The grounds are well keot and everything is within close proximity. The rooms are spacious and clean. The pools and beach are great and the service is good. I have been at this resort 4 times now and I keep going back because it is a great place!!

Grand Sunset Princess: Big & Busy Resort
Overall decent resort. It’s massive and gets busy on change over days. Lots of pools, bars, and activities for everyone. The food and a la carts get the job done. There were lots of free hand pours for drinks. The downsides are the coatis who are cute for a day and then get annoying. We also encountered alot of cockroaches one day outside our room. The staff must have sprayed and never told us. Never really saw them afterwards though.

Allegro Playacar: Amazing Resort
Beautiful garden with Cenote like jungle holes right in there ( one just at the entrance to the parking lot, another behind the Theatre).
Beautiful beach with a view of Cozumel Island in a distance. Nice clean pool, comfortable rooms in a cabana like setting ( not a 15 story building!!)
Close to downtown Playa Carmen and ferry. Outstanding friendly staff, delicious food offered at the buffet all day long ( we haven’t been to a la carte restaurant- sign in line was too long).
We took a tour to[... read more] Chichtzen Itza ($150 a person from TransAt representative at the hotel- highly recommended, and went to Cozumel on our own- taxi $10 one way + $ 35/ person for return ferry.
PlayaCar feels very safe but because of its hightened security ( entrance gates, police and military presence ) we’ve got a (perhaps misleading feeling) that anywhere outside is not safe!
We have had a very nice time!

The Fives Beach Hotel and Residences Playa Del Carmen: Poor Experience - go elsewhere!
We visited the Fives in fall of 2019 and again in winter of 2024. I understand that there was an ownership change during that time and the resort and specifically its services and experiences have declined in those four years. The service is, at best, inconsistent. Sometimes you will get enough bath towels and a hand towel; sometimes you'll get a couple bath towels and a bath mat to use as a hand towel. Sometimes the beds are made correctly, sometimes they are reversed (fuzzy blanket beneath[... read more] a flat sheet??) Even if you find an ambassador moments after you arrive, you likely won't get reservations. We were only able to go to al a cartes twice during our 7 days. The buffet is very substandard compared to other resorts in a similar price range in the same area of Mexico. Some of the staff is incredible (shoutout to Patricio at the bar near the beach taco/pizza stands!) and other staff aren't enjoying their jobs (and will share with you their experiences which is heartening). We booked a special evening at Casa de Rosa (a Christmas gift to our group) and were very very disappointed. It is advertised as an authentic Mexican cooking class. We put on aprons, pressed a single tortilla each, then removed our aprons and sat down to a hastily served and cold dinner. We weren't even told what we were eating. Only a 50% discount was provided upon sharing out disappointment and lack of services provided as indicated. There is a lack of activities and options for things to do at this resort as well. There are a lot of other options, so skip on by this place and go for another location.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: For Mexico it was okay
No map, no menu, no drink menu, couldn't find entertainment listings..everything was a QR code and took too much time. Couldn't locate air canada rep, beach was dissaponting. Got scammed by "no we don't have timeshare" on the resort, we just want 10 min of your time; 2 hours later if being passed around to this person and that to find out 10k to buy in to some resort deal. Wasted my time although I was upfront and said don't drag me around, give me the bottom line so I can enjoy my vacation. [... read more]Basically with the 1.5 hour drive from airport to resort and getting sucked in to the drag around we lost a day. Paying as much as we did, on limited vacation time, I was truly dissatisfied. On a good note, the food was great, rooms were clean, and service was wonderful by staff. I've been to many Bahia's and I'm going to stick with Punta Cana, less travel, never got stocked by "not time share" scams and had access to paper formats if needed, could look at an actual menu at the bar and restaurant and was always informed of activities. I overheard others talking, and they thought it was the most boring resort yet, I suspect they couldn't figure out what was going on either. Won't be back to that resort, but will continue to enjoy Bahia in other areas so long as there is something I can read in front of me and not have to use my internet and find QR codes.

Grand Riviera Princess: Been to better
The resort was well manicured, room was clean, check in was simple! Had a few issues in our room with a clogged drain and a not working safe but once we called the front desk they were very prompt at fixing it! The buffet was decent as long as you go early! Mamma Mia miso and lefluer were really good! The grill and taco bar near the pool area were great! The rest were sub par! Service at the bars was typically very slow not enough bar tenders for this size resort! Unfortunately the beach was[... read more] not my favourite! I’ve been to much better! The water is murky and very rocky! And when the waves pick up all the sea garbage comes up on shore! Too much seaweed for my liking, most resorts seem a little better at keeping this at bay! Did enjoy all the wild life around! Didn’t care for them asking me to upgrade to premium wrist bands upon check in, was told had to do it now or it will go up tomorrow! Thankfully I did not as it’s not needed, not that I would have when it was presented the way it was, don’t like being felt pressured right away! Didn’t care for the way this was suppose to be all inclusive yet every time we turned around they want to charge for this or that extra! Ex, ice cream shop, kids water park, the one and only restaurant on the beach! Unfortunately ran into more than a couple people who complained about being drugged at the same pool bar! we believe two people that we were with also fell victim to this as they had complete black outs that didn’t make sense! Unfortunately 5 out of our group of 10 got sick either while thier upon returning home or a combination of both!

Ocean Maya Royale: Great resort even if a bit noisy.
Staff very friendly, property kept very nicely. Music very loud by 'party' pool all afternoon and very loud in front lobby area in the evening. Try to get a room as far away as possible from those two if you want some peace and quiet.
Also, do not drink the water at restaurants, ice or crushed ice. We were very sick for 24 hours.
Be careful booking up trips through agent at hotel. We booked up Tulum, snorkeling with turtles and cave trip, and the transport was awful. Tulum and turtle sno[... read more]rkeling was over run with tourists. Very tacky.
The room was amazing, the grounds beautiful and well kept. The staff are always friendly and go above and beyond. I had sore muscles after a long flight, so booked a massage at the spa. Maria easily found the knots and gently but firmly worked them out, always ensuring my comfort.
Regardless of where we ate, the food was amazing! Patricia made us feel very welcome at the evening buffet, like coming home and the outdoor patio was the perfect setting for dinner. Staff at Katok were professi[... read more]onal and the food was amazing. Edlizar and Jesus made us feel like family.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great resort
This was our first time going to Mexico and will be definitely returning. Ocean riviera paradise was absolutely amazing.
We stayed at El Beso section we had a swim up room. The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. The king size bed was so comfy.
The service through out the resort was excellent especially Nelly at the swim up bar. David the gentle man that drove the shuttle made us laugh everday every time he drove by. Miguel was also amazing and friendly.
The food was spot on the buffe[... read more]t had a great selection and was very good. The Sakura restaurant was entertaining and very good. The Blue Moon was amazing. The steakhouse was ok. We never made it to the Italian. Mike's was good as well was there every morning to get a capaccino.
The monkeys were beyond entertaining and the coati's were very interesting creatures.
We will be returning to ocean riviera paradise on our next vacation

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: I will be returning
My second stay at the Bahai Principe and it will remain as one of my favorites. Akumal is the luxury and beach side area of the 4 Bahai Principe resorts located together. Im going to rate this and the other Bahai areas very high, as we visited all but the Adult resort on our recent trip. I have previously stayed at the adult Sian Kaan area and it is beautiful and quiet, you have to shuttle to the beach from there.
First Akumal, we were fortunate to stay in one of the recently renovated modern[... read more] units and they are comfortable, a good size and the AC is perfect. There are first floor swim out units with a small semi private pool, may explore these units for our next visit. A good choice if you prefer quiet, not necessary if you plan to be in the action at the pool or beach. Did hear the older units are a bit dated and the AC less powerful. Akumal has an adult area away from the main pools, that has a beautiful infinity pool, adult restaurant KATOK and a private beach access. If you want quiet, request a room in this area, there are shuttles to take you to the lobby.
As for the main pool areas (separate from the adult area) , there are three areas to choose from. The main action area near the lobby, pool with the swim up bar, and a third quieter area with limited bar service. We spent most of our time at the first two where there is music, bar service to your seat, easy beach access. The pools are weave around the area and have seating and lounging options in the water. There is plenty of seats around the pool area, no need to save a spot. Shaded spots are a bit more limited at the pools but abundant at the beach. The beach is busy and seems to be where most people tend to hang out. there is bar service, some activities and a lot of chairs/umbrellas available.
COBA is the kids area but really nice and still caters to the adults. We didn't spend much time here outside of restaurants but it is a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Nice sports bar and wide open nighttime area. Pool looks great for young kids.
TULUM is a bit further from Akumal but there are shuttles available, not too far if you walk along the beach. TULUM is huge, and renovated. The pools are very large and open, it is louder then AKUMAL. TULUM is a beautiful looking resort. Has beach access but much smaller then AKUMALs beach area. If traveling with just adults I would choose Sian Kaan. With older teens really tough choice between Akumal or Tulum (no bad choice here). Maybe Akumal if I was going to access an adult only area or prefer beach over pool, otherwise Tulum if I want pools more then beach. Coba or Tulum with kids. Coba is budget friendly.
Now the best part. The food. Prebook your a la cartes using the Bahai App a week ahead of time. There is an amazing selection of restaurants some focusing on great food and other on an experience. You will not be disappointed. If you are staying at Akumal, Sian Kaan, and I think Tulum, you can book at any of the restaurants on any resort. Some are adult only. The Coba restaurants definitely have a kid focus on menu items but the Mikado experience with the cook top is worth it. I also recommended the Brazilian Steakhouse and Tequila at Tulum for a bit of an experience while dining. All the restaurants at Akumal and Sian Kaan are excellent. You will have a tough time deciding which restaurants to book.
Great selection at the breakfast and lunch buffets at all locations, again the COBA features a few more kid friendly options.
The only bad thing, is the drive out from the airport. It is a long way and traffic can be an issue. If you are using the transfer bus then you may have stops along the way and you will be the last stop of the journey. My daughters review was, that is a long drive but totally worth it for this resort.

Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa: Amazing Resort
We loved this resort, everything was amazing, room, service, food etc. The rooms had the most amazing showers.
My only complaint was if it's really windy the sand on the beach blows around so you can't lay there.

Paradisus La Perla Adults Only Riviera Maya: Beautiful resort
Beautiful resort. Service was up and down. Some servers were great others not so much.
The biggest downfall were the dinners. The food at most of the restaurants was not great and not as good as other resorts that we have been to in the area. Fuego was by far the best restaurant but still a bit hit and miss. The menus sound good but the execution is surprisingly bad.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Great Resort
This was our second trip to this resort. We were impressed during our visit a year ago and decided to return. The food was very good. The service was very good in all of the restaurants and bars. Isobel the pool server was wonderful, bringing drinks to the swim up rooms. Also the room services was very convenient.
Our room was very clean and well stocked most of the time. We had a swim up room and there was one day that we did not receive pool towels despite a call and a visit to the concier[... read more]ge desk. There were a couple of maintenance issues that were promptly dealt with and followed up with a call from the concierge desk to ensure everything was satisfactory.
One disappointment was a lack of recognition for return guests. Also, during our visit last year there was a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine delivered to the room. However, they are no longer doing this.
Overall, we were very satisfied and would return.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing place
The hotel was cleaned at all times. Very friendly staff. Very good food and variety of options. Glad that we went there. Had a great time.we had adults only beach area which was great for us. The pool we didn’t use because of a lot of sunscreen in the water even they cleaned it every night. We will go again there for sure.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Amazing.resort
Had a terrific time and would go back in a heartbeat. Everything is so manicured and super clean. Staff were perfect and treated us like royalty. Carlos Chance(?) was manning the poolside bar and beach bar, always ready with a cold beer, of course with the amazing Loreena helping him out. Claudia at the buffet.. could go on, but appreciated everyone. Super relaxing and fun. Amazing entertainment every night.

Riu Tequila: loved the tequila hotel!
We have stayed here 5 times and thoroughly enjoy all the trees and bushes and spaciousness of the grounds.
I do think there is too much food waste though. For instance the steak house- the portion I got was enormous and I could only eat 1/3 as it was way too much meat. I would suggest to advertise 2 sizes- small and large. Also there is no. need to have the buns as an appetizer when we have another appetizer.
Also place more signage reminding people to not waste and not to take more than the[... read more]y will eat- as it gets reflected in the hotel price.
Also too many people stop to feed the animals roaming- better signage here also needed to not do so and enforce with staff discouraging it.
We will stay again as absolutely it is the best hotel we have stayed anywhere
thanks

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Resort for Adults only- areas for peace & quiet or
Cons- currently construction 24/7 - could not sleep! Some nights like hammering through rock! Not as Stated in brochures:No international top shelf liquors (unless paying a stipend). Did not replenish mini fridges daily.
No bubbles in cheap Prosecco. Orange juice was real juice at all- this made for yucky breakfast mimosas.
No heat in rooms when outside temps got down to 15 overnight- so did the room. Requested Blankets were never delivered. I know real hardship.
Just being honest as oth[... read more]er 5 *properties step up on these issues.
Staff is excellent. Food is very good. Pools are shallow but a good variety. Lots of shade and sun options. Good daily activities & nightly entertainment. Ocean/ beach red flagged most days. Like the option to visit other Bahia Principe properties during stay by golf cart. Rooms dated but AC is not too disruptive while sleeping. Fridge keeps things nice & cold. Main thing right? On arrival Long HOT wait for bus before leaving airport. 2 long hours to get to resort from airport.
The grounds are spectacular and mature. The beach walking south is exceptional x2 hours a few patches of rocks all the way to Maroma Beach. . The food was very good. The service was very good but the ice cream wasn’t good. The fruit and vegetables, baked goods and deserts were great!
The rooms are fresh and up to date. Lots of fun activities for families with children. Only 30 mins from the airport.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: Great Resort
The hotel needs to enforce its policy of not allowing people to reserve seating with towels or personal belongings...most mornings by 9am, all seats had towels. Also, as the resort said 100% no smoking, this was something that was also not enforced by the staff. Otherwise great place to stay, clean rooms, lots of choice for food and all tasted amazing.
