Barcelo Maya Colonial: Not Suitable for All

This resort is suitable to families and young adults. It is not suitable for those who want a quiet holiday. The pools were full of kids and the beach full of loud drinkers. We were awaken almost every night when the discotheque closed at 2am with loud ruckus. This is a huge resort with lots of amenities. Excellent fitness centre with a huge variety of exercise equipment and fitness classes (yoga, zumba, spinning). The staff were friendly and helpful. The manager was not! Did not take [... read more] our complaint about noise (each night yelling and screaming until 5 am) seriously. We won't return!!!

Occidental Tucancun: Good time !

Awesome beach! Good food! Amazing staff! So much to do in the area. The sunset is amazing to watch. The Mexican restaurant was delicious. There is lots of activities during the day, night life only has bars.

Barcelo Solymar: Great depending on your expectations

Resort was well kept. Staff were friendly. Our room was run down but kept clean. Ceilings were leaking from the AC units. Beaches were beautiful. The food is what you would expect in Cuba. Would go back if the price was right. Nothing I wasn't expecting.

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing resort!

The resort complex and all its amenities were excellent. Family friendly. Food at the buffets was good and with lots of variety. The special dining restaurants were easy to get into and the food/service at them great. The resort was spotless. Attention to detail on the grounds and overall cleanliness of all areas was amazing. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Pools and beaches excellent. A great resort that we look forward to visiting again.

Occidental Nuevo Vallarta: Wasn't happy.

Amazing beach, understaffed, small rooms, public bathrooms extremely small stalls, beach & poolside activities fairly good.Juan was awesome for activities.had to pay for wifi. Asked to speak to the manager & was given excuse after excuse why I couldn't. Would not recommend or return to this hotel.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Great resort

This was our 5th time here to this specific resort. We are always pleased with everything as there is something for everyone. We stay in the junior suites usually building 2 or 3 which we like as they are close to everything. The rooms are clean always fresh towels hot water and stocked fridge. The food at the buffet gets a bit repetative but we enjoyed the a la carts much better. This is definitely a go to resort for us!

Barcelo Maya Grand Resort: Amazing family resort!

The Barcelo was an excellent family resort!! Our kids had a blast in the water parks and at the kids club- this was the first resort we’ve gone to, where parents were able to relax too! The food was excellent, and the resort was very clean. I would highly recommend this resort to any families looking for an amazing vacation!

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Great time

The hotel grounds were beautifully kept. Beaches were wonderful, the Beach Activity service was great it was wonderful dealing with Gabriella The food was good lots of variety. The Santa Fe restaurant steakhouse was not up to Snuff The people at the front desk were excellent. Can't say as much for the concierges and head of house keeping that looked after our section it only took us five days to get an iron in our room. Occidental Costa Cancun: Nice 4-star family oriented resort

The resort was nice - very clean, and the grounds were lovely. The staff were always friendly, and the buffet food was good with fresh salads, fruit, breads and various meat dishes served daily. I would have liked more Mexican food at the buffet, such as - nachos, salsa and guacamole, but I only had that once in the Mexican restaurant. They served nachos sometimes at the buffet, but no salsa or guacamole. We tried each of the 3 restaurants, and really enjoyed the seafood one the best. The swimming area was okay, but it was located right next to where all the large tourist boats were coming and going, and that combined with the noise/smell of seadoos and other watercraft made it a bit too busy for us. We would have preferred a quieter beach. We enjoyed the shows they put on every night from 9-10 p.m., and also the piano entertainment in the hotel lobby. I've always loved the frozen margaritas in Mexico, but this time it was hit 'n miss - the best ones I had were at the beach bar and seafood restaurant. I gave up after a few bad drinks and just had the white wine which was pretty good. All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay, but will not return to this particular hotel because the beach area was too noisy.

Occidental Papagayo: resort ok, Costa Rica beautiful weather, Sky zip lining awesome

-grounds well kept -not a nice beach -not enough help in the restaurants with minimal food options (very little variety) -disappointed with room accommodations, booked in September for a late Jan visit, asked for 2 beds in the room, showed up there with a king size bed (only 10 rooms at this resort have 2 beds/room however this was never shared with our group) -ended up having to sleep on a cot for the week, not impressed should have a smoking section at the 2 pool areas (at the back away f [... read more]rom the non-smoking guests) I would not go back to this resort, I would not recommend others to go

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Nice resort

Very good resort. We liked the most walking on the long beach as well as within the resort. We stayed at the Maya Caribie. It is good but i wouldnt rate it as a 5 star. It is no more than a 4 star. it seemed to be an older resort. The bathroom was partially renovated which was nice. However, every thing else was ready to be updated to deserve a 5 star rating. It woulve been nice if: 1. The air condition can be adjusted from the room. The thermostat seemed not to work no matter on what degree [... read more] of temperature you would put it on, it would give a temperature that I would estimate to be 21-22C. That was a little chilli for us. So we opened the balcony door. We woke up with mesquitos bitting us in the middle of the night. Llet alone the noise coming from people retuning from the bars. It turned out the screen on the door was torn letting mesquitos in. 2. There were lots of food everywhere. Most of the people on the resort were from Canada and the USA. However, they didnt pay attention to the fact that Canada is multicultural and that there would be those who do not eat pork (example: Jews and muslims). Most of the meat dishes were pork or contained pork (e.g. beef and pork, chicken and and pork fahitas). There were some beef burgers and chicken at the snack bars. However the 4 coupons they gave us for the ala cart resturants were very good for dinner. 3. Sunwing airlines is terrible. I will never use them again.

Palma Real: 4th time to that resort no problems

I havent anything bad to say. Everything was OK to Great for me . The grounds were well kept The pools were clean. The beach is great . Didnt have to wait at the bars for drinks. I found all the staff at the resort friendly .

Palma Real: amazing

Perfect for us. Great location , staff is helpful. Food is great - we recommend this hotel to others - this is our second time at this hotel - the best building is number 3 - it is close to the pools - buffet ' main lobby

Occidental Costa Cancun: Small jewel!

Spent one week (Jan 31/19-Feb 7/19) at the Occidental Costa Cancun. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable rooms, good food (great variety), beautiful grounds and awesome Activity crew. There is something for all ages.

Barcelo Ixtapa: A resort with a mixed bag of excellent to disappointing

The internal structure of this hotel is very dated and needing both a design and repair overhaul. The bathroom especially was unbelievable. A large person would have to walk into the shower in order to close the door on the toilet/shower. Tiles were broken, cracked, grouting dirty and also broken. First impression of the room was "yuk" BUT the outdoor areas were beautiful and the location perfect. It is a resort that obviously caters more to the Mexicans and as such was interesting to stay in [... read more]. As several staff told us, it was originally a Sheraton and in those days was much classier! Built in 1983, it would appear that little has been done to the interior. Of 4 elevators, only 2 were working for the two weeks we were there though there was constant repair work going on on the out of action elevators. The working elevators screeched alarmingly at times! Food was good in two of the three specialty restaurants and average in the buffet. Disappointing that the Japanese restaurant did not cook the food at your table and the noise level in it was very loud. Staff were always pleasant and tried to be helpful but struggled with English ...but then we didn't speak Spanish. The beach was fabulous and certainly we were at the best place to go in the ocean. Would highly recommend that aspect. Despite our disappointment with the hotel interior, we might go back simply because the location is so perfect and we think we can rise above the poor room conditions.

Barcelo Huatulco: NOT "All Inclusive" Unless Upgraded to PREMIUM

Our Barcelo Huatulco experience was disappointing. While this Barcelo is nice it lacks the Barcelo branding we are familiar with. Here are a few examples: 1. Booking All-Inclusive at this destination doesn't really mean "all-inclusive." To really experience "all-inclusive" at this Barcelo means one must upgrade to "PREMIUM." The cost to upgrade to "Premium" is $35.00 US per person per day so $70 per day for a couple times seven days equals $490 US, converted to Canadian dollars roughly $650 [... read more]. For this extra $650 we could have had a King bed in an Oceanview room, premium drinks in our room refrigerator, premium drinks at the bars and wine at dinner. It was disappointing to learn the extra costs for wine at dinner, and that the Corona beer at the bars are reserved for "Premium" guests! 2. You have to stand in line EVERY DAY to book the ala carte restaurants. We were only able to get two ala carte bookings because most of the premium supper times are taken by the "Premium" clients. This means that out of the 18 meals we had at this Barcelo, 16 of them would have to be at the buffets, which gets old after 2/3 days. Booking the ala cartes starts at 9:00 am in the morning and several days we were there at 9:00 am, stood in line for 30-40 minutes and couldn't get a dinner reservation before 8:30/9:00 p.m. 3. The food facilities are only surfaced cleaned. The serving spoons in the buffets are not changed often enough. The sides of the tables feel grimy to the touch, as do the arms on the chairs -- seems these surfaces do not get washed which is very unsanitary (take your own disinfectant wipes!). The Barcelo Huatulco was rated 4.5 Stars. Our ratings: facility 4; systems/processes 2; and buffets 3. While the ala cartes were nice (Italian and Mexican) having to pay extra for wine at an all-inclusive isn't the norm.

Barcelo Huatulco: Sun always shines

Another great time. Sun always shines here. Stunning views from our room to the great food. Premium alcohol. Beautiful beach, terrific snorkeling. recommendations when families book please try and keep families together as it took us two days to resolve this problem. Second tip would be to heat the main dishes at the Italian restaurant properly. Food overall was great their main course needed to be heated thoroughly. Love the Japanese restaurant and seafood

Barcelo Bavaro Beach: We were very pleased with the resort.

The amenities were great. While the rooms are obviously not new, they were well maintained. The only problems we encountered was with the bath tubs that we found to be difficult to get in and out of especially for my husband who has leg problems. Walk-in shower equipped rooms would be at great asset for disabled people. The food was always fresh and beautifully presented. The best part of this facility is it's staff. Allegro Cozumel: Understaffed and not a quality resort

We travelled with our family - 8 in total. Our room was closest to the disco. Understaffed at the restaurants; no refills of drinks. Ice cream and coffee machine always broken. Pools were cold. Staff at front desk made no extra effort. Couldn’t get into a la carte restaurants. Buffet was so full one night we had to wait 30 minutes. This was supposed to be a special vacation and I’m disappointed all the money we spent to have a week like we did :(

Occidental Papagayo: a disappointment

The grounds were beautiful and the howler monkeys, iguanas, raccoons and skunk entertaining. But................6 single women travelling together would like the option of 2 queen beds per room vs 1 king and adding a single cot to each room just does not cut it for the price we paid for the trip. The compensation for this inconvenience was an extra a la carte meal that we had to practically beg for to get a reservation only to find the restaurant half empty when we arrived.
