Valentin Perla Blanca: Not bad for the price

The hotels food wasn’t very good and it was always cold, they had lots of shortages which was strange as when we went out to the markets they would have the food and beer the resort clamied was in shortage. I have been to better 5 star resorts. It was pretty run down looking, it seemed more like a 3 star we went in a group of 12 and some of them have been there before and said it’s gone down hill since the first year they went. I mean there were a lot of nice people too but a lot of unhappy people there. Probably wouldn’t go back, but it was a cheap price so you get what you pay for.

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Fantastic!

My week here was amazing! I don’t have one complaint; from the kind staff team, the cleanliness of the room, to the delicious food, and especially beautiful beach, I would definitely recommend this resort. I will be back!

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Amazing Time!

My fiancé and I stayed at this resort from March 28-April 4th, 2019. We flew with Air Transat. Our flight was good! Then we got onto the 2 hour bus ride which the host made fun and thank goodness for the Crystal Beer! Once we arrived check in was very fast and the lady was very friendly and accommodating! Food was actually the best I’ve had in all of Cuba, we ate at the buffet for most breakfasts and dinners and the pool snack bar and beach snack bar for lunch. We loved the grilled chicken and rice they had at the beach. Those ladies work hard behind that grill! Snack bar lunches were good! We mostly had chicken legs, chicken salad, or hamburgers. We had 2 a la carted, Italian was absolutely delicious! Origami (Japanese) was alright! Suppers at the buffet were good if you got the food made infront of you, and depending on the time you went you may have had to wait in a long line. Totally worth the wait though. We stuck to the pastas and rice, so delicious. I also enjoyed how they sat you at meals so you didn’t have to search for tables. Some nights had entertainment in the buffet, the music in Cuba surpasses any music here in Canada, so talented! There was always music playing after supper in the lobby bar! Everyone was dancing and having a good time. The lobby bar was quite the happening place at night time! The one bartender Ernesto we loved! Always took the time to say hello to us and give us a hug! The entertainment was also amazing, those dancers work hard and you could tell! We made it to almost all the shows! Our favourite was the Disney show and the interactive men vs women show. The pool was beautiful and clean, just the right temp. Pool bar had great drinks! Beach was an absolute dream! We had amazing weather, only a few windy days which made for fun waves! Amazing blue waters. We did the hoby cat twice, we loved it!! The Cubans really do love what they do! Grounds are kept beautifully! We did the catamaran excursion on Sunday! Such a fun time! Worth the money! You get to snorkel, go to a beach, and see dolphins with lunch! Overall it was a great trip! Would recommend this resort to my friends and family!!

Valentin Perla Blanca: Fairly good

Food was fairly good ! Housekeeping very poor- had to keep the same beach towel for the week and they kept giving only one bath towel for two people! Also a big shortage on toilet paper I was not impressed! Also our sliding door was broken it would not lock and was not repaired until into the fourth day after complaining a couple of times!!!

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Beautifully landscaped resort

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The beach is pretty good. Our room was spacious and clean. However, the air conditioning didn't work very well and we woke up to a flood in our room the first morning of our stay. The pipes behind the bidet burst. It's a good thing that our luggage and other belongings had not been left on the floor. Nobody was in a hurry to come shut the water off as it ran into the adjoining room, the room below us and down the stairs. Both the food and service at the buffet and two of the a la carte restaurants ( Internacional and TexMex) were TERRIBLE: no variety and poor quality. The Ranchon and snack bar by the pool were much better.

Gran Muthu Cayo Santa Maria: Another Great Stay!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Golden Tulip for the second time now and LOVED it once again. The staff is awesome, the beach is amazing, the pools, yeah they are missing some tiles BIG DEAL.. this isn't a 5 star resort in Belize people! If they closed the pool to fix the tiles then people would complain the pool was closed.. lose lose situation here I read reviews about no towels, no plates, no french fries, no bread etc.. I have never had any issues with getting any of them. The food is m [... read more]ediocre, you're only there for a week and if you need to stuff your face with all of your normal favorites then stay home.. the only complaint I had was it could have been warmer. Free wifi for 7 hours, which is awesome.. I had a cracked toilet seat when we got to our room, so I went to the front desk and told them.. by the time we got back from the pool it was fixed less than 2 hours later. Night life is typical of Cuba.. loud and energetic.. When we were at the pool bar my boyfriend asked if he could have some Canadian Whiskey, and the bartender gladly went to the lobby bar to get a bottle and kept it there for the week for him. Sunset Catamaran was amazing , we did that for my birthday and the Lobster dinner was out of this world. My only real complaint worth mentioning is the rude French Canadians and the Europeans that need to travel in groups of 10 plus.. not saying all of them, but there were more than I could count on one hand that thought they were entitled to more than the rest of us. They would hog the food and had no manners whatsoever. One lady thought it would be ok to move our drinks and belongings to another table in the buffet so she and her 5 kids could sit at our table.. I came out and told her she could move or I would do it for her. Overall, I would go back here in a heartbeat..LOVE this resort, location and next time I will make sure I know some swear words in French before going :)

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Outstanding resort

This resort was great the bed was comfortable. Good air condition was quiet had a few small issues that were taken care of quickly. It is a small resort quiet no problem in getting chairs at the pool or the beach. The entertainment was fantastic. The beach was amazing. The drinks were amazing best pina colda and chocolate martini ever. You don’t go to Cuba for the food it is the beaches I would rate the food as the best I’ve had in Cuba but still nothing to rave about, except the Casadias(?? [... read more]) on the beach were great.

Playa Luxury Cayo Las Brujas: The staff were warm and friendly.

Grounds were well maintained. Staff training was lacking but it’s a new resort. Cooks were rotated almost every day and lacked expertise in cooking. Some dishes seemed odd in their makeup and presentation.Servers were awkward in handling dishes on the table. Mostly from being new to the job.Seafood restaurant was very good. Excellent grill at lunch with all types of barbecue meats. Very little Cuban type food in the offerings which is odd for a Cuban resort. Overall a nice compact quiet resort [... read more] with great beaches and a wonderful staff. Food needs to be sorted out but it’s more of learning curve than a quality issue.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Good resort, great beach

the resort is old and not well maintained service is a little slow staff is amazing and friendly but still service was slow internet is good but only available in the lobby (we stayed at Sanctuary) Pools are great, gardens are great, beach is great rooms don't get cleaned properly, towels, sheets, bath ropes are not clean. food quantity is great but food quality is average for Cuba.

the grounds were lovely and well maintained, beach was beautiful, people very friendly but when it came to getting service for things like changing rooms booze in room what was part of the package they kept making excuses and never followed through. we were suppose to have a bus boy or porter on our floor to book excursions, and alacartes. our porter had to be continually chased down and we often had to book with our friends porter on the floor above us, the pool was lovely. entertainment great. [... read more] food was satisfactory.

We were nicely surprised that her room was must free and Modern. Many choices for restaurants were available to us. Food was ok no hand stands ...... except for cheeze selection at every meal and their fresh breads.......best night on buffet was Cuban night. Valentin Perla Blanca: Ok resort

The resort was ok, the staff were not overly friendly and we have been to Cuba in the past where they were lovely. The grounds were ok but the resort itself needed some maintenance. The food was as usual blan but we didn’t go hungry on our stay. The beach was beautiful and was the best part of this resort. I wouldn’t go back but it wasn’t a bad trip.

The Starfish was a beautiful, although older hotel. The grounds have mature plants, public areas clean and great pools. Music at the pool was a little loud for us old fogies but the lobby entertainment was really well done. The staff are the most friendly people. Love the Cuban people. We had an ocean view room that was great, clean, lots of hot water and pressure. The real disappointment was the food. Since we were to be there for 10 days we decided to make a hotel change so on day 5 we switched to Melia Cayo Santa Maria for the last 5. We were at the Melia over 15 years ago. It has undergone a lobby transformation which is very updated. Our room was a little tired but nothing to complain about. As usually the staff was great. Food... lots of variety, the beach grill is outstanding (try the grilled fish inside) but the a la carte's where outstanding. We did Mediterranean and Japanese. Of course you can't beat their beaches. 5 star for sure. Melia is a little deeper than the Starfish. Did the full day Catamaran trip. Great time. Lots of snorkeling, dolphins interaction and show and lobster lunch. Will we go back to Cuba... absolutely. Oh, and the Sunwing reps were excellent.

The mature grounds are lovely, our oceanview room was perfect. Easy to navigate around. The entertainment in the lobby after dinner was very good. Of course the Cuban workers are always very pleasant and eager to serve.

Melia Las Dunas: A Relaxing Vacation

First of all we have been to Cuba 6 times - Varadero, Holguin, and Cayo Coco so we had reasonable expectations of what to expect for food and accomodations. WIth that being said this is one of the best we have stayed in. Did we have minor inconveniences? Yes. Did it ruin our holiday? Absolutely not. If you go in to your vacation expecting to relax, take things as they come, enjoy what they do have rather than focusing on what they dont, you will have a wonderful time. No activities by this pool scheduled which was fine for us as we were there to relax and enjoy. The Good: check in was fast. Our room was clean and nice. Our fridge was well stocked with water (ask for extra and they will give you - tipping helps), beer and pop daily. The grounds are stunning and well groomed. The gardeners work hard to maintain this beautiful resort. The beach was nice. Staff were very friendly. Food was good and flavourful but repetitive. We enjoyed our a la carte restaurants (Cuban, Italian and Oriental) and had no issues getting reservations for both 630 and 730pm. For the most part, chairs at the pool and beach were easy to get. The ice cream parlour was a wonderful treat. The beer garden was a lovely shady spot to relax and enjoy a bottle of Cristal. Money exchange at the front desk was nice vs waiting at the bank and you did not need your passport to exchange money at the front desk. No issues getting single pesos. Note: exchange rate when we were there was $20 canadian got you $13.20 CUC. Lots of activity in the lobby in the evening. Pool was well kept and clean. The layout of the resort was well thought out. It is large but manageable. The market attached to the resort was nice to walk to. The double decker bus ($2 CUC/person each time you get on the bus) or the train (free) that picks you up in front of the resort and goes to Plaza Las Dunas and Plaza Estrella was fun to buy souveniers. Areas for improvement: The resort is very dark at night - some walkways/buildings were lit at night and others not and then the next night it seemed the areas illuminated were different. We suggest bringing a flashlight. Our key didn't work to our room twice but a technician was sent very quickly and fixed the problem. Our bath towels were only changed twice in the week and we tipped daily. Wondering if this has to do with the laundry issue they also experience with the pool towels? Wasn't a big deal, we just hung them up after using to dry out before our next shower. Some rude travellors (not the hotel's fault) hoarding food, littering, yelling at other tourists about pool chairs, some noted to be rude to staff. Service at the snack bar was hit or miss. Some days food options at beer garden and snack bars were limited, We did not enjoy the imported beers (preferred Cristal when they had it). Overall we loved the resort, the staff, the beach and the numerous food and snack options. Planning our trip back in December already.

Beaches were beautiful, would recommend the adult spa section rooms, very spacious, private and clean. Overall my sister and I had an amazing time to relax. I would suggest more entertainment with variety though...

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Good.. for the first few days

My two girlfriends and I just returned from a 7 day vacation to grand memories. We went without toilet paper(used baby wipes) and water bottles for about 3 days. The only way we were able to get a bottle of water was because I had to BUY it at the gift shop. The food is decent but you're basically dreaming of something that has taste or flavour. The only thing that saved this resort from getting a 1 star was the beach. Staff were greedy and expected tips constantly. Staff also harassed my friend [... read more]s and I as we are young girls. Service was below satisfactory Bugs in the beds, walls, ceiling Water was not always replenished in the rooms had to pay the cleaning staff to clean rooms properly or else they wouldn't shampoo and body wash was not always replenished daily front desk was caught sleeping on two occasions after midnight Calling room service after hours was impossible Buffet was the best and A la Cart was barely satisfactory while I vomited twice This place at best is a 4star

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Great first time vacation in Cuba

This is a great resort with awesome people and beaches. A lot of marine life to observe by snorkling right from the shore. The rooms and facilities (pool, lobby, restaurants) are perfect for families with just enough entertaiment and quietness. The food is alright as long as you don't expect eating fancy. I would recommend this resort to anyone who wants to relax and who does not seek night life and visits outside the resort. Overall, this is a really great value.
