We enjoyed the resort for the most part. The junior suite was beautiful, large shower, clean and very roomy. Stone work and bamboo was stunning. Grounds were excellently maintained, and the landscape and views were breathtaking.
Service was poor, hit and miss if you got any. A lot of major hills to climb to access the resort, so you used the shuttle mostly. The serenity pools, and the natural spring pool was beautiful. Loved the spa, and Jacuzzi and steam.

Crown Paradise Golden: Disappointment
Would like to say that we were disappointed in the resort. First of all . It was our anniversary , Had made mention of this to our travel agent, Nothing was done at all. No acknowledgment from management at the resort. We normally celebrate our anniversary in mexico. At various resorts. This was the first time that we were not acknowledged. It wouldn't of cost the hotel any more or less to acknowledge with a special dinner. Sorry Jenn, This never should of happened. Next they're we[... read more]re not a lot of resort nitetime activities. Yes I understand that September is a slow time, But come on they could of done more for people to be involved instead of walking and pacing the resort. Food was not good. Same things everyday. We chose to go out and eat outside of the resort, I think that all inclusive is not the best if you dont drink. Very disappointed in the time that we left for departure pickup at the hotel. We were out at noon from the room when they could of left us until at least 2:00 pm. I will never take a flight again that is not direct to and from. Its too long of a day.

Riu Flamingos: Review: RIU JALISCO RESORT
Grounds(outside): garden is well kept. Nice palms and other local flora.
Grounds(inside): public spaces often had garbage flying about. Was surprised by this as it was not too busy. Lots of wet surfaces even when it hadn't rained.
Pool: two pools, both shaped like a fidget spinner. One for kids. Other has swim up bar. Filters are not working well so there are lots of bugs in the water. Too much chlorine. Mildew. Needs more frequent cleanup. Loud dance music is not for me and you can't [... read more]get away from it. Needs more shaded areas.
Service: attentive and quick. Often their English skills were inadequate, but guests were 80% Mexican so I think that's appropriate.
Food: excellent quality and selection. There were no a la carte restaurants during the week we were there despite proclamations otherwise. Annoying. 4 restaurants are actually just 4 buffets.
The schedules posted on the door do not match the schedule given upon arrival and nobody cares. Ended up waiting for the doors to open in front of the main dining hall with a dozen other guests. Staff was unhelpful when we asked what time the restaurant would open. Nobody on staff knew or cared about schedules. Universal answer was "5 minutes" which had no bearing on reality. 25 minutes we all waited. Annoying.
Housekeeping: fast and frequent. Free mini bar was always stocked.
Room: standard size and came with the usual resort stuff. No desk unfortunately.
Building: was surprised to see cracks in the walls. Tropical mildew from lack of air flow. Surprised at absent ceiling fans present everywhere else in Mexico.
Transfer: typical annoying charter bus ride. Selling trapped guests on excursions, phone service, and tipping the driver. All on PA system with the volume turned way too high. It's included so can't complain too much.
Entertainment: typical cheerleader-style activities where they try to get you involved and pumped up. People seemed not to mind the dance music blasting through the pool area all day, but it's not for me.
Also, there were musical shows every evening. Our room faced inwards to the courtyard and reverberated with thumping base from these shows every evening until 11pm. Not cool.
I feel that the RIU JALISCO is a decent resort but you should be prepared for loud music and flexible schedules. Good food and decent Beach. Proximity to town is 25 minute taxi ride. There were a lot of kids and infants. Lots. Adorable and fun, but messy and loud.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: A little tired
The grounds are beautiful but the rooms are looking a little tired. My bed had a definite sag in the mattress. Although their dedication to the environment with their no straw policy is admirable it doesn't really work for frozen drinks. Great service though but we did have some difficulties getting the amenities we ordered in our room after several moves - and a lost day - they finally got it right. Great resort for handicapped or limited mobility individuals.

Riu Flamingos: Great vacation spot for families!
I was quite nervous heading here after reading some of the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised!
Overall the resort is well kept and clean. The grounds are kept in incredible shape. The rooms could use a little updating. I was definitely not thrilled by the open concept bathroom; neither was my 14 yr old son I might add! A door would have been a wonderful addition. Also, in the family rooms, I think a coffee maker would be much more useful than the copious amounts of alcohol. The rooms were[... read more] kept very clean, I wish I had caught our maids name, as she was wonderful! First time we haven't felt like we must lock everything in the safe. I left jewelry/electronics out without an issue.
The food was definitely a high point for us. My kids and I have celiac disease, which requires us to eat a gluten free diet. My partner has many other food sensitivities. Chef Jose and Antonio made sure we always had many many options, and I can't express enough thanks! The waitstaff was always very friendly at dinner. Danny took great care of us, as well as a couple other servers. Unfortunately they were not so friendly at breakfast, often leaving us to find our own coffee, and other drinks, condiments, etc.
The pools and beach were kept pretty clean. Unfortunately the beach was not what we were expecting, but I think we've become beach snobs along our travels. The water is not clear, sand is not soft.
I was surprised by the hotel not accepting American money. Not that I blame them with the current relations with the US, but it was a surprise. If you're traveling from Canada, you do not need to exchange for American as everyone used to! They will exchange Canadian.
We did the polaris razor excursion. It was a lot of fun, but they gouge tourists, and don't supply transportation to the excursion. Apparently something to do with a taxi union. Had I not already told the kids we'd be doing this excursion, I would have waited a until we went to a another destination. I wouldn't recommend doing excursions here, although fun, not worth the money or stress of cabbing.
There were a lot of locals at this resort, something I've never experienced before. Definitely made things a little louder, and not as English friendly- which I know, I'm in a Spanish speaking country, I should expect there to be a language barrier, it's just never been to this extreme throughout our many travels.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Not bad
Grounds were nice and clean but we didn't quite like the layout of the hotel. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurants were pretty good for all inclusive - buffets...could be better. The rooms were clean and they left a free bottle of water every day in the room. Safes cost extra money if you needed it. There were no mini fridges in the rooms :( they did have adults only swimming pools for those that wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the families with kids.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Given size - this is a fairly intimate place to stay. Great service and very clean
Family was happy with this resort and decided to celebrate our daughter's birthday in Mexico. Very Clean place with some five star service features. Lovely to have staff visit pool/beach side and ask if you want a fresh towel or a drink. We had an amazing experience with the medical clinic on site - great professionals who took incredible care of me. We were not impressed though that they did not do anything to celebrate our birthday gal as she turn 15 during vacation.we had also attended an Ib[... read more]erostar in the Mayan Rivera for our other daughter a year earlier who really celebrated her including decorating the room. Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta: Near Perfection in Puerto Vallarta if You're Not a Foodie
No review complete without mentioning the great service and information received from Melanie M. at TripCentral. Despite a few concerns about rain and cloudy weather we selected mid-August for our week-long stay at the Hyatt Ziva, Puerto Vallarta to avoid the crowds. It was the right decision as the pool and beach areas, restaurants, etc. were crowd-free and the weather was perfect. There was only one day of rain and it was in the late evening. The weather reports pre-departure were not accurate[... read more] so don't let that deter you. On the positive side, the resort should definitely receive a solid four stars and the magnificent beach deserves five stars. In Mexico, they are not allowed to have private beaches but the Hyatt is situated between rock formations which prevent access from either side, rendering the beach virtually private. The few beach vendors are all resort-approved and carry a license saying so. If you are not interested, you only need say it once and they respect it and walk away. The resort property is really lovely and the grounds manicured and maintained to perfection. We chose to upgrade our room to a Club Suite Oceanfront View which was spacious and well-appointed and worth every penny of the reasonable cost. The staff are top-flight - extremely polite and service-oriented. Even though an all-inclusive, tips for poolside drinks to housekeeping are greatly appreciated. We were really surprised at guests who were at the pool all day, ordering dozens of drinks, who didn't even have the common courtesy to tip every so often. I'm glad to say they weren't from Canada. We stayed near the adult-only infinity pool which was lovely. On the negative side, it seems to be a chronic problem with resorts to have loud music blaring from speakers but the sound was a little less by the adult-only pool and seemed concentrated at the other infinity pools for families, the swim up bar, etc.. At least they didn't make announcements of activities every hour upon the hour. In the tower we stayed at, there was construction noise that started at 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. which we didn't expect and would have appreciated knowing about as the sound was loud in our rooms and around the pool area. It might have been a booking deal breaker had we known. But our biggest complaint is with the quality of the food. If you are a foodie, this is not the place for you. The buffet, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, had limited selection and suffered from everything being overcooked with just a few exceptions. The themed buffet dinners, e.g. Mexican, Caribbean, Italian, were uninspired. The hamburger and club sandwich from room service were among the few edible items on that menu. The steak restaurant Blaze, Mexican, Italian and Asian restaurants were a bit better quality than the buffet but each of these restaurants only deserves three-stars at best. If you want lobster, I was told it would cost an additional $50 USD. We think this resort could be an A to A+ if it took a long, hard look at its food service and made some serious improvements. For now, it's a great resort to select if you want to stick to a diet and not be tempted by the food.

Hacienda Buenaventura Hotel and Mexican Charm: Comy & Affordable

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Beautiful Colourful Resort that needs major improvements
None of the rooms to my knowledge have access to WiFi, WiFi is only accessible from the reception areas and the lounge which makes it quite inconvenient if all you want to do is check emails rather than be able to do so from the comfort of my air conditioned room, i have to go all the way to an area with WiFi. The rooms are fine, spacious good beds but the water pressure in my shower would come and go and while i notified staff and was told it would be looked into nothing happened. Las Palmas by the Sea: Run
Worst all inclusive ever, food was awful, locals weren't even eating it, the crows were though..they sat on top of the salad and ate away...rinsed glasses in tap water and restacked them, didn't even wash them. We were scared to even have a cup of coffee. Trip central and air transat should both be so embarrassed to be a part of this place...however, air transat rep was awesome...we were moved to The Marival, a five star not a one star..and it was fabulous. Don't go to las palmas, ever....

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Great cost effective Vacation!
The hotel was very well kept, and the employees worked tirelessly to keep it so. The rooms were clean and bug free, the A/C worked great, and showers had plenty of hot water. The only bad thing is you have to pay to use the safe which was odd that it wasn't included.
The food was very good, we did not get sick at all. Only downside is that sometimes there was a lack of variety between buffets, and it was very frustrating to have to get up at 0730 to make reservations for a la carte meals. Tha[... read more]t being said the a la carte restaurants were very good, we especially enjoyed the piccolo and mexicano.
Pools were very nice they did sometimes have plants and other debris in the pools, however we did have multiple thunder storms when we stayed. The adult pool was mostly very quiet and relaxing save for the odd group of roudy 18/19 year olds.
The events on site were enough to keep us busy with activities when we wanted to be, and the nightly shows were lots of fun even though they were mostly in Spanish.
We never used the onsite spa as it was 550 pesos for a massage, and you could get one along the beach for 200.
Lots of amenities close by outside the resort: an OXXO and Chedraui just up the hill had everything you could ever want. Also the flea market in Bucerias is only a 25min walk along the beach, and a lot of fun if your looking for souvenirs.
Overall this trip was great value and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
