping and restaurants outside hotel.
Just a lot of purposeful deception about what they have vs what's actually there and cheaping out wherever possible. If you don't care about food or pools it's a great resort with fantastic beachfront access.

Crown Paradise Club Cancun: Family resort
Big hotel. Lots for families to do. Great food, clean resort. Beach was good however no shade and very limited chairs and shade areas. Beach was quite steep to walk on. Pool areas also was difficult to get chairs. Reservations for supper was hard to get. Overall a good resort. Next to no partiers or roudy people which we liked. Vendors came regularly to resort. Watch the waves…lost two pairs of glasses. Had a beautiful view from our patio…enjoyed relaxing there.

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Great resort
Stayed for a week in March. The resort had beautiful grounds with a variety of wildlife roaming around. The food was really good, we preferred the buffets over the a la cartes. The rooms were basic but had nice, updated bathrooms. All the rooms had a terrace or balcony. You actually enter the room through the balcony/terrace door, there is no other door.
You have to get up early if you want a chair in the shade, the resort definitely could use more shaded areas (as with most resorts). Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: A very big resort with lots to offer
Rooms were great and kept clean. There were a variety of restaurants that meets everyone's food tastes and needs. The waiting staff were great in the restaurants. But there were timing issues with the arrival of dishes. ie many times appetizers would be served at the same time as the main dishes. Coffee or tea are not offered after meals in the main restaurant but was available in the main buffet restaurant.
Making reservations for the ala-cart restaurants when you first get there was a [... read more]challenge. They showed booked solid for the week. We contacted the concierge and once we tipped him $20.00 US, he (surprise) who was able to get the times we wanted for our dinner reservations. When you got into the restaurant there were always empty tables no matter what time slot you were booked into.
This also carried over to the pool bar service. It was generally good as long as you constantly tipped or if you were a woman in a bathing suit. Service slacked if you did not tip. That was frustrating as it is suppose to be all inclusive.
But on the whole it was a good experience and the weather was perfect.

Catalonia Yucatan: Good and bad
To begin, having stayed in numerous all inclusive resorts, we have Never not been able to enjoy a Mamosa with our breakfast. The late bar opening time of 11:00am is unheard of in all of our experiences. That coupled with early closures as well, was somewhat disheartening to say the least.
The Catalonia was advertised as a resort with white sandy Beach, which was a real draw for us, only to meet with unaccessible waters, due to immense amounts of seaweed, that was worked tirelessly to rid of, [... read more]to no avail. Understandable, that this is an issue here, but it should not be promoted otherwise.
It is stated that pool chairs cannot be reserved, but it was very difficult to get one, as they were always taken with towels on them very early in the morning. We usually ended up sitting with our feet in the pool.
The food was the biggest disappointment of all. I actually, came down with what was suspected of food poison and lost a day and a half in my room. The buffet was redundant, and the two restaurants were an even bigger disappointment.
It would have been nice to have access to an activity board as we found a lack of entertainment and music especially.
All that said, we did appreciate the well manicured and beautifully kept grounds at this resort.

Planet Hollywood Adult Scene Cancun by Royalton: AVOID - Adult side
If you're looking for an adults only 5 star and have been to other adults only resort, this place ISN'T for you!!!
Upon our early 5am arrival (late departure), we were checked in and left there to figure out where to go. We were told it's over there on the left, I cannot help you. No one was available and we had to walk around in the dark trying to find our building with our luggage.
Beach and the pool are beautiful. However you'll need to get up at 6am each day to reserve a lounger c[... read more]hair, both at the pool and at the beach. There are simply not enough chairs for everyone or umbrella's should you require shade. Good luck finding a spot.
Although we paid to stay on the adult side, the beach is a free for all. So if you are looking to relax and enjoy listening to the sound of the ocean, reading a book or taking a snooze, there are children everywhere. This is not controlled so expect it to be loud and maybe be hit by a ball while you're sleeping.
In terms of service / concierge / help desk... I don't know how many times we were told "I cannot help you". For example, when the hotel app wasn't working and we were trying to book the a la carte restaurant. Seeking assistance from the concierge was pointless. Their job is to tell you how to do it yourself on the app... well when the app isn't working who can help? What if you don't have the space on your phone to download the app? Whatever the scenario, there was zero customer service.
The food buffet was expansive, but beware of the meat sitting there for hours and hours, seafood not on ice beds, depleted salad bar... not to worry there's at least 4-6 different types of french fries, pizzas and all kinds of junk food.
The a la carte restaurants are cafeteria style. Very loud, no table cloths and the food is not at the level of the adults only price we paid to stay here. Fill up on a big breakfast because you don't know what the rest of the day will look like in terms of your next meal.
You will be refused premium liquor/spirits if you have not paid for the star category. The majority of the drinks barely have any booze. You can get house wine for free but must pay a hefty American price for a good quality wine, so the conversion in CAD was not worth the food accompaniment.
Our Directors room was beautiful, just like the photos. However, we had brown water all week coming out of the faucets, tub, leaking toilet and shower. Def. not a 5 star experience. We were told this is normal upon reporting this.
This absolutely does not cut it as a 5 star. Had this been a deal of a trip, perhaps some of these things could have been overlooked. This resort might impress the novice travellers, but this was not at the expected level or the price we paid. Sadly it's a BIG no for the Adult Scene, pass and select another.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Very nice resort
This was our 4 stay at this resort. Resort is a little dated but kept very clean. The food selection is very good, you can always find something to eat at one of the two buffets or many snack bars. We were able to visit all five restaurants and found the food to be good at them also. The staff was very friendly and always acknowledging you even as you walked through the resort. Good value for money we spent.
Couple of things I think could use changed are. The bikes, they are old and have not [... read more]seen maintenance probably since they arrived. The second thing that needs to be addressed is the pool and beach chair reserving.

Riu Emerald Bay: Nice place. 2nd time here. Would recommend
As this was my second time here, the first being a year ago at the same time, I knew pretty much what to expect. As with most Riu hotels, of which I've stated at many, you can expect a clean environment, from the common areas, to the dining rooms, and most of all in your spacious hotel room. The staff here is very good, upbeat, eager to please, and the rooms are always cleaned earlier in the day. The beach is great, long and expansive, with a nice little commercial area a 10 minute walk on the b[... read more]each from the hotel. There you can eat, drink, browse various shopping options, and even visit a local Oxxo. There are 2 bars, both gave poor acoustics, so it can get very loud, and very easily. In one of the 2 bars, the non sports bar, there were the same 2 bartenders who were there from last year. They are a true comedy team, and their attitudes are infectious and welcome. Regarding the food, it's pretty good, but not great, but you will be fine. The location of this hotel is more isolated than say in the Golden Zone, but for us, that's MUCH preferred, as it's quiet and peaceful, as opposed to the bustle of the Golden Zone. That's just not our thing, maybe it's yours though. Overall, the Riu Emerald Bay is a very nice choice to say in Mazatlan

From the moment we arrived I knew this was going to be a good stay. The hotel staff were friendly. The people seemed friendly. I really enjoyed all the wildlife. I enjoyed the beach. We had fun in the pools. As for booking restaurants we had a little help from people at home who were two hours behind us so we didn't have to stay up till midnight. And we ate at the buffets and at some à la carts and all in all it was good. .

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Just OK
Just got back from one week at Platinum Yucatan, it was OK - maybe a 3.5 star in my opinion - but a decent price overall in comparison to other adults only resorts.
- swim up room in first building is worth it, as you are not near the other pools that can get a bit loud (especially the party pool that is in front of building 2/3??
- food was good, but not great - their understanding of gluten allergy was weak, and so was the food selection at restaurants (buffet was often the safest choice[... read more])
- beach was thin and the water was rocky with lots of seaweed - but staff work hard to try and clean it up .. still had a beautiful breeze, but the diesel tractor cleaning up the beach all day caused us to use our swim up room 90% of the trip
- staff stop by the swim up rooms to check if you want a drink
- beds ok; pillows sucked
- the resort needed a lot of maintenance - very worn down (i.e. the bathroom mirrors were event eroded)
- at check out, the system was down and we had to find enough cash to pay for expenses >$500 in spa expenses .. when asked to email us our receipt they said they couldnt (this was sketchy). I was provided an email to get in touch with someone afterwards and ofcourse no one has responded...
- great evening live music in the lobby bar
- mixed drinks were watered down and served in the cheapest recyclable cups I have ever had at a resort
- check in was very brief, which was nice, but didn't really seem like the cared much ... usually there is a lot more enthusiasm upon arrival to a resort (even if they are pretending lol). They just handed us some crumpled cheap photocopied papers and we kinda had to get our own bearings of the resort.
At the end of the day, Mexico is still my fav place to be and we had a beautiful pool with beautiful weather - which is all we needed.... but still, its hard to not expect a little more of a 5 star experience for a adults only resort that cost us around 11K for 4 people.
